Are You Cooking In Your Kitchen?

I am. I have fixed cucumber salad, coleslaw, cooking the boneless pork loin for barbecue sandwiches tomorrow, baked a chocolate zucchini cake, and am browning up the stuff to make a baked pasta. I plan to fill a pie shell I had baked and bake some cookies. Some will be here tomorrow after church, for lunch. Are you cooking today?

I will cook quiche for lunch, but dinner is being cooked for me by my sons who are here a week early to celebrate my birthday around vacation plans. One is baking a pie and making sangria. The other is doing fresh fish tacos, something he loves but which I have never tasted.

That's a beautiful cake, Tracey! I can't cook when I'm bored because about the only time I get bored is at work, and that's not often, but is usually this time of year and in the heat of the summer. That being said, I can't say if I cook when I'm bored or not, cause I'm not sure if that's what leads me to decide to cook or bake something or not. Frequently, I'll start cleaning the kitchen, I mean, really cleaning the kitchen, then, with it so nice and clean, I get motivated to mess it up again, and out comes the cookbooks, flour, sugar and other ingredients for baking. It never fails. And it never fails to really mess up the kitchen, either, lol! Than I have to start all over again. Is that because I'm bored, or in the mood to be busy? I think more the latter. This thread, which I didn't catch the first time around, made me think. In general, I cook to eat and feed my family. However, I do enjoy baking for special occasions. I think that if I didn't work outside the home I would cook more...and be more adventurous. But, I work and have a long commute so by the time I get home I have to make fast meals with little time for creativity or major prep work. So, we eat a lot of frozen veggies--as is out of the bag, pre-cooked meats warmed up, pasta, soup, occasionally waffles/pancakes/eggs, potatoes, etc. I.e., for the most part things that I can cook fast. One up side to this is that our meals haven't changed that much w/o a kitchen since we do have a MW, Toaster Oven, and hot plate to cook with! One very big downside to this, though, is that my children are not learning to cook like I did from my mom. Back on topic... After finding this site and reading about zones, I realized that one thing that I really wanted was a baking center. So when my kitchen was being designed I had it in the back of my head that whatever we ended up with had to have an area I could designate my "Baking Zone", preferably near the ovens--with room to roll out dough, spread out cookie sheets, and have cookie cutters spread out all at the same time! The other thing I got from this site was our window...having the window down to the counter (OK, not cooking-related, but a very important design element!) Our very first plan that our KD came up with had input from us...but a very naive/ignorant us! (Before GW...BGW!) Then....I found this site.....and the changes began. Actually, I posted that original plan and asked for help (and also asked my KD to start over w/no island) Many, many people here helped me come up with a plan over several weeks (months?). We finally came up with a plan that has changed little since then. Interestingly, when I took away the island "must have", my KD came up with a plan very similar to what we came up with here. The only 3 differences were (1) no mini peninsula, (2) a 36" pantry cabinet rather than a corner pantry, and (3) no separate Message Center cabinets. My KD wasn't completely happy w/our differences, but she, wisely I thought, told me to go home and mock up what I wanted to see how it would work (same advice I got here!) Well, the mock up was great! It proved that I did indeed want the mini peninsula (I liked it so much I left the mock up in place until demo and used it!) When I told her the results, she didn't argue, she accepted it telling me it's my kitchen, so ultimately it's up to me. So in the end, my design was/is based on what I wanted, not what the KD wanted. [If only someone else had measured my kitchen and she was given more authority, I think a lot of subsequent problems would have been avoided.] Our kitchen isn't done yet, but it's close...so I can't yet tell you how it is going to work for us...but we are so...

Takeout. You wouldn't want to get your shiny new kitchen dirty, would you?? I kid. We've yet to remodel our kitchen, but once it's done, we'll probably do something fancy like braised lamb shanks and polenta to celebrate (and use all aspects of our new range). I don't remeber what we made the first night after moving in - we hadn't slept since I don't know when (we did not do a good job prepping for our move) - but I think we heated up some Trader Joe's frozen stuff on the stove.

I made cukes and onions, green beans and made a carrot cake. We are going to a party for our BIL'S birthday this evening. His favorite is carrot cake with the cream cheese icing!! Yum, yum!!

Just using the top of the stove and the microwave. I will cook this evening after I finish canning the figs. I'm making marinated vegetables to have in the fridge for a few days and I will put a turkey breast in the crock pot. I have apples and peaches from our trees that are crying to be made into pies. I wish I had Marilyn Sue here to motivate me!!

Sue, you amaze me. I wish I had half your stamina!

I just took a cherry chocolate chip cake from the oven. Will ice it when it cools. While it was baking I made a pasta salad with some chicken added to it. It is all going to Erie tomorrow for a visit with my sister. My brother and his wife will be there also.

Now, I am all in...probably Digiorno and beer for supper. Hopefully I will find the energy to fix a salad to go with it.

I keep telling Sue that I want to move in next door to her. She can either deliver food to me, or pick me up on her big rig and take me to her house. lol

yes as it's not quite as hot and breeze...but I did use the oven 2 days ago...I turn on the range top fan, had the window fan on high..and only for 20 minutes...

Actually, yes! Have been baking cookies almost all day. Just took the last cookie sheet out of the oven. The kitchen smells sooooo good.

I need to take some to a reception Sunday afternoon, and i want to take some to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center where I volunteer.

I pray that I will stay out of them! Don't tell me to freeze them. Frozen cookies are my favorite kind!

I cook in the kitchen every day. The a/c is on & I can't stay away from the kitchen.

Cooking as little as possible. Its too hot and the A/C is running big time. I use the microwave when appropriate. (Others say its really because I'm lazy and wish to minimize the cleanup afterward.)

We had take out burgers last night and pizza tonight~~~I hate to cook~~~we grill alot and I do cook some very little now day;) And I have never been a baker;(

Yes. Yesterday I made bread to go with a chef's salad we were having for dinner. Today, I am baking a scratch yellow cake and will make a cooked fudge frosting to go on top. Will also be skillet cooking Reuben Sandwiches.

We decided to try to eat somewhat light this weekend.

Almost every day, the weekends we try to eat out at least once so I can have a respite lol.
I have been using my Aroma cooker a lot though which does not heat the place up at all.
Tonight I think I will make a beef stew in it.

Yes. *sigh* We have company for the week. No AC and it's in the 90's here. Spent 7 hours yesterday making Chinese. By request. Shrimp fried rice, egg rolls, egg foo yung and S&S chicken. Barely touched beause they pulled in hours later than expected and it was just too hot to eat a big meal. Hurt my feelings a little bit. Hubby and my Boss, and his family, will take care of the tons of leftovers.

We made fish tacos tonight. Baked the tilapia and made the sauce out of sour cream, salt, pepper, and cilantro and hot peppers from the garden. I made a capers e salad with fresh mozzarella, farm stand tomatoes and basil from the garden. We love to cook!

Jude31, it is a Yamaha golf cart. I use it just about everyday and have so much fun and saves me so many steps. Little granddaughter Alyssa loves to ride on it with us. Mostly we drive it through our woods and out and about to the garden. My husband gave it that name when I first bought it. I have a trailer the kids bought for it and can haul things with it too. I use it every week to haul the cans of trash out to the road as our drive is fairly long. Izzi my red Pomeranian thinks it can't leave the garage with out her riding on it too.
