Some pictures- storms and one of the girls

Here's some recent pictures of life here at the farm. (In Saskatchewan) Only 3 more weeks until we get into our house in town! I'm so excited! I will miss aspects of the farm though.

Here are the girls riding bikes/running. Annie (7) is in the front, Claire (4) is in the middle (she prefers to ride the tricycle, lol) and Evelyn (1) is bringing up the rear.

Here is one of the fields yesterday. I'm not sure what's planted there. I want to say canola? Anyway it's bright yellow and lovely.

And here are two storms that passed through here recently. Saskatchewan is called the "Land of Living Skies" and I'm sure you can see why. :D

I live in Upstate NY - near the Canadian border - yes, WAY upstate - Zone 4a! I wanted to post some pictures of the ice storm that we had around Christmas. Many of our trees were destroyed - seriously. I have a White Pine that I loved - blocked the view of the house - that is basically sheared away in the middle. Still not sure what we are going to do with this. Many trees were just snapped. My Tamarack snapped and the top ten feet of the tree broke off. Three Red Cedars almost done for. Poplars that were sheared. I will be honesty and say it is hard for me to go back and look at these pictures. Almost two months later now we have cut and chipped some limbs (figured we better get started on this early) that are already on the ground. The big Black Cherry we had to skid out with the 4-wheeler and we cut down the remaining truck and skidded that out too. We have had quite a bit of snowfall as of late so getting in there with the chipper is not possible now. When we bought this property it hadn't been maintained all that well in the last few years. We have worked hard the last three years sprucing it up and to see this act of God hurt. It is ironic to me because I know how obsessed, literally, I have been with it and to watch God allow it to be cut down in a matter of days - wow! Maybe He is trying to tell me something - more important things in life???? My DH kept telling me it could have been worse - tree through the roof, etc. - he is right I know but still hard for me to swallow - I loved all the work we had done. If anyone has any suggestions as far as what to do with these - obviously some have to be cut to the ground - I'd appreciate to hear anyone's opinion. White Pine Before/During Ice Storm - entire middle section is pretty much missing. You can see the snapped branches - I couldn't believe how many I hauled out of there that were just snapped off. Tamarack with top ten feet snapped out of it. Next to White Pine in above picture. Three Red Cedars as the ice storm was just starting/and now. Black Cherry Limb snapped off - honestly, this is the only one I really did want gone. Back of the house: You can see the White Birch that is hanging toward the house in the center and over another smaller red cedar. This tree is really three trunks and I imagine we will be cutting it down this Spring. The one limb never went all the way back up and the other two trunks are snapped at the tops.

My sweet almond verbana tree (approx. 12 feet tall) was knocked down and when it fell, it took out part of our fence. My arbor was also blown a few feet away and when it fell to the ground it snapped my honey bell tangelo in half. Tha is the worst that happen and a consider myself lucky because I know there were some twisters a few miles away in the area. Funny thing is no one else around us had any damage. My hubby and I were able to use a truck and pull the verbana tree back up. We staked it in the ground and my fingers are crossed that it will live. We took a video of us pulling the tree back up. I will try to post a link to it a bit later.

Awww...Dan, I only WISH I was that relaxed! LOL! You're right, Marie...it is beautiful. I just wish it didn't come with the destruction. :O) Here's one quick "after" picture, it's horrible because I forgot to reset the white balance on the camera. All the downed trees had to be removed with the tractors, and our utility pole (what's left of it!) is still propped up with 2x4's. The back side of both buildings were hit & smushed....but thankfully, you can't see those from the road! :O)

Welcome! You've just signed up for a very stressful, exciting, and often fun ride! Have you had a chance to read the "Read Me" thread? In the thread there's a link to the "Sweeby Test" that might help you clarify your vision. Forget cabinet/granite color, etc, for a few minutes and take the Test... Then, take a look at the Finished Kitchens blog that ChicagAns linked to and start looking at kitchens. I suspect you may want a "Transitional" style kitchen...a style that's b/w a traditional or vintage look and modern look. That one of the girls practically takes my breath away. That really should be in a magazine somewhere....the way they're each going at their own appropriate pace, but going on the same path.......!!!!

Yep Canola got lots of it here and flax is the prettiest blue. So pretty when they are next to each other.

You live in such a beautiful area. The the shot of the girls is adorable. Evelyn just working those legs as hard as she can to keep up. She's a real blond, isn't she? Thanks for sharing. Your pics made me smile.

I'm so glad you liked my pictures! :) Evelyn was doing her darndest to catch up, mostly because she wants to climb into Claire's basket.

Where are you in Alberta Jellybean?

I thought that was canola. Jason tried to convince me it was something else so now I can brag that I was right. :)

I am closer to you again Marie! We'll have to get together some time. I need to get passports for all of us first though.

Nodakgal, I was just thinking to myself this morning that I will miss being able to have our window open in the morning and not be woken up by any noise. It was just rain and birdsong this morning. I will miss that a LOT.

Socks, Evelyn is very blonde and her hair is also taking forever to grow, lol. It's coming though...slowly.

Okwriter the cons are mice. And the mice. Did I mention the mice? LOL And the oil for heating is EXPENSIVE. And dial-up. Also I think that there is a rat living in the garage and Jason refuses to believe me. He insists it's a weasel. But what weasel would eat a package of candy? *shiver*

We caught the edge of that last storm. It was pretty intense. The pink sheets at the bottom of the clouds are rain. I could actually hear it as I was taking the picture and it was probably a kilometre away.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment! I can't wait to move into town so I can enjoy everyone's pictures again. It just takes so darn long to download them that I often don't brave it. :( And I love looking at people's pictures!

It's funny I try to picture what people's houses or areas look like, but I never could thik of something like that! Very nice!
