Prayers for Best Friend

Can I ask for your prayers for my best friend of over 50 yrs.? She has been having bowel problems for 2 months & the dr. told her it was a bacterial infection & gave her some meds which have not helped at all. I hope it's nothing serious & would appreciate you guys adding her to your thoughts & prayers. She's like the sister I never had & I've known her all my life. Thank you.

Something was done. He was referred to mental health and was forced to go. That is apparently where the ball was dropped--which is hardly surprising. Psych patients typically remain remarkably sick until two days before their insurance runs out--at which time they always make miraculous recoveries. That way there's little chance of the hospital losing money by discharging them before the benefits run out--and little chance of the hospital losing money by keeping them one minute longer than the insurance lasts. The messages from administration are always veiled but clear--charting needs to reflect the need to stay as long as there are insurance days left--and needs to reflect improvement and stabilization otherwise. There have been some high profile lawsuits by various attorneys general but the trend continues and that's basically the reality of how American psychiatric hospitals do business. It hasn't been too long that the distinguished Chancellor of UC Santa Cruz (???) jumped off the balcony of her San Francisco high rise--in a frankly psychotic state-- according to her poor mother who was with her at the time. This happened the same day she was discharged and therefore "stable." If it can happen to her--it can happen to anyone. I finally got to talk with her tonight. They are only giving her Dad 4 months to live and she has her hands full with work, school, him and the baby. I offered to go and help her but she said she would rather have me close by at the end so I will be saving for a trip to Alabama in a few months. Gotta quit buying plants for a while. Wish it was under better circumstances but I would sell a kidney if I had to do it to be there when she needs me and she wants me to be there for the funeral or as close to then as possible. She has been more than a best friend and sister to me and I can never repay her for all she did for me when I was having a hard time years ago. Gotta go check some airline rates and see what its going to cost so I can plan. This Hawaii trip is at a bad time. I wish I could cancel that but the tickets were not refundable. Keep the prayers up. She needs the strength to get through this tough time and said to thank you all. It means a lot to her. Her dad is so really going downhill fast and its got to be hard to watch and there is one vulture family member moving in already trying to grab all his stuff while he is in the hospital and she is having to deal with that too. So sad.

Yes your friend has my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully she will sail through the chemo with very little side effects. I did. We have a bit of a tradition here that on Thursdays some of us wear red clothing to remember all those at the KT that are going through treatment. If you are looking for a little something to give your friend, may I recommend a book called "No more bad hair days" by Susan Sturges Hyde. The other thing she might find really worthwhile is a little soft pillow to put under her arm when she sleeps. After the mastectomy she may find she has many sensations that she wasn't expecting from those pesky nerve endings. I swore a porcupine lived under my arm for the longest time.

I hope all she needs is stents but I have had three friends under go by pass in the last month....all in their eighties and doing very well. Good thoughts coming to your friend, Sally. The good news is that she's aware of her problem and can take the necessary steps to correct it.

My sister has had irritable bowel syndrome nearly all her life and suffers tremendously. Best thoughts for your friend.

You guys are the best. Thanks so much for all your thoughts & prayers. My friend will have more tests next week, and if nothing shows up, then a colonoscopy is next she told me.

Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts & prayers. So far, I still don't know anything for sure but at least the baterial infection she had has left but she still has the "problem". They're scheduling her for a colonoscopy next week I think. Hopefully, that will show something minor.

Just an update on my best friend. She's still having the problem & has a colonoscopy scheduled for mid-August. She now also has a rash but she's not sure if that's related. It's been a long time since the bowel problem started. She said the tests she's had so far have all proven negative & the dr. can't diagnose it, which would worry me, too.

I'm sorry that your friend is having this problem and worry. I have to say, I'm surprised her doctor waited so long to schedule a colonoscopy for her-- it should have been done first thing, unless there was too much inflammation. I'm glad to know the other tests showed nothing. I'll say a prayer for her.
