Can you please ID this baby bird?

Two adult robins were in the vicinity, possibly looking nervous as this one repeatedly tried to navigate a vinyl tarp covering a woodpile. It looks big enough to be a baby robin, and has the long beak. But I wouldn't have expected robins to have so much yellow on them. And it doesn't look like other baby robins I think I remember from other years.

The pictures could be better.....they were taken very long-range because I didn't want to scare the poor thing.

It looks like an Oriole to me.

I love a lot of trees, always liked the big Norway maples. I'll transplant it in January when it is dormant. Don't really have even an inch anywhere for another tree unless it likes very wet standing water -- not the Norway. But will look for a spot. Did plant a Weeping Crabapple, molten lava, but it's at the far end of the yard. Will have to transplant that newbie crabapple in January too. Wonder what type it is? But the hawthornes .... drats .... no place for them, will have to dig them up in January and sneak them somewhere to plant. THANK YOU FOR THE IDs !!!

there are decals that you can buy that are almost invisibe to you but realy reflect colors to the birds. I have a kitchen window that was a big bird strike area, since the decals...no strikes at all. I will try to find a link or info on them for you, only about $5.00 for a pack of 4. (also can move them from window to window as the seasons chang and different windows become strike areas).Mine are maple leaf shaped and transparent, but they really work. Lisa

Can it hop? Is it feathered out or is it still pink and naked looking? If it can hop and is feathered and there are bushes nearby the parents will guide it to a safe spot they will feed it. If it is in a dangerous spot like near the street or on the sidewalk place it on low brances or in a bush as near to the nest as you can find. Don't try to put it back in the nest or you may make the others jump out. If it is still kind of bald and no where near being able to fly or hop around put it back in the nest. The parents will feed it, birds do not smell well at all.

It's a European starling..They are invasive, kill other bird nestlings and their nest should be removed.They aren't protected by law as they aren't native and cause harm to other cavity nesters.. Oooh, I'll bet it is! This is exciting!! We've had orioles passing through before, but never staying to make babies. I put up this feeder the other day, but so far no action. Thanks, Patti!!

Also...robins legs aren't black...at least I don't think so...they are more brownish and lighter in color.

We have some Orioles that nest in the trees every year here...but not many of them.

Look for a hanging basket(more like a bag) woven of grasses attached to a limb of the tree usually quite high.

My daughter has one hanging in her back yard but not very high...they can watch them going in and out of the nest

I think Patti's right. The upper chest on a robin seems to be very speckled and I don't notice any speckling on your photos. But I'm jealous! I barely catch a glimpse of my orioles as they flit through the trees and you managed to get a great photo last month and now you have a baby. You'll have to see if the parents come down to feed their baby.

I believe it's a young female goldfinch.

It is an Oriole fledgling and that hanging nest is an Oriole's nest. I had them in my trees in Missouri.

It's an oriole. Our orioles prefer grape jelly to oranges.

Yes, he looks just like the pictures at the link Patti posted. The feeder has a little cup of grape jelly between the oranges. I'm hopeful...... :-)

The baby bird hadn't mastered flying when I was looking at him. I went in the house to process these pictures and post my question, and when I went back outside he had disappeared. Do birds suddenly "get" flying? Or do you think maybe his parents encouraged him to go somewhere else?

We've had a nest of baby house wrens in a birdhouse hanging from the porch. They all managed to leave without me seeing their flying lessons. I see them around, though. And hear them!

There's a catbird next in a big mulberry bush. I never knew catbirds had such a beautiful song.

And, as always, robins and phoebes are nesting in my garage.

With so many interesting things going on around the property, I hate to leave for work!
