Tour Of Our Flowers, July 4, 2008

Unless you see 2 flowers together, these are all different flowers in our yard. Dean started at one point and just circled the house. Hope you will enjoy!

You can grow just about any citrus in a container. I have had good luck with Meiwa and Nagami kumquats, limequats, Moro (blood) orange, Valencia, Washington Navel, Satsuma mandarin, calamondin, Meyer's lemon and Eureka lemon. Kumquats are just darn hardy. Not just to winter cold; they seem relatively immune from the insect infestations of various kinds that plague true citrus (kumquats are in the related genus Fortunella). All my containerized citrus and kumquats have experienced winter minimums down to about 38 F. without harm (though for absolute cold hardiness I would suggest the kumquats and Satsuma mandarin). If you need to have a sweet orange, Valencia is supposedly quite cold hardy (but seedy). Difficult to talk about pot size as I don't know what size plant/tree you are interested in purchasing. Personally, I prefer NOT to overpot my trees. I am in a very wet climate zone, so extra soil around the roots might be a problem as I can't control the rain. You climate is a lot drier so you could probably get away with a larger container. All in all though, citrus really seem to do well in containers (excellent drainage). Go luck with your collection. P.S. As you see, they can be highly addictive as well.:) (should would also take longer to dry out).

Graciously appreciate your comments Azucar. Zen/Thai/Egyptian eclectic - you should see the inside with Egyptian and Indian Pictures and artifacts, grasscloth walls, bamboo floors, more buddhas and palm tree fabric on the sofa and pillows, very comfy, laid back............ Laura - you're chillin' me out with that picture....brrrrrr......I need to start my fireplace now to get warmed up..... We have what looks like one last wintry storm pushing dowm from the north, coming in Friday and Sat. with highs only in the 50's and lows in the mid 30's and lots of wind and rain.....I'll cover the little mangos ONE MORE TIME and then THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!! mangofleabag

Thanks, guys. We love the setting. To us even the houses scattered on the small hill are attractive; looks like a village we saw in Switzerland. And it can't be built up like a bird colony over there because of lot restrictions, so it should stay that way. Loralee, we hope 6 wks. You can move in if you like to cook! labradoodlelady: The master bedroom, dining room, living room, kitchen and deck all have this view. Downstairs in the walkout basement the office, rec room, and guest room do. We made a very open floor plan so you really see this from every room in the house except the guest bath, powder room, and the laundry. I'll post some sunset pix when I'm there for a really gorgeous one. Thanks again, all. We're building a small house on a small lot, but to us the view makes up for it.

Sandy, how beautiful. Every flower I saw I thougt to myself " that's my favorite ", but then another one would come along that was so beautiful. I will tell you though that the little surprise about 30 seconds before the end was my absolute favorite.

LOL Ms Jiggs was a little upset that she was being ignored, and you can tell it by her look!!

Thank you for the compliments, Dean really does most of the yard. I will see something that I like, and he will nurture it and it will grow. Unfortunately, there are a few roses that are not in bloom right now.

I tried to open it three tmes before I was able to. The last time I hit the refresh button and it worked. It's well worth the three attempts.

It said done for me too, and I just had a black screen. I figured if there were a lot of pictures, it'd take a while, and it did. I just kept waiting and it opened. Beautiful Sandy & Dean. Cute kitty too.

Your yard is just beautiful. What is the long, tall, white blooming plant? I have never seen anything like it. Hope you will share more pictures of your yard.

Thanks for all the compliments. Yes Rita, everything is blooming together right now....except for some of my roses, between blooms on those.

Ron, that is an Astilbes...I am sure you have seen them, it is just sometimes amazing to just see the flowers of a plant...instead of the whole plant. Like Spirea...I really don't care of the bush, unless it is kept up in shape, but the flowers alone are just beautiful!
