Burning pics on cd, question

I'm having problems getting pics on cd, think maybe the drive is going bad. Either going to take it to the shop, or get an external burner. Does anyone have one, what kind, how much, etc. When I get all my pics ready, and put disc in drive, it says there is no disc in drive, unable to finish, etc. What to do????

Hi!

I use a thumbdrive for my photos...cheap (at Walmart) quick and EASY to use!

Just tie a colorful yarn to it or you'll misplace it, though...they are little but hold alot of information and photos!

Maybe your disks are bad? Or you could have a program running in the background interfering with the process. Does it play other disks OK? I'd try a new disk to be sure.

lets see.. what can we include in the equation?? how mild was the easy year??? was this winter worse than last ???? is it potted?? ... forcing growth thru ferts???? was there relative drought prior to the bad years??? ... even well cared for... they could have gone into winter in various states of readiness .... interesting there is the same damage on the understock plant ... this winter i presume .... i would have thought.. the wire would have made it worse ... how could it have made it better???? whats the bud at 6 oclock at the bottom of the pic ... understock probably .... no snow cover??? ... i always thought CO was buried in winter snow ... probably a mountain thing ... anyway ... i have never figured out definitive answers to damage at any particular time.. as there are so many variables... its simply impossible to narrow the focus down.. to any one or two variables as to the cause ... i am thinking i was looking at something you sent me this morning... but it was to early to focus on the name tag ... lol ... ken

Since you mentioned just buying the pc then I would guess it is windows 7 you want to go with DVDs for that. the average single layer DVD can hold about 4.7GB of data If you just want to make the system recovery disks then that will take around 4, 4.7Gb DVDs. Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore will take you to the Recovery Center where you can make them. Windows 7 Feature Focus Backup and Restore a nice guide.

Ares is p2p filesharing software, I don't see what it has to do with burning cds. If you have Windows XP, you can right click on the file you want to burn and 'Send to' CD-RW Drive

As only leaving Win98 18 months ago, kicking and screaming I admit, my position is it shouldn't matter R vs RW. I would recommend that she open My Computer and see if the drive is recognizing the disk. Unless you named the disk it should read as a series of numbers rather than the drive letter identifier. If the disk is recognized have her double click on it, or right click and select open on the appearing drop down menu. I do have one other thought. Your WMP version may be so more ahead than hers, she might not have the technical ability to open the files. You might have to redo the disk with perhaps Irfanview and ask her to install it on her system too. Irfanview worked fine on my old Win98 and still does on the one out in the garage. Plus, to avoid the possiblity use a CD-R if you do. DA

Did you buy a new "bundle" of blank CDs? If so, make sure you bought the correct type. There's CD-R and CD+R. Not all burners will burn to CD+R, so you might have the wrong type.

Also, no matter what type of CD it is, make sure it's not in the drive upside down. You'd be surprised at how often that happens. :-)

Did you format the discs?

It all depends on your software and the CD Drive. Some drives and software will format as they write, but you then may have to manage 'closing' and 'opening' a disc.

I keep a few formated discs around so that I can burn a file in a jiffy when I need to. I use re-writable discs and format those as "data" discs. Once formatted, those will operate just like and other data drive.

Everything is different when you use a CR write-once disc. Carefully read the CD Drive manual.

If you have been sucessful in the past, it may be as you suspect; The drive is dying.

Just a thought: Check to see if the blank disks are compatible with your drive. Look at the rating of the write speeds. For example, if your drive is rated for 1X to 4X speed and the disks are 6X to 16X, it is likely that the drive will refuse the disks.

When you get that message have you ever taken the cd out and put it back in wait a minute till your computer recognizes it then click continue. Sometimes if i put my cd in to soon this happens.
