Eight things you want to do before you die: See my greatgrand kids, travel some, write a book, do a lot more volunteering, spend time with the people and things that mean the most to me, tell my mom what she means to me, live with Twinkie during the very last day and lastly - leave the world a little better place than it was when I got here!

Seven things you believe in: Family, love, God, that the U.S. is the greatest place in the world (in spite of our many problems!), the power of positive thinking, the work ethic and the fact that icecream should be 3 of the 4 food groups.

There are some good things about getting old though. You can say any obnoxious thing and just have someone say well, s/he's just old! The older you get, the less peer pressure there is, by attrition. However, gettin' old ain't all it's cracked up to be. Hardly worth it for that senior cup of coffee at McD's. But then again, you CAN hide your own Easter eggs. You may have had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes be half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make ya dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. have bouts with dementia and poor circulation, hardly feel hands or feet, can't remember if you're 85 or 92 lost all my friends, but hey... still have the driver's license! And of course be careful when you make the same noises as the coffee maker. Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, The good fortune to run into the ones I do, and The eyesight to tell the difference. 'OLD' IS WHEN.. Your sweetie says, 'Let's go upstairs and make love,' and you answer, 'Pick one; I can't do both!' 'OLD' IS WHEN... Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you're barefoot. 'OLD' IS WHEN... A sexy babe catches your fancy and your pacemaker opens the garage door, 'OLD' IS WHEN... Going braless pulls all the wrinkles out of your face. 'OLD' IS WHEN... Well, from personal experience, and for future reference of anyone who needs to know, Sago Palms, which are not actually palms, can also have poisonous-to-dogs walnut-sized seeds that drop. (Is it Sago females or males that drop the seeds? I don't know). But our dog chewed on some at a friend's house, and almost died from it. She was hospitalized with what they estimated was a slim chance of recovery. She did recover, after a harrowing and expensive treatment, but I never fail to mention to dog owners the danger of these plants. I wouldn't plant one where a dog or dogs have access to them. My 2 cents.

I loved and miss my old split-level! Spent many hours dreaming and drawing improvements. But I'd never consider a dining room where it is in your plan. Like Littlebug says, it's in the middle and in the way. In my house, it would always have stuff on it. Looking at it from the opposite viewpoint, the dining room doesn't seem like a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. It seems to have action swirling around it, so when you're dining you've also got your eye on the front door (rushing you out the door?) and it's probably even encroaching on the foyer, or seeing the master closet (makes me think of laundry to do or things to get dressed/ready for or, for guests, someone's private space), and just the feel of people going back and forth. It's like the dining table placed in a hall. But also, your front door points at your closet. A small change would be to move the front door all the way to the left, so that there is a natural walkway from front door to the stairs. The space to the right of the front door could be incorporated into a dining space. Move the master bedroom door, probably reconfigure the master suite anyway a bit, since right now if you need to go from the kitchen to the bathroom, you have to close the bedroom door first. Which side of the house faces the street? In that type of split, I have seen them with different sides facing the street, regardless of where the front door is.

Nope, we were in a coastal town and within a 5 minute drive to the beach. Lots of ocean breeze, but still its hot all year round. Yes, Michigan has humidity and heat too, and yes it can be miserable to be in but it’s not in the 90’s or 100’s year round and we do reap benefits from that humidity like lots of rain (as opposed to droughts). Lawns are lush and healthy, plants and trees alike thrive here. It also never gets so hot that you can fry an egg on the hood of your car. Then there are the thunderstorms. When the humidity peaks, they come in for a quick shower to cool things down. Open the windows and that breeze with it’s smell of the rain is heaven. Say what you will Elmer, but as far as I’m concerned there is really no comparison. I’ll take Michigan’s summer of months of humidity along with it’s snow and ice in the winter over that dry relentless heat any day. I don’t miss it at all. LOL Forgot to add, I’m in one of those suburbs too, about 45 miles north of Detroit. When it comes to snow, it’s the perfect spot because we’re too low for the northern squalls and far enough north to miss the Ohio Valley Blizzards. We usually don’t get more than 6 inches at a time during the season. We live on a hill and the AWD on our SUV’s has no problem driving threw it, but the views are beautiful.
