I heard from Jude31 today!

A member who hasn't posted in a while, Jude31, wrote to me today.

Jude's husband Bob had a stroke a year ago and also had emphysema. He passed Tuesday.

Jude lives in Kentucky, and her daughter has moved in with her for a while.

She is a kind, generous person and we emailed regularly.
I make a corn casserole that she gave me the recipe for, and I think of her every time I make it.

Jude, so sorry to hear about your difficult year and the passing of your husband Bob. It's wonderful that your daughter is there for you. I hope in time you will come back and join us. Condolences to you and your family. (((Jude)))

It's Susan in SB writing. It's good to hear that Beth and Kate are okay. I read this thread before I went to bed last night, and worried for Beth. The whole fire thing is absolutely crazy when it's so near to you. Our really scary time was last week on Weds, Thurs & Friday. Flames up on our close hillsides, a huge amount of ash (like it's snowing), evacuated neighborhoods a few blocks away. Lots of power outages from Weds through Tuesday. We were packed and ready to go. Saturday & Sunday much better on the fire containment. Now we're good, and I think Beth's fire may have become the state's #1 priority. Fingers crossed for everyone. We came within two blocks of losing our (then) home back in 1990 in the Painted Cave Fire in Santa Barbara. That was way worse in every way. 600 homes burned in 90 minutes, one woman died. But it was like 105 degree temps and 60 mph sundowner winds blowing. Just to use as a comparison. We were very lucky in terms of the weather with this one. I say I'm Susan in Santa Barbara, so people know where I am, b/c no one's ever heard of Goleta, but now an awful lot of people have heard of Goleta! Oh y'all, it has been a wonderful day! Started out with plans to meet Tracy, middle daughter, for lunch, but when I got there my other 2 daughters, one from out of town, were there, as well as my best friend. Total surprise!!! We ate at this really nice little French cafe, downtown, that specializes in crepes. Did a little shopping afterwards at Mast General Store anad another little shop downtown. Had a bunch of phone calls, emails, got cash,(my favorite shade of green), gift cards and some nice gifts. This was not the year for mulch..lol I never dreamed turning eight "0" would be so much fun! Thank you, one and all, for your good wishes. jude P.S. David this little energizing bunny just ran out of "juice". What a wonderful day it has been!

I forgot to mention my birthday dinner. I chose to go have barbecue ribs with Bob. I don't usually do cake so a simple dinner. He has had some serious health issues so glad he felt like going out. Our youngest grandaughter was married this past Sunday, near Nashville...outdoor wedding in 98 degree weather and he had to miss seeing the ceremony. So in ways this was a stressful week but much better now. DD's Tracy and Lu are taking me to lunch today and DS Richard has already planned for midweek, so "the beat goes on". jude

East Tennessee, last I heard??? I've posted your post on the Cooking Forum, where I first met her. I hope that's ok? She's a lovely lady with a lovely family. I wish I could've met Bob. Such love in her voice! and he has kind eyes. Those girls they raised are so wonderful, it took two wonderful people to raise them, so I know he too was as fabulous as she is. (((HUGS!)))
