Anger is a natural part of the grieving process, and unfortunately your husband has chosen you to be angry at. It's just not fair to you and especially not fair to your sons. I'm glad you have talked about it, but he needs to go to a grief counselor. Call your church, mortuary, or hospital to get referrals. I hope you can get him some help, and I'm sorry you are having such trouble. Best wishes. Susan

Thanks for your thoughtfulness leogirl. Christmas was tough but we managed to have a beautiful and loving get together. My brother in law passed out framed pictures of my nephew to each and everyone of us with a beautiful memory poem attached. The pictures were all different and funny, saying they know "Peter is happy knowing he can still make us smile" o:) My husband is still extremely sad but I can see he is realizing he needs to try and resume his normal activities. My brother in law and his wife are still just going thought the motions that they have to, and have been in contact with MADD and getting a lot of outside support for there family. I think we all have a long road to hoe as the trial and all the legal crap will soon begin. I do count my blessings that we are close enough to offer all the support we can. I wrote my sister in law a letter on Christmas to let her know my feelings, it's amazing what you can put down in words to lift your spirits. Thank you all again for letting me ramble on here!! I wish that no one has to go through this kind of grieving.

the grown son is thinking only of himself. from what you describe, it would have been a kindness to this dog had they opted to go with the parents' wishes. no dog should be forced to live a life of solitude and to my way of thinking, would be better off dead than alive and miserable. :( i hate to attribute human characteristics to animals but from my own personal experience, especially with maggie, nobody will ever convince me that dogs don't grieve almost as much as we do. we had hospice for 3 weeks before my husband passed away. we were up the lane at his mother's house. my dogs came up every day and kept a vigil at her back door. i took them home every night and shut them in the house and would go up every morning and let them out. they would come and take up their stations at her back door. the night gary died, i took the dogs home and went back up to spend one more night with his mom. the next day, i spent most of the day with her at her house. the dogs never came up. they just knew he wasn't there any longer. at one point, i had moved gary's favorite recliner from my house to her house for him to use. after he died, every evening for many weeks, maggie slept on the floor in our living room, in the very spot where gary's recliner used to live. she refused to come to bed with me for a very long time. it was truly heartbreaking to watch her grieve because i could not explain to her what was happening. she was truly HIS dog and for the 21 months he was ill, she rarely left his side.
