Friend just completed Ironman run in Germany, last week.
Asked her what if she needed to pee?

Answer: Pee'd, and poured water on herself.
Was a 10 hour nonstop for her. Said there were port a potties, but she chooses not to stop.

She came in first women's USA and 6th international.

I've always wondered what racecar drivers do during those long races if they have to pee. Do they wear 'depends' or can they take a quick leak in a bottle during pit stops? I'm sure the correct answer is that they don't drink much before races and hold it if need be but, sometimes it just happens! LOL

Moonie I think race cars drivers do have to drink water in the pits to rehydrate. The inside of the car gets HOT and they sweat most of their fluids out. They have mini cooling systems connected to helmets and seats but no real air conditioning. So having to pee is not usually an issue.

Moonie I have the answer for you. I heard a talk by a professional race car driver at our high school automotive academy's Meet the Professionals Night. They wear some kind of apparatus that fits over themselves and carries the urine down a surgical tube that runs down their pant leg. The tube extends past their shoe a few inches. They just pee when they have to go, and the tube releases the urine onto the floor of the car.

The speaker told of a new racer meeting up with a playful cat. He said that until you get into the car, you poke the end of the tubing into your shoe. One beginner did not know to do that and was walking around the area before the race with the tube dragging on the ground. A cat that lived at the track spotted the tubing and was chasing it as he walked along.

Can you imagine how those cars must stink inside?????

Did you ever drive a school busload of univ. kids to an out-of-town bar for an evening's fun?

Not bad outbound ... but after return, drive the front wheels of the bus up on blocks, open the rear door ...

... and get busy with the hose! To flush out the puke!

With regard to the original question ...

... it wouldn't be much help to suggest to them that they follow the directions for coughing (sneezing?) in the new rules rgarding the H5N1 flu bug problem ...

... to cough/sneeze into one's elbow, rather than the hand, to avoid dispersing the germs via one's hand to doorknobs, etc.

They dehydrate so fast it just evaporates.

No longer than the Indianapolis 500 lasts, I would think they could hold it that long! I can hold it for a good long time!

Now you know why the crew drenches NASCAR drivers (especially the winner) as soon as they get out of the car (LOL).

OK, Now this is gross but I think I heard where the astronauts were doing a new kind of lab test that would be turning urine into drinking water....I think I'll pass on that next moon flight, thank you!

I actually read just today about sneezing in a space suit. The person said you have to aim very carefully if you sneeze because if you don't it messes up the view.

Marilyn, the race car driver was explaining how they took care of necessities in endurance races of hours long duration.

Don't any of you know of over the road truckers? You think they take restroom breaks? Hardly. Just get out the trucker's companion. Any why would it stink? People have used colostomy bags without being called smelly. Gross to think about but it's a handicap that some have. And the trucker's friend is far better than people messing themselves while running and I'd venture a guess that it's far more sanitary than most public restrooms. But the question is whether they washed their hands afterward!

Public urination is illegal in most places, so runners should be arrested no differently than someone behind a dumpster IMO. Course, admittedly I have a problem with a lot of runners and joggers thinking they own the road and everyone should stop and make room for them thinking they don't have to observe the stop signs and the like.

Don't worry too much about proposals to recycle urine in space ships.

Something about 50 years ago when I lived in New York State for a while, I think was when I heard it, they said that the water that comes out of the tap in NYC is on about its dozenth cycle: quite a few towns and cities along the Hudson!

Water in many parts of the world gets used several times, in sequence. Have you ever asked the people in your water utility how many times that they estimate that the water that comes into their intake pipe has been used, earlier?

Sort of reminds me of my story on here a few years ago about, as I called it, "recycling" of toilet paper, but it was really reusing, as no processing was involved in the interim.

Not on KT, as the 67 pages last less than 3 months, but over on "Money Saving Tips": their 27 pages or so go back to about the time of Noah. Brought back a few times, several said that it gave them their laugh for the day.

One of the best medicines around: laughter! Great stress-reliever, too!
