I work in the yard every day. I had planned to do a lot of work today since we finally got some rain last night, but something came up that was far more important, so I didn't get to it today. I'll be out there first thing in the morning.

Linda, do you just have flowerbeds or do you have a vegetable garden too? I'd love to see pics if you have any. I'm going back and forth between here and the gardenweb side of THS...checking out people's gardens over there.

I got one job done that I really wanted to do - late but done - put my pole beans along strings. Hopefully it's not too late. Too hot today to do much outside.

Mcpeg, that's one thing I didn't plant this year, beans. It's been hot here too, been waiting till after 6 pm to go outside and work.

I just have flower beds. I had thought about planting some vegetables this year, but I had 10 tons of sand deliverd and that took a lot longer than I had anticipated to get it all shoveled, carted around and spread. Also, I have had to do a lot of repair work on my flowers and yard because of the Great Dane dog we have. He trampled a lot of stuff over the winter. Some things came back and some didn't. I made some progress with my flowers, but not as much as I had wanted.

Here are a few pictures. My crape myrtles are in full bloom now, but it's too dark to take a picture of them tonight.

This was taken in May and has filled out much better since then. For next year I want to move the big wagon out some and put a path behind it. This fall I plan to dig the butterfly bush up and move it back closer to the fence.

Those are called Million Bells Kathy. They are annuals, but they are so easy to take care of. They practically take care of themselves.

I am out working in the garden or yard everyday. Today I hoed and raked up lots of weeds between the raised beds and by the fence. And then watered everything. It was another hot one and going get hotter every day this week.

We had an all out assault on weeds in our yard this weekend. Now I feel like I was assaulted! My neck, knees, and lower back are reminding me that I am 50 and need to pace myself.

My husband is outside today in the pouring rain trying to finish up the mulching and trimming. I wished him well and sent him on his way.

I worked outside Friday and Saturday, and then created more work for myself by bringing home a new rose on Saturday. Someone had recommended the Buck rose Prairie Sunrise to me, and I had it on my list (my never-ending rose wish list) for next year. But then I ran across it at a local nursery, and that was that. I'm having trouble finding a spot for it because I hit solid rock in two places I tried to dig.

Yesterday I got up at 4:00 a.m. to accompany my son to a hamfest (ham radio flea market). We got there at 6:00 a.m., and by 11:00 a.m. it felt like bedtime. I slept for nine hours last night! We had a good time, though. We're going to another one next Sunday.

One thing I did this weekend was to replant my pot on the porch. I'm a little concerned because the first planting (New Guinea impatiens) was a definite failure to thrive. I think the soil isn't draining well enough, but I didn't realize that until after I'd planted for the second time. I'll withhold water for a while and see what happens. In the pot are Persian Shield, a blue salvia, and a sweet potato vine.

No, it is to hot and humid today. I can't seem to get in the gardening mood this year. I am keeping the lawn mowed and the hedge trimed, have a few petunias and some decorative sweet potatoes and that is about it. I have an elephant ear bulb that is still in the bag it came in, never did get it planted. I hate when I get like this. Vique.

Kim, it's hard work isn't it? I have to take a hot shower after I work out there just so I can move again!

I went to Wal-Mart again and got some sand and pea gravel for the walkway where the deck used to be and 15 bags of mulch for the backyard. The guy had to put it in the backseat so I get to vacuum the car out after Alex gets it all unloaded. I came "this close" to buying some pavers that looked like cobblestone but didn't. They were only .78 or .87 and I was wondering where they would fit in my car and how long they would last being so cheap.
