Why do they have to shoot those dang fireworks off?

It's not the 4th anymore, they need to have a law that you can only shoot those stupid things off one night! Luckily I don't have to work tomorrow but I have other times. No one wants to be kept up all night by these idiots! Poor Luther just crawled under my desk here. I gave him some of the medication I got at the vet last week but I guess it hasn't kicked in yet. I've used all ten pills the vet gave me in the past week! I'll have to go get more tomorrow. Stupid inconsiderate people.

Our neighbors celebrated the 4th last night with huge loud fireworks...lit up our whole yard and house...and they were still going strong past 11 pm. Denny had to get up at 5:30 to open the park.

In the 10 years they have done this many times. One year Denny went over and said something to them. it was in the middle of the week when everyone in the neighborhood had to get up and go to work the next day.

nod702 - you make it too difficult i find a mower sitting at the curb few times\summer. I also know a repair place where in the back lot he has all kinds of motors- old cub cadet riders (too bad they have been stripped for many parts) to recent push mowers & tillers @ $20 and $10 respectively. also i know another deere dealer that has a long row of riders of non deere riders. i asked whats up and if i could buy one for parts and he sold me one for $20. (turns out the last owner tried 'fixing' it and the OHV lifters were misaligned else there was nothing wrong with it) I still have more than 1 mowers\riders\trimmers\etc cuz i sold some of my apt buildings and kept my toys. With the other apt buildings i still have, i rotate them for maintainance\repair.

I thought Pluto was still called Pluto, being the same as it was before, with the change being that now its geneological paperwork indicates a non-planetary status. Wouldn't it be useful to limit re-naming to one change a century? Azzalea, I live in a part of a County that was annexed by a city (oh dear, was it 40 years ago??!!). All the house numbers were changed to confirm to the City's numerology along with some street renaming and changing the post office's city designation. A few years later, the County won a court-battle and retrieved the annexed area, and instead of reverting the house numbers/street names/city to their original designation/s, the county planner let them stay re-named. Approximately 200,000 residents gave a sigh of relief at NOT having to again send in change of address forms to all their magazines, etc. However, 40 years later, those of us who live in one of the 15 zip codes affected are still having to explain that in spite of our address no, we do not live in the City and yes, we are tax-paying County residents.

I dread fireworks too. I adopted my Boxer in early August. He was a stray picked up in mid-July. The shelter had a big influx of dogs right around that time because of all the fireworks scaring pets out of their yards. This dog has not once tried to get out of my fence and the few times I have accidently let go of his leash (don't use the retractable kind with an active dog :) ) he hasn't even noticed he was loose so I know he isn't looking for ways to get loose. Now when its time for fireworks I don't let him out into the yard by himself during the day, and at night I just put him on a leash to take him out. Its a PTA but I don't want to take any chances. My one cat is terrified of fireworks and she will stalk around the house for the next few weeks acting like she's afraid of what might go bang next. Its pitifull and I hate it. So much for a celebration of freedom, its a miserable time in my world.

Don't you dare even think of leaving the table Dottie!!! You are a warm, wonderful and valued person here. I love your posts, and more importantly, "you laugh at my jokes that I post!" Hahaha I lurk at another forum, mostly the recipe site and would *never* think of joining. They snipe at one another constantly. Heaven forbid if someone asks them to re-post a recipe they missed! Here, when one of us here tries another member's recipe and gives it good reviews and others ask for the recipe; it gets posted, either by the member that tried it or another member. On that site, they quickly get told to use the Search button! Anyway, I joined here because of the warm and caring things that get talked about. Also the speed of getting answers to questions! I love that. Time is of the essence, you know! :-) What ticks me off royally, is that a lurker will make a snide response. Someone who doesn't post on a regular basis. It happened to me recently, and of course she didn't read everything that I had to say. Did she post on the birthday, sympathy, good wishes, recipe, picture, opinion threads? Nope just comes in to slam. She's not the only one of course. Some people post just post to be negative, or holier-than-thou. I'm not leaving, as I think this forum the best of any I've seen. Hot Topics scares the beejeebers outta me. I'd love to be able to have a normal discussion about things happening North America without it turning into a battle. So everyone, post away!

Hate to tell you this--but a law wouldn't make a scrap of difference. ALL fireworks (Including sparklers) are illegal in my state, ALL the time--but you'd never know it. People have them and use them at will, all year long. GRRR!!!! Our homes are so very close together, that's so dangerous to be shooting burning bits into the air, to land wherever...

Our county had a fire ban this year as did our small Village. That didn't stop two of our residence. And, one house on the highway shot off the noisy things from 5:30 until 12:00 a.m. It's ridiculous. Nothing like watching your money go up in smoke! We have 3 aerial fireworks shows around town. They have spectacular shows and they are free. I would think that it would be more appealing to let the city buy and shoot them off than to spend good money on them. I hate how many displaced animals they cause. We used to have a dog that was totally inconsolable on the 4th. Broke my heart to watch her salivate and shake with that crazed look in her eyes.

I'm sorry your neighbors are that inconsiderate Kath. Thankfully the 4th was the only day we had to go through it.

I got more drugs for Luther today. Ten pills. I don't know why they only sell ten at a time but that's what they gave me the first time and this time? I didn't ask, was in a hurry. Hopefully last night was the last night, but usually it goes on for a couple weeks.
