Love the dogs--of course, you and your family look great too. Which beach are you at? I saw mention of Holly Beach in another post of yours. It's been years since I have been there--used to go quite a bit while growing up. I think Brian has the best job--traveling to so many different places and getting paid for it--you are lucky too to get to go with him--and take your dogs with you.

This was taken right before you get to Holly Beach.....can't remember the name just a few miles up from it...nothing left here at all they are finally rebuilding back from Ike an Rita but there is only one store before you start into the beach areas an then at Holly beach nothing but 5th wheels an beach houses going up! No stores at all....when you take the ferry to Cameron you have a store right off one little resturant an then a dollar store then nothing until 5 miles away before you turn to Rutherford Beach....Yes he does have a great job I love it....Sydney an Dylan will be here tomorrow, Tanner is still on his Mission Trip....Stacy

First step - tradition - bundling up as kids, taking axes & saws, and tromping thru snow to find that perfect tree to cut down, and somehow getting it home. Always placed in the corner, so perfect it had to be tied to the two adjoining window sills with rope to keep it standing. Ah, that fresh pine smell. Ah, a week later, needles everywhere! So what, we had a tree. It was adorned with those big lights, bubble lights, an array of fabulous ornaments, and the tinsel. Always looking every day in case a new wrapped gift appeared under the tree. I never have, and never will, shake, peek, or question the giver. A gift should be a surprise. The gift pile would magically increase overnite after Santa's Christmas Eve visit, and the cookie plate would be empty. Early risng was necessary on Christmas morning to see the bounty, and siblings would wake siblings first. Old parents can wait. Breakfast was on the fly, if at all. It was a full morning of PJ's and paper and toys (and boring socks!) Everyone had their pile of goodies before the wrappings were discarded. We had to be dressed before the big meal, usually 1:00. The dining room table was fully extended, and the fine china place settings carefully placed. The best meal was duck, roasted to crispy perfection with all the trimmings. Gobble gobble, and back to the toys. Christmas Day was for our family to enjoy Christmas, not running all over the place. Friends/relatives could visit the next day, or whenever. New Years Day, the holiday was over, so take down the tree. Ornaments were carefully packed away. And a final vacuum of those needles. The tree was chopped into small pieces and shoved into the coal furnace. Roast Pine! Bye bye Christmas for another year. The picture shows one box of some of the tree ornaments, which I still have. There are also some of the huge, round, hand painted ones. Fa La La, and Merry Christmas to all.

The science of memory demonstrates very clearly that people's brains "fill in" details from other occurrances of the same event or even other events entirely when recalling, and that process is more pronounced with length of time from the actual event. In fact, it is not so much "re-calling" an event as it is piecing it together out of whatever the brain has handy at the moment! The above is just one reason to distrust journalists' accounts. Add that to the general television reporter hubris and need for ratings and you have a lab perfect conditions for misinformation. A picture is NOT worth a thousand words, because the footage you see accompanying the voice overs in televised reporting may not even be in the same province or country as the story being told. Every clip shown is chosen with personal bias, every word of the script (sometimes written by a kid right out of college who hasn't the fund of knowledge to know s/he is making mistakes), and every cut by an editor shapes a televised story and takes it farther from the actual unvarnished truth. The vast majority of televised news is untruth to some extent. Just my opinion, of course, but based on years of knowing these people. About 20 years ago we got rid of our television partly because I did not want our kids to grow up thinking that televised reporting was a reliable source of truth. Brian Williams is an oaf, but he is just one of many, and one of many at NBC. They'll have to make an example of him but that simply clear the way for the next person who is paid $10 million per year to perform. Did you know those people are not called journalists? In their contracts and in the studios they are the Talent, and they perform.

Carol, very nice rose blooms! YES 90's-97 degrees is hot for your zone Carol... Nanadoll, really enjoyed your photos! What are hops Nanadoll??? Very humid here... Makes the mid to upper 80's feel like its in the 100's...lol Our Julia Child is out front (side) where people can see her so I want those 3 roses in that bed to look there best... MOTH has not disappointed...Plum Perfect needs more time to grow so still being avaluated... Julia Child is now 70% engulfed with Blackspot and dropping leaves at a fast rate....JC also dies way back here after winter.....SO most likely I'll replace JC with a Sparkle and Shine rose and see how that goes...Our neighbor planted a 3-5 gallon Sparkle and Shine in June its already as big as our Julia and it has no BS...SO might just try it next year... Carefree Celebration today... ES with a white streak...lol

That is so tragic, Nuts. From your description and my experience with a family member who has a serious mental illness, it sounds like that teenager had a psychotic break. He most likely was hallucinating that the child he murdered was some sort of demon or alien (this is a common hallucination for those with schizophrenia). The illness usually manifests in the prime of life-teenage or young adult years. It is an awful disease, however most people with mental illnesses are more likely to be harmed than to harm others. i keep wondering about Brian Laundrie's parents and what they knew. They must have known he was abusive since he and Gabby lived with them. I think there is more to this story. Trail, thank you so much for sharing your story. Addiction is such a painful disease not only for the addict but for those of us who love them.

Nice beach shots. My Doxie, Elvira, hates the water and will only run into it at the beach if chasing a sea gull. Then she gets this expression on her face of surprise, like how did I get into this stuff!

I loved the pictures Stacy, but the last two didn't load in for me, it is my slow internet. Does your Doxie like the sun? Amber's Angel really likes it and seeks it out and sunbathes. Thanks for posting the pics.

You do look content Stacy. Not fat. Nice looking parents too. Oh and when I asked you about getting shrimp there in Port Arthur, I was thinking of Port Isabel. By South Padre Island. Wrong port.

Thanks everyone....Leslie actually we haven't gotten shrimp at Pt. Arthur we get it at Calcasieu Parish (Cameron is the town) and we just go to this one guys place to get it.....last time we went we bought over 100 lbs. Had to bring back for all the workers at the office.....That man loved us that trip. My sister buys from Pt Arthur an that is where we go crabbing also if we don't want to go all the way to the beach....Stacy

I love reading about your travels to LA--just seeing someone else enjoying Calcasieu Parish makes me smile. I graduated from Sulphur High--way back in the old days--1981!!! I haven't been home in so long but sure do remember buying shrimp down there--and the crabbing. YUMMY!!
We used to go shrimping ourselves in our little john boat. I remember sitting on the carport peeling shrimp from 50 gallon trash cans--talk about lots of shrimp. Sorry to ramble--just wanted to say thanks for making me remember some good times. Sheila

Doxie_Mom I didn't know you grad. from sulphur...I too graduated in 81...so guessing we are the same age.....but we don't need to go there....
I do love this part of the country an it is sooo great to be around my family here.....
Sydney an Dylan are on their way...D is staying with us an Syd an Racheal are going to Galvastan!! Then after not sure how long they are staying there they are coming here to stay an then take D back....I won't go back for awhile as Syd is taking Tanner an D school clothes shopping...I just need to provide the money LOL Stacy

We probably are the same age--did you graduate from Sulphur? I know what you mean about loving that part of the country--there is no place like it. I only moved away because my husband was in the AF--I met him when he was stationed at Alexandria with my cousin. There is a "feel" to that area that I haven't felt anywhere else but maybe that was because I was born there. I miss it. I drove to Galveston once--that was a big thing for me because I have an irrational fear of being on the water--and I rode the ferry over--I was so proud of myself for driving my car onto the ferry!!
Enjoy your kids visits--I know that means a lot to you. Sheila
