Low Fat Cheese

Since the first time I had low fat cheese cheddar cheese in the 1980's I never ate it again because I didn't like the taste nor the texture of it. Well, that has changed. LOL

I love Cracker Barrel's 2% m.f. old cheddar. I was at a friend's house a couple of months ago and she was slicing up some cheese and handed me a piece. I just thought it was regular cheese but something was different. I asked my friend what kind of cheese it was because I liked the flavour of it and the texture. She said it was Cracker Barrels low fat cheese. I was really surprised!

Cheese around here is pricey - 500g of any of the mass produced cheese that is sold runs about $8.99 but usually one of the chain supermarkets has it on for $4.99 or $5.99. I will not pay the higher price for massed produced cheese I don't mind though paying the higher price for Specialty cheeses.

This low fat old cheddar makes the best grilled cheese sandwich and is great in salads. Melts really good on a grilled cheese and when you cut open your sandwich the cheese gently melts over the edge. I stopped eating the plastic wrapped cheese slices years ago.

Speaking of cheese, have you tried horseradish flavoured cheese? My favourite and I can't find it here in deli sized slices. Whenever my sister goes to St. Louis, MO I have her bring me deli slices of it from Derberg's(sp) grocery store. Has a nice bite to it and is wonderful on a rare roast beef sandwich.

I don't know if Cracker Barrel Cheese is a Canadian brand or not. I know you have Cracker Barrel restaurants but I don't think this is the same.

If you try the Cracker Barrel low fat old cheddar cheese let me know what you think of it. I just used some of the cheese shredded in a broccoli salad I made last night and it is really good.
