I also have 2 little black dots because of having had radiation. Hopefully I will never have any more dots added, and I won't be tatooed elsewhere.

Nope,put me on Zeeteras list!!!
Kathi

There is a tattoo parlor around the corner (in my part of the world there's one around every corner) -- maybe it's time for me. Nah, just kidding. I'm too old and boring.

I had a nice chat with the tattoo artist at that local parlor one day. She told me that even though tattooing is her job, she waited until she was in her '30s to get one of her own.

It is between her shoulder blades, an area that will not stretch if she gains weight and does not show unless she wants it to.

She told me a lot of her business involves fixing tattoos on ladies' abdomens that have stretched from pregnancy or weight gain.

My niece has a couple of pretty ones; a butterfly on one calf and a chain of rosebuds on the other ankle.

No - no way, no how.

Sorry, NO, NO, NO. I come from the generation when the tattoos were found on sailors who came back from a drunken toot with one or more. And now, it's the gangbangers who sport those hideous things. Add me to Sheera's short list.

I have a small butterfly just above my left ankle. It was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. My hubby got another one and so did my Sil. My brother got his first one that day too. I am no spring chicken, but I had long wanted one and waited till I was 66 to get up my nerve. :o)

I don't have one and most likely never will, although I wouldn't rule out something like a memorial one.

Yep! At 58yrs. old, I just got my 1st tattoo April 6,2009. Mine is a Dragonfly and is a Memorial to my husband...even though there are no dates anywhere on it. Only the people closest to me know why it's there and why it's a Dragonfly. To anyone else..it's "just" a Dragonfly and I like it that way! Mine is on the left side of my left leg..right below the knee. I chose the left side, because that's the side the heart is on.

The difference between people with tattoos and those without tattoos, is that people with tattoos don't care that others don't have tattoos!

No I'm a scardy cat. My DGD ages 21 and 25 both have several. I always wonder what would happen if one day they decide they want to get rid of them. I know there is a process to get rid of tatoos but it must be painful.

No. No reason to call attention to this old body. Just not something I would ever do. However, my friend and fellow rehabber, has a raccoon pawprint tattooed inside her arm. I thought about getting a possum hand print...but I never will.

Absolutely no desire to have a tattoo.

Carol

I don't but my sister has a small butterfly just at the top of her instep and is so cute when she wears sandals. I'd love to have one like it but to chicken.

Don't have one yet, but am seriously considering it. I love all sorts of art and tatoos are just another form of art. Very nice pictures, thanks for showing them. NancyLouise

I don't have a problem with pretty little ones in a place not readily seen when dressed. In my opinion, and that's all it is, is my opinion. To see women with their arms looking like they experience "drunken shore leave" with tattoos on their arms, and all over their chests and necks, well that just looks hideous when they are wearing a beautiful wedding gown. To each his/her own, but not for me.

As for dots tattooed on for radiation. That seems like a permanent thing for a hopefully, temporary situation, but if the radiation works, they can be badges of honor for a battle fought and won. Dottie

No but I soooo want one...always have. I have the "design" in my head. I am just so chicken to get it done and when I spoke with a tatoo artist (my son was getting his tatoo) they said the design would be at least $200 and that was a number of years ago.
I envy all of you that had the courage...guess I'm a wuss.

Not in this lifetime! Add me to zeetera's list.

Lots of us have them lots of us don't we are a wide group huh? Sydney wants to get one more and this one I am excited about...she wants the breast cancer ribbon and her grandads name and dates.....since that is what he passed of she is very passionate about breast cancer.....she wants it on the back of her neck I have seen them there and they are sooooo cool looking...I would have more but Brian is not a fan LOL....I would be happy getting mine reinked but he says no...but I say one day LOL they are still bright the colors but really just want to brighten them up...I will do it when he is out on the road and I stay home LOL....Stacy

I haven't had any urges to write on my skin since my last exam in High School.

I'm another one with dots! Six for me from my cancer radiation.

I have not even the slightest desire for a tattoo, and never have. If I make it to 80 years old, I can imagine if I had one what that wrinkled up ol' tattoo would look like- -no one could tell what the heck it was...some of these pretty perky flower tattoos of today, are going to look pretty tired when they have been around 40 to 50 years. Might look like they need fertilizing and a drink of water!!!(;-)LOL Have you seen old men with wrinkly skin that have had tattoos in their younger years? Not pretty!!LOL

I don't have any but always wanted a shamrock above my ankle. I work with a girl that has all the Disney Characters
going down each leg. My son has the Manhatten skyline
with the Twin Towers across his back with the date of the attack as a memorial.

No thanks

No. Not interested in them and don't find them attractive.

Yes, I have 2. I have a flower on my hip that I got when I was 18 and it was a big mistake. Then, I got a grave rubbing I did in Ireland on my lower back. I love it. DH wants to get Brody's name somewhere above his celtic shield with the rampant lion on his on his back, but I'm not sure about getting a name.
Here's mine:

I love that line Bump!!

I have a four leaf clover on my left shoulder. I've had 2 babies and gained weight but the tattoo hasn't changed! I'd love to get some more, but not sure of what and where. Something with my kids names?

For the 3 Rottweilers I've lost. I also have a flamingo.

I sometimes consider getting another. I like the little ones on the instep. I'd probably do a paw print or 2 there. But that doesn't seem unique enough.

I joke sometimes that I might get a tat over my old fashioned gallbladder scar. Just seems like a lot of $$ to spend on something no one will see. Unless I had a tummy tuck. LOL But then the scar would be mostly gone too.

Quite frankly, though I only have the 2 cancer marker dots, I really don't care who has a tatoo. I don't care how many they have. I don't care what they cost, and I don't care how big they are.

