Burning pics on cd, question

I'm having problems getting pics on cd, think maybe the drive is going bad. Either going to take it to the shop, or get an external burner. Does anyone have one, what kind, how much, etc. When I get all my pics ready, and put disc in drive, it says there is no disc in drive, unable to finish, etc. What to do????

Hi!

I use a thumbdrive for my photos...cheap (at Walmart) quick and EASY to use!

Just tie a colorful yarn to it or you'll misplace it, though...they are little but hold alot of information and photos!

Maybe your disks are bad? Or you could have a program running in the background interfering with the process. Does it play other disks OK? I'd try a new disk to be sure.

With my thumbdrive, I just plug it into the USB port on the computer and a box shows on the desktop where I click on open. Immediately the file opens and I can simply drag and drop music, photos, etc. I want in this file just like a floppy. It is fully active to be used until I unplug the drive. I can also plug this thumbdrive into my boombox and play the music if I want. These files can be directly burned on a CD either when the thumbdrive is full or when I want to do it.

Yup! Just did it yesterday with Quicken on a continuing CD-R. That's why a while back if you recall my Roxio EZ-CD Creator corrupted and I asked for information on the then current version. I liked the ability. Also, remember we are talking data/photos here not music. In music the closing action makes a difference if it is to be a generic replay for most anywhere or on the computer of creation. (I think I got that right.) Disclaimer: I have yet to try it on a DVD-R (minus). I guess I should to see if the privilege is the same. DA

I have lots of them, I use them all the time. You can put files or pics or what ever you want on them from your computer to save or to transfer from one place to another, I use them to move certain files from one of my computers to another. I also have one I carry that has all my portable apps on it so if I go somewhere and need to use a pc, I just stick my flash drive in and I have my firefox on it set up just like I want it, and lots of other applications even antivirus programs are made for portable use. They are some what fragile so you have to take care of them, I have a nice padded wallet made just for them I bought to keep them together and protected. as to your question about burning pictures to cd for her to view on her player there are a lot of variables there, if you use the right type of cd if she has a player that will play that type of cd if her player will play picture files, in some cases yes it can work.

Burning question. Vinyl to CD

First, is your CD player able to play MP3s? If not, you need to be sure you are burning audio CDs rather than data CDs full of MP3 files. And in that case, I prefer ripping my vinyl to WAV files to avoid the loss of data the compression in MP3s does. Plus, I've been copying vinyl to CDs since I did it on an old Win98 machine that had trouble converting MP3s at all, much less on the fly. Second, I would avoid multisession burning and rip all the tracks you want for your compilation before starting to burn your CD. I am not clear if you are using Nero to burn the CDs. If so, when you are starting, select "Audio CD" as your project type. Add all the tracks you want to the layout, then burn in one session, letting Nero close the CD at the end. See if that works and if the CD plays in regular players. Anne

Did you buy a new "bundle" of blank CDs? If so, make sure you bought the correct type. There's CD-R and CD+R. Not all burners will burn to CD+R, so you might have the wrong type.

Also, no matter what type of CD it is, make sure it's not in the drive upside down. You'd be surprised at how often that happens. :-)

Did you format the discs?

It all depends on your software and the CD Drive. Some drives and software will format as they write, but you then may have to manage 'closing' and 'opening' a disc.

I keep a few formated discs around so that I can burn a file in a jiffy when I need to. I use re-writable discs and format those as "data" discs. Once formatted, those will operate just like and other data drive.

Everything is different when you use a CR write-once disc. Carefully read the CD Drive manual.

If you have been sucessful in the past, it may be as you suspect; The drive is dying.

Just a thought: Check to see if the blank disks are compatible with your drive. Look at the rating of the write speeds. For example, if your drive is rated for 1X to 4X speed and the disks are 6X to 16X, it is likely that the drive will refuse the disks.

When you get that message have you ever taken the cd out and put it back in wait a minute till your computer recognizes it then click continue. Sometimes if i put my cd in to soon this happens.
