Where to find a really nice lamp shade or two

I need lamp shades for some lamps, but I don't find any really nice ones at the lamp stores. Where do you find good lammpshades???

Penneys used to carry a nice line of shades, but that was some years ago. Good luck!

I know this is old but if your still looking for the right thing to plant You might try hydrangas, tiny Japanese maple, a garden sculpture made of chicken wire with succulants, gardinas, cammillias and there is a beautiful Japanese holly that has sort of purpley leaves and berries (sorry not sure of the name) that might also work, there were some great ideas on this tread so hopefully something will work, I also have an entire back yard very shady some intense shade and some filtered, just b sure you have the soil amended and water and fertilize correctly, because I have figured out that that can go along ways in getting a plant that might not work in certain spots to cooperate with you and be happy

Where to find a nice but reasonably priced vanity?

After weeks of looking and recovering from the sticker shock in the plumbing stores I finally went on line and ordered one. Some of the vanities I saw in the shops ranged from $2000 to over $5000 for a 36 in vanity! I'm only a poor hard working Civil Engineer and I'm not paying thousands for a @#$%# vanity! You could also try Costco or maybe Sams Club. I finally ordered this one. http://www.menards.com/main/bath/vanity-ensembles/fresca-caro-natural-wood-modern-bathroom-vanity-w-mirrored-side-cabinet/p-1729847.htm It's not actually American oak it's made from parawood or rubberwood which turns out to be an excellent wood choice for a bathroom. See http://www.ehow.com/about_5098656_rubberwood-furniture.html The vanity is very well made, has excellent cabinet hardware, and comes with everything including the faucet and p-trap. The mirror and and the side cabinet are included. Fresca does have other styles and colors. By the way here is something interesting. Over the space of two weeks I kept going back to different sites looking at vanities. By doing so the the price dropped from $900 to $760.00 for the one I bought. Be careful of anything less than $500. Most of it is particle board or is cheaply made. Check to see if the doors and drawers are square and how well the drawers close. Good luck.

I love to hear stories like these. It really does seem as if everyone wins when something like this transpires. When i was little and living on the East Coast, i used to love to go to tag sales (a.k.a. garage sales) in search of undiscovered treasures. These kinds of thrilling discoveries were not so uncommon then. This day and age, though, many people seem to have what i would call an Antique Roadshow or E-bay mentality, and consequently tend to overprice mediocre items rather than underprice quality finds. This is based on my experience, of course, which could be skewed. In any event, congratulations on your wonderful find. It really is stunning.

When I lived in Dallas, Arteriors Too was my go-to for lampshades. It's the outlet for the Arteriors brand. Probably more contemporary store than you would be interested in, but they do sell tons of lampshades. Check our Arteriors online and see if you like anything. You would probably need a third party retailer to actually buy them from. I know this comment isn't super helpful in this situation, but just throwing it out there for future use or in case anyone else didn't know about Arteriors' shades.

Lowe's usually has nice lamp shades. One of my favorite lamp shades came from Target a few years ago, so I second that suggestion, also!

Perfect lamp shades are hard to find. I have had my best luck at a small lamp shop where I can take my lamp and "try-on" shades. The staff is wonderful, and helps with harps and finials, too! Maybe you haven't found the right lamp shop. I can recommend one in Texas!

I did find mix and match lamps and shades, decorative finials, at Lowe's a few years ago....nothing really, really special but nice.

My very favorite place - Lamplighters Lamp Shades on E Burnside in Portland Oregon, only it's 2 1/4 hours away, and any time I'm down there I'm too busy with family to shop. I bought a gorgeous silk shade there a few years ago and haven't been able to get back...

I just ordered two from here this week, needed the close-to-wall shape....I'll let you know if I'm pleased...

If you were interested, my lamp shades from Shades of Light came today and I'm quite happy with them. A good weight quality shantung silk - the lining may not be silk but that's OK, it was the lining that disintegrated in the old shades I was replacing. These have a same color braid trim that's applied to look seamless, no overlaps or glue but sewn, very well done.

I'd buy from them again. Their packaging was flawless (came FedEx, took 8 days from order date), but method used prohibited sending two shades same box, the shades are individually boxed and sort of suspended by heavy cardboard 'framing' inside - which meant I did have to pay shipping for two packages needing two identical shades, but that's OK...really needed these and shape had been difficult for me to find.
