Our Paris Hotel room. It looks nicer/cleaner than it was and the towels smelled funky. Boy they also used a wide angle lens on their website too. LOL! We didn't stay in there long, though, just to bath and sleep, so it served it's purpose.

Great pictures. I love castles. When my brother and I toured Heidelberg Castle the tour guide showed us a gigantic barrel and explained that local were allowed to pay the tax they owed in beer or wine or mead. When they did so the wine or beer was all poured into the giant barrel. Then the guards working in the castle were provided some number of mugs per day of whatever came out of the barrel. Yum. Also they explained that the moat around the castle was made using local sandstone, which was quite porous, and if they filled the moat, which took several days, it would all leak out within a week or two. I guess it was only useful if any attackers were thoughtful enough to call ahead to let the castle know when they were coming.

One thing to note is that pork/pigs have been bred for lean meat in the last few decades in the US, but NOT necessarily in EU/Germany. So the wonderfully tender pork you may experience in the EU is not the same and cannot be replicated into recipes in the US. Just an FYI, in case one thinks the EU has stellar pork cooking techniques (which they may), but not as much as you might think. Think of prime US beef ribeye (fatty) vs. choice NY strip (fairly lean) and you'll get the idea.

Zeetera, yes I drove everywhere we went...well except for once we found our hotel in Paris. No way was I driving there until I absolutely had to. What a nightmare coming and going. I love to drive so it wasn't too bad, just tiring by the end of the trip. Judy, who came with us didn't drive until the last couple days she was there. I tried to get her to drive us out of Paris but she wouldn't do it-LOL! It only took us a couple hours to find the highway out. Most of the driving wasn't too bad, but there was a lot of construction going on and tons of traffic near all the major cities so it was a lot slower than I had planned at times. They have rest areas all along the autobahn in both Germany and France with clean bathrooms, most have restaurants, park like areas too, lot of Burger Kings too. It was really confusing around Hahn airport/former U.S. base where I was stationed. They had made one of the main roads (50) into a four lane divided highway and 327 seems to have been broken up into more than one section of road, so I kept getting lost and having to refer to the map. Otherwise it wasn't too bad and can be fun driving over there.

That is a teeny room! I can't believe that you crammed four of you in there.

The kids crack me up because they always look unimpressed no matter what amazing thing they're posing by, LOL.

Your pics are just amazing! I really hope to have a European tour one day. I think that would be the most awesome thing ever. I'm glad that you had such a nice trip!

Mtnwomanbc, it was the hotel St. Louis-Marais. The staircase in their picture looks wide, but it's actually very narrow and kinda slanted. The carpet on it was filthy. We weren't too far from the river and Notre Dame.

Danielle, that was the girl's room. Three of us stayed in there. The boys had their own room on the main floor. The only rooms in Europe that accomadate 4 people are the youth hostels. They occationally had triple rooms, like this one so to make it cheaper, Judy, my co-worker shared with me and Lauren.

I don't ever plan on going back. The whole area where we stayed smelled like urine. It was gross.
