Surgery is cancelled

I went for my pre-op apt. yesterday. She had to consult with the surgeon about stopping my blood thinner for a week. (I had 2 stints put in my heart 5 months ago). The surgeon said NO WAY. He said if they do the surg. while on bld. thinners, I'd probably bleed too much, but if they stop the thinners for a week (routine for surgery), I probably throw a clot. They said the stints are just "too new". SOO they're going to get back with me. They will see if I can have a regular biopsy instead of an OPEN one. UGH~

What is the difference between the two? I guess I've never heard of an open biopsy before.

Oh My Goodness! I got my BOX today from Miss Wendy!! Holy Cow!! First, lemme tell you...she put my address on a large ORANGEcolor> sheet of paper. With googly eyes!! The kids liked that. :O) Then, as I opened it up...the kids looking over my shoulder...they all screamed..."A BOX FULL OF CANDY! CANDY CANDY CANDY!!" To which I said...with large stick in hand..."DOWN DOWN DOWN, YOU JACKELS!! It's not like you've never gotten candy before!!!" (ok, maybe not with a stick...but I sure needed one!!) Please forgive me, Wendy, if I missed anything! ~An orange & black rubber snake (Adora took off with this) ~A multi-colored skeleton light set ~A LARGE LARGE bowl of CANDY, puzzles, pencils, rubber skeletons & bats, halloween jewelry, whoopee cushions...Just TONS of stuff!! ~A bag of spider web (decorative, not real..LOL..) ~Bottles of Pumpkin bubbles ~Iris- "superstition" ~Mini mugs- pumpkins, kitties & ghosts! ~An IV bag of blood (cherry liquid candy...but STILL GROSS!! ICK!!! LOL) ~Ghost & pumpkin tealight candles ~VANILLA BEAN ORCHID!!! Yay!!! :O) ~Seeds!! Tons and tons of SEEDS!!! Some in cute halloween bags! I have an update on DF: it appears that he tried to escape the VA home yesterday and threw a wheelchair at someone, missing them of course, but he did injure his own ear somehow. The doctors believe that he has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, going back to WWII. This does not surprise me, and I know that he suffered from it severely during the early years of his marriage. The bad thing is that he has PTSS, but the good thing is that because of the diagnosis, his care will be paid for by the VA. I definitely believe in veterans getting this kind of benefit, since they sacrifice so much for everyone when they have to go to war. DF does not like to accept help from anyone, which has made his life and his family's life more difficult than it needed to be. Here's a picture of the phalaenopsis that we got at the orchid store. I’m not medically trained, but I’m in and out of a large variety of clinics in our area as a vendor. The responses I’ve seen have been fairly consistent with most. A sign has been posted on the clinic door stating that anyone experiencing a cough or any respiratory related symptoms are to return to their car and call the clinic before entering. They’re screened and more often than not rescheduled with a remote type visit. One thing that I’ve found to be rather baffling though is how unconcerned the staff is with their own care or protection amongst each other. They do what they need to to protect themselves from patients, but there’s literally no distancing or precautions being taken amongst themselves. My husband is receiving chemo right now and that office has a nurse sitting in the hall outside of the clinic doors. In addition to asking a battery of questions, she takes temps of anyone entering the clinic and will only allow the patient through the doors, alone, no family allowed. We had to get special permission for me to see his oncologist with him today, Everyone was wearing protective gear, and tried to distance themselves from each other as much as possible.

Oh boy, am I out of step!! I still have my harvest time/Halloween decorations up! 😫 Generally, I do not decorate all that much anyway and usually wait until mid-December to get to it seriously. But I noticed driving home after dark the other day that Xmas decorating has started very early in my area in a big way and it seems like every house I passed had lights up and a tree in the window!! Even my daughter sent me photos of her tree and decor! I don't do a tree but I do enjoy the lights and candles and the few Christmasy knick-knacks I have. Since I injured my knee, I haven't been doing much around the house but guess I should start making some plans.......

Open biopsy--they were going to remove the duct and biopsy. The symptoms I was having involved the duct.
Needle biopsy, just remove enough to biopsy.
With open biopsy, anesthesia puts you to sleep, the breast is cut open.

((((((((((JAMIE)))))))))) I can honestly tell you the needle punch biopsy is not bad at all. I had it done this week. First they freeze your breast and that is far less painful than dentist freezing. The they make a teeny tiny slit and do needle punch biopsies. I had 4 of them going through the same slit. All you hear is the snap of the punch. Doesn't hurt a bit. Then they steri-strip it, no sutures and give you a wonderful cute little ice pack. I had no discomfort at all. This last one was done with an ultrasound. They tried to do another area of interest the week before with a mammogram type of machine but they couldn't see what they were looking for and after over an hour of squeezing and positioning, simply gave up and apologized. I will likely be getting a second mastectomy. The oncologist said with my history of imflammatory breast cancer, if either test came back inconclusive, he would recommend it. Well since they couldn't get it, that to me is inconclusive.

With my first cancer all they did to diagnose it was a simple needle and syringe into a lymph node. Over in seconds. No freezing. Either way, you will do fine if they okay it with the blood thinners.

I see. Well, shoot, I'm sorry you're having difficulties with this. Any chance you drink caffeinated coffee or tea? I decided, after a suggestion by my doctor, to lay off of it and the lumps (and pain) decreased. I had three open (didn't know they were called that,) biopsies, but wasn't put out for them. They didn't hurt; I just felt a lot of hard tugging.

Somehow they WILL get the tissue tested. Also, can they do one of those specialized breast mri's? I know I read of it several months ago but can't remember the specifics, sorry. Thinking of you, Jamie, and saying a prayer.

Holly is fine Kat. I'm okay with having a second mastectomy. I begged for it 11 years ago and was turned down. It will be nice to be even and to be able to burn the bra. If this is indeed cancer, which we think it is, the good news is that it is a better cancer than I had before. It will also have been caught early as I have yearly mammograms. The oncologist is jumping on this quickly. I'm just hoping that Jamie gets her tests and results quickly too. Waiting and wondering is so hard, it is easier to face the known than the unknown as you know.
