My grandniece was born this afternoon, a little over a week past her original due date. Obviously, she felt that today was her day to be born! :-)

My niece was really hoping for a girl -- her husband just wanted a healthy, happy baby! They didn't want to know the gender in advance; they wanted to do it "the old fashioned way" and find out when the doctor announced it in the birthing room.

She's 6 pounds 5 ounces, and 19" long.

I honestly don't even know the exact time of her birth -- they are in Southern California, and we're in Northern California. My sister and brother-in-law are there, and sis called to give me the news as soon as she found out. They'd been in the birthing room during labor, but then my niece asked everyone to leave except her husband. And as it turns out, it's the hospital's policy that NO ONE is even aware of the birth for a minimum of one hour following the blessed event, to give the new parents some "alone time" with their new baby. Yep, they don't even come out and tell the grandparents that the child has been born until that hour passes and the parents say it's ok. I think that is way cool.