Having a tatoo is just not my cup of tea.

I am a teetotaler too, but I really don't care if others drink.

Could it be that 'some' folks with tatoos feel like they are being judged or something?

So long as a tatoo is not obscene, or repulsive, I have no problem with it.

I have the radiation dots and wouldn't even consider a tatoo. Back in my growing up years no respectable women wore tatoos. I don't have a problem with others who like and wear them, it's just not for me.

No. My body looks like a roadmap with all the scars running north and south from so many surgeries. I have no desire for a tatoo.

I have 6 "badges of honour" dots thanks to radiation. I grinned when I read what you wrote Dottie, I must remember that!

No, I do think they can be attractive, but I know someone who got an infection and my own daughter got one and said it was very painful. No thanks!

ChemoCurl..I didn't mean that EVERYONE that doesn't have a tattoo or the desire to get one, is against tattoos on others.*S* BUT there are a lot of people out there that will act like you've lost your mind if you get one! Those are the people I'm talking about. My sister thought I'd lost my mind when I got mine! Did I care? NO!! I can't say I feel like I'm being "judged"..but these days I don't feel much of anything, but it really doesn't bother me that someone might judge me. After all, most "judgement" has it's root in OPINION!*S*

Those of you that have the radiation tattoos! I'm sorry you had to get them..but I'm proud you did! Without them, you might not be here at the KT posting!*S*

I'm right there with Monica - LOL!!!!

I would really like to get a small instep tatoo -- I live in sandals all summer and think it would be fun to have something different. Don't care how old I am or what anyone might think. Unfortunately, I believe a tat may be way out of my price range. DARN!

WOW - I'm surprised how many people here have tats. I don't but I don't care one way or another if other people do. I do sometimes wonder though when I see some of them if people ever regret getting them.

I don't have any, but I've thought about getting a tiny one somewhere, but I don't know what of or where as yet. For me it would be to mark a life changing event, and the only thing going on right now is my divorce, and I don't think I want any lasting visible reminders of that after all is said and done.

I don't have any radiation dots..maybe it is because of where my cancer was..

Yes..I have them in various places on my 65 yr old body...they are called 'Old Age Spots'!! :)

MtnWoman..A life changing event was exactly why I made the decision to get a tattoo. Losing my husband was pretty life changing!

I see tattoos on people that I really wonder if one day they will regret them. My best friends daughter got a Playboy Bunny on her right shoulder several years ago. Yep..now she regrets it. She recently got the Hello Kitty tatted on her foot. She's just in her 20's now..and I'm betting she'll hate that when she's in her 40's-50's.
Names are another thing I wonder if people will one day regret. My SIL married a guy that had "Vicki" (1st wife) on his arm. He and my SIL divorced years ago (she has since passed away) and he is now married to a "Debbie"! lol I remember seeing young man years ago. He was selling newspapers subscriptions outside the grocery store. He had "Betty" tattoo'd on his upper arm. He was probably in his early 20's. I commented on his tattoo being neat and asked if he STILL "loved Betty"! He looked down at it,smiled and said "Betty's my Mom...and I'll always love her"! I thought it was sweet!

No, but I bought my mother one for her 60th birthday.....

I have four tattoos, all easily hidden unless I'm wearing certain tank tops or a swimsuit.

I've never met anyone to regret a tattoo, unless they got someone's name tattooed on them. They just kind of become part of your body, like a birth mark or mole, and I never even notice mine anymore. Even if they end up getting wrinkled or stretched out or whatever, so does everything else on your body so I don't see it as a big deal. All of mine meant something to me at the time, even if they aren't what I would choose to get now.

I have 2 tattoos I got before I had radiation for breast cancer for markers. They look like 2 big black heads--one between my boobs and one on the side. I asked for giraffe shaped tattoos, but they told me they only did the "blackhead" looking ones. I don't know if they still do that or not--it was 10 years ago.

Vannie, your request for giraffes made me smile! When I got mine I jokingly asked for a battleship, but the technician said two dots were the only option. Mine seem to have disappeared over the past twenty years.

Someone here said " And now, it's the gangbangers who sport those hideous things"

I didn't realize so many of the KT'ers were in a gang!!

LOL Joanna!
My family is a gang of their own!

I have 2 tattoo's. A hummingbird and flower on my left ankle. (done in 2 visits) and a flaming heart on my right hip area with DH's initals in the center of the heart.
DH has the most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen. A tigers head and paw. Its bigger than he thought it would be when they started. He's gotten SO many comments on it that its a great work of art! Very detailed.

DD's each have an ankle tat (one has a vine twining around the entire ankle and the other has a small blue heart) alao youngest DD has Chinese symbol on her right shoulder.

DS has a Star on the inside of his bicep. (dunno why? LOL) and has on his left arm Madison (written vertical) with Paige on the right arm. Maddie loves it and she knows it is so she will ALWAYS be with her Daddy. Ooops, just remembered DS also has a Chevy emblem on his chest....that was done when he was 18 and he is still a motorhead at 27!

I have a small heart with flowers on each side on my ankle. I actually had to look at it to remember what it was. Like Jenn said, after a while you don't even notice it.

While the design itself means little to me, the tattoo will always remind me a great time in my life. I was young, living on my own in a great city, hanging out with a great friend (she is still my best friend).

I was thinking today - if I were going to spend some money and get poked with needles I think I'd get some Botox injections. I wonder how the price and pain compare with tatoos......

Lol @ gibby. I didn't think about that! Seriously, though, I have found that tattooing runs about $85-$100 per hour of time it takes to do the tattoo. I'm not sure about the price of Botox, though :)

I don't have a tattoo, but I am considering having fire ant bites tattooed on my ankles. It may make the fire ants think someone else has already been there and leave me alone!
