it's a girl!!!

She was born last night at 1:13 AM, 7 pounds 13 ounces (same as Lori was), and 20 1/2 inches long.

Her name is Allison Elodie. I am not sure of the Allison spelling, but the middle name is from a great grand ma on the fathers side.

The males have several different looks in my area. I read somewhere that we have two varieties here, so that may account for some of the differences. Here's a newly emerged male, that is the regular species with the aqua blue hindwings. I love this picture, because of the way the light shone on him - I think this one with green on his hindwings is the subspecies - Some of them have silvery gray hindwings - Like I mentioned, the way the light hits them plays a role in how we see their coloring, but no doubt there are still a lot of true variations also. Cameron, I think I only saw one swallowtail this summer :o(. I don't know what's going on there use to be lots of butterflies around here during the summer. We're almost sitting on top of a four lane highway I'm wondering if it's too many pollutants in the air since they widened the road. How exciting to watch the whole process, lucky you. I've planted fennel and a few other things that might attract more butterflies to my garden hopefully nex year I'll see a few more. Annette

CONGRATS!! I used the wooden sticks last year and at first found the ink labels "run" once the water wicked up the wood. THEN, once in my garden, the sun "cooked" off the ink labels. I also used sharpie on the plastic sticks and also had the sun erase my markings. Since I failed to map my plantings, I had no idea what was what!! Always rewarding to have the little seeds sprout:))

No bike yet, LOL, but a couple of pink outfits.

The time locally was 1:13, but I posted around 11:13 last night, on that other post. All our posts are eastern time, and I am in mountain time right now.

I'll go see, if I can get a picture or two up.
