Wonderful hummingbird photos and videos!!

I ran across this guy's site at DPReview. He shoots a Canon 7D. He wrote:

Some Hummingbirds recently built a nest at a nearby golf course. I had never seen babies before, and because of their location next to the parking lot, they were quite acclimated to human presence and allowed me to "paparazzi 'em" :-)

I haven't looked at the whole site yet, but the opening pic is fabulous. The site apparently it includes a slow-motion video of the father hummer flying in to feed the babies.

It is incredible! Buuuuuuuuuuuut.....that's a female feeding her babies.....:0) Males don't help out with babies. Females have speckles on their throat.

I save nests that they are done using if it is necessary to trim there. I always check first. one of my long time customers had a nest just outside her front door and one of the babies fell out. She called me and I took a nest over and hung it a few inches from the other one and put the baby in. The parents took care of both nests and they did fine. Thanks for the vid.

There's something wrong with my computer... the video won't load properly. I'm sure it's a glitch on my end, so I'll have Larry take a look at it when he has time. When I moved my desk and set up my computer again, I removed the speakers... I couldn't stand all the dings and other noises, especially from the instant messengers! They drove me nuts! I like to enjoy my coffee and surf time in silence! Kristi, you've reminded me that it's way past time to re-pot some of these bulbs and bulb youngsters I have! A few of them must be choking to death in their tiny pots! And yes... all the discussions we've had on soil really made a difference... I was forced to take a deeper look into the how and why of root growth... healthy root growth... and re-think my approach to mediums. I think I've got a good compromise going with the mix I now use. And my persistence paid off... I finally located all the ingredients I need... locally!

Female rubythroat. It would be very rare to have any other kind of hummer in the Mid-Atlantic, although they do show up in very low numbers with some regularity. Female rubythroats lack the male's bright red throat.

It looks like there's only a tiny drop of nectar in each flower so the hummer only stays for less than a second. I wonder if that's because the flowers are past prime now and they usually have more nectar. That's hard work for a little bird - no wonder they appreciate a feeder for supplemental feedingt even though the sugar solution isn't as good as nectar. The bee likes the monarda (AKA bee balm) too. Glad you liked them. The pictures are so big I began to lose sight of exactly how small hummingbirds are.......until that fly showed up for perspective!

Nicole, maybe the photographer, being a man, wanted the father to get credit. LOL

Those are wonderful. I like that he photographed the tree from different views, his camera setup and himself with the hummers. I also have lots of hummers but have never seen a nest.

Kay, I'm sure if you Bookmark that site you'll be able to come back to it over and over. I don't imagine he'll take it down any time soon.

I just showed the pictures to my co-workers, who were enchanted with them.

OMG what incredible pics...I have hummers at my feeder all day long and am mesmerized by these little creatures. Thanks for posting them...
