What's for dinner Saturday?

Harry bought a nice porterhouse steak on sale yesterday, so that's our dinner tonight. I have some thick-sliced portabello mushrooms to saute in olive oil and a little butter and twice-baked potatoes. Last time I made them I made a batch, while I was at it. Just have stick them in the oven a while.

Captain D's 3 piece senior fish dinner, $4.99.

Needed something sweet, so just finished munching on banana chips

The Horticultural Society puts on free outdoor music concerts for a couple of hours on select Sundays. Everything from gospel, Steel Drums, etc. This evening hubby's band is playing.

So we ate early, and he's gone to get ready and set up. I'll be going with a couple of friends later on when they're ready to play.

No dinner tonight. We went to a birthday brunch, ate too much, and have been dragging around all day. Neither one of us are used to eating heavily at 10:30 in the morning. Left there and went to Costco since we were close, Fred Meyer (there isn't one here locally) then home and had company for a while. Brunch was at a casino. The food is good, I had bacon and tomato omelet, more. And I did gamble a little before we left. I had almost lost my $20, won it back so played some more (slots) and that time I did lose it. DH lost his $5 on a penny machine and quit :) We're not gamblers, and I must say, its a lot more fun when I can break even or win a little. My SIL had begun with $200 and was up to almost $700 in winnings when we left, she has more disposable income than I feel I do.

Raven, I read about your evening. Sure wish I could've been there. I love Mike and Nita! Glad you found a good place to eat. Shirley, that sounds a whole lot better than Alka-Seltzer Plus :-) Kittiesmom, I never would've thought of marsala sauce on steak but it's a wonderful idea. I always double the sauce because I want it on everything!! Mary, hope you have your cleaning finished. I still need to mop floors before Wednesday. OldFixer, if I thought it's help, I'd surely do it, but for now it's cherry-flavored plop, plop, fizz, fizz! Caroline, after tasting Stouffer's I vowed never to make my own again. Love that stuff! Sue, I'm still craving KFC. One of these days--woohoo! Terri, be still my heart!! I'm so happy to see you serve something you didn't make from scratch--takes away my guilt feelings :-) I think to myself I should be cooking like you. After all, you have the kids, a job, sports, running kids to school functions and still find time to make bread, cookies, etc. K (okay if I just call you K?) I copied and pasted your dinner for the days ahead. I have a jar of green enchilada sauce I bought for something and have now forgotten what it was. That sounds good and easy. Thanks! Thanks everyone, I am feeling better. I slept almost 12 hours. Geez, I must be reverting back to my teens when I could sleep forever. I think it's just a cold, but I always get a little nervous when I don't feel right.

Today was a gloriously sunny day and for some reason I was in the mood for cooking and baking. I made my regular 2 loaves of bread and I had a bunch of ham stock from my boiled ham yesterday. So I made a big pot of cabbage soup and another pot of potato soup, using some ham stock. I also threw some ham pieces in the potato soup. We had a well-done roast of beef with carrots around it. I boiled some Yukon Gold and a sweet potato. While the oven was on, I made some butter tart squares. Here are the fruits of my labour today!

Yes, nasty wet snow out, probably got 6 inches on top of what we had already. I don't have to get out so it doesn't bother me. I was looking for my two big muffin pans, they each hold 24 and in the process started cleaning on my pantry. I did find the pans and will use them Tuesday for my rolls I have to bake. Supper was more of the leftover potato soup and I made a new pie dough and baked a little of it and am putting instant vanilla pudding over it and will try that. I liked the crust. I haven't made up my mind yet. Been cooking all day for the golf trip. Either blackened cat fish and stir fried veggies, or BLT's. I think it will probably be the cat fish since I have some yellow squash, zucchini and bell peppers to get rid of.

I cooked some fresh green beans with potatoes. Topped some lettuce with chicken salad. Boy did those beans taste good.

Oy--I really do know it's Sunday, guys!

I'd love some fried fish, Glenda. Nice and crispy--yummm! I bought banana chips to make something with and ate them all before whatever-it-was, got made. :-)

Jasdip, that will be so fun! Have a great time!!

Georgysmom, cat fish and stir fry sound good. But I couldn't turn down a BLT. What goodies are you making for your trip?

Shirley, is there anything better than fresh green beans? And very good for you, too. I wish I had some about now.

I did wind up making the cat fish tonight. For tomorrow's dinner we're having the French Spring Soup and lemon chicken salad wraps (recipe from the sandwich king....Food Network) The chicken part was a bit of work. I should have just bought a roast chicken and shredded it. For day 2 breakfast we're having scrambled eggs with a bit of parsley and green onions. Everything is preprepared...just have to scramble the eggs. Also made some bretzels to go with that breakfast. The second day we're having lasagna for dinner. I made a greek salad, just have to assemble it. Someone else is bringing garlic bread. The third day we're having hash brown quiche with some lemon dried cherry scones for breakfast, will eat a late lunch early dinner and head for home. I also made some date and nut bread, strawberry banana bread and lemon pound cake with lemon icing that doesn't call for a pound of butter. LOL As I type this, I realize that's a lot of lemon. I hope no one has a lemon allergy!

I now have to clean up the mess I made in the kitchen. It's a good thing I'm a night person.
