I was in a car accident today (I am ok)

I was involved in an accident today through no fault of my own. I was stopped at a stop sign when 2 other cars got into an accident, sending one of them slamming into my stopped vehicle. I bumped my head on the door but I am fine. My van was towed, I hope we can get it fixed quickly. I had my camera so of course I took lots of pictures. Emergency crews were on the site very quickly.

That really gets the heart pumping doesn't it?
I once was rear ended by a gal while stopped behind another car waiting to turn. Scary.

I don't know of too many people who would take pictures of an accident they were in. LOL

I remember about 15 years ago, a girl from my workplace got killed turning into a business. A car rear-ended her and her front wheels were turned to the left, to turn into the business. The crash forced her into on-coming traffic and she was killed instantly. Ever since then, I never have my wheels turned, and I see so often where people are turned into the other lane.

Sorry that you've had this hassle to cope with, apart from the expense. Around here, we have no fault insurance. When I was in an accident and not judged at fault, my insurance paid for the write-off of my old car ('93 Ford Taurus). Paid me about what I'd bought it for, about 6 mos. previously. When I (evidently) ran the red light, as I was found to be at fault and ticketed, there was no compensation ... I had to suffer the loss of my car. Actually, I fixed it, at larger cost than it had cost me to buy it, about 6 mos. earlier, as it appeared, at about 120,000 mi., to have potentially quite a few good miles left in it and it seemed a waste to scrap it, though it was close to 20 years old. It costs a great deal of precious energy, plus adds to not only pollution but to global warming as well to build a new car for me (or the portion of its life that I'd use in an older model). Even if she had insurance, if she had no driver's licence, they likely would not have covered, in any event. The owner of the car had responsibility to ensure that only licensed drivers drove it - apart from it being stolen. When my friend the milk man wanted to go on holiday, with his son to drive the route, son had to upgrade driver's licence from, supposedly, permission to drive truck to one with air brakes. There was ice in the home when I visited, as it appeared that the son had only licence to drive a car, the Dad had given him the devil, the Mom was angry at Dad for hurting her son's feelings ... and found it hard to get her head around the fact that every time the son drove that truck out the lane unaccompanied by a properly licensed driver, he put at risk everything that they owned ... as the insurance company would not have covered any trouble. Actually ... I upgraded my truck licence to coverage for air brake and rode around sitting beside the son as he did the driving, or I drove the truck myself. ole joyful

DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR BODY OR WAIT A FEW DAYS TO SEE HOW YOU FEEL. Get to the emergency room immediately and have them check you out. Soft tissue injuries or internal injuries can take days or even months to manifest, but if you delay even a couple days the insurance companies will fight you tooth and nail later. If you have it looked at now, that officially establishes the onset date for any future claim you may have to file. Ask any lawyer and they will tell you it is much easier to prove a claim, even if you mediacally check out fine right now. Many insurance policies even have a clause that says you are not covered if the original accident was not seen by a doctor with an specified period of time, which is typically about 48 to 72hrs.

(((alisande))) Here, I'll make it the third one? Maybe. I was driving home the other day, and I had a blowout! Not just a flat tire. We heard BANG! and I said, what was that? He said maybe we ran over a rock? And then the car started to try to swerve. I did keep control and then I heard it--a flat tire. As I pulled over, it was smoking! Smelled like burned rubber to me, and it practically welded the tire to the axle?! What's worse? I just got the car in July (used, it's 18 years old) and I hadn't checked the spare to make sure it fit and was in good shape :O The equipment to change the tire didn't really fit or work well :( The jack would only turn a half turn at a time. The tire iron was too long? It kept hitting the ground. What was cool though? Someone else had fixed a flat in the exact same spot, and accidentally left a tire iron-that fit my bolts. I had another shorter tire iron, but it too, did not fit. So it took three tire irons, a lot of turning for the jack, and holding my breath for the tire to work. Yep, the tire turned out ok. I had planned to buy new tires next month, but now, I will have new tires this weekend. Two more days instead of two more weeks... hurray! Back to normal then. Whew. Now, we don't need a third car incident. How's that for closing the loop? Well, I tried!

A happy ending indeed. I'm glad you don't have to experience bad feelings about it now. But things like this teach us to be aware that cars are powerful forces. We need to be careful with them and keep them in good order. I saw something this summer in Yellowstone. We were all told to stay in the old lodge until a thunderstorm passed and the rangers gave the all clear. It was a merry scene with people talking, having cocoa and coffee. Kids were sitting in groups playing games. The fireplaces were crackling and people shared pictures on their phones and told stories. I went out on the upper deck where there were chairs under the eaves ( all soaked ) to see the hail storm with some others. We were watching lightning on the horizon moving toward the road that connects Norris with Old Faithful. I turned to look the other way and saw a man with a frame pack with a tiny child running for the hotel as a large bolt of lightning came down maybe a minivans distance from him. He then sprinted faster than a deer into the building as the whole place shook from the thunder causing people to silence. I won't forget the sound of that crack in the air or the large boom afterward. Being used to earthquakes, the building shaking didn't bother me. I'm so happy that man and child are safe.

I'm concerned about your bump on the head. Please consider going to the doctor about this today. Even if it doesn't hurt much, there could be internal bleeding.

How scary! Glad you are okay! Taking pictures is good idea in case there are any questions with insurance etc.

Make sure you take it easy today-you might feel banged up and achy later on!

Patti has it right. Even tho' you think you are ok, head bumps must be watched carefully. Therefore, you have an excuse to take it easy today. Take care.

this must be the time..i was rear-ended last week...

do take care of that bump...years ago when i was hit, it took several hours to feel all the aches and pains...

Oh my, I do hope you are OK! I agree - get the head bump checked out, especially if you get head and neck pain.
Take it easy for a few days, won't you? No hikes up Signal Hill!! The way that some people come roaring down that part of PC Road it's a wonder there haven't been more accidents there.

Glad you are OK! I think you were very smart to take pictures.

We were in a serious accident about 10 years ago and the officer that took pictures of the scene "accidently" (my thoughts) found that the pictures didn't turn out, I don't remember what it was. Those pictures would have made a big difference.

Again, take it easy for a while, and I hope you have no problems from it.

Glad you're okay. Those pictures will be very helpful to your auto insurance company. Main thing is, you weren't hurt.

Glad you were not seriously injuried.

Assert your rights. In many states, you are entitled to alternate transportation until your vehicle is repaired. Check with your insurance agent. They can be very helpful when the other driver is at fault.

Thank you everyone! My headache went away and I can only feel it when I touch it....no big lump. If the pain comes back I will get it checked out. I spent all afternoon on the phone with the insurance agent and trying to rent a minivan. No vans in the city to be had, but a good friend is loaning us his. He is a god-send. (we need a van because Joe is in a wheelchair, we can use portable ramps for the time being).

Taking pictures was a very wise thing to do. Even though you "think" you weren't injured, I'd still have the doctor check that bump. Sure glad it wasn't more serious and glad a friend will lend you a van.

Glad you're feeling okay now--hope that continues, but as others have said, stay on top of your health. DD was rear-ended about 5 years ago. She went to the ER and checked out okay (had X-rays, and everythinhg). But within a couple of weeks, she developed a herniated disk--she'll have pain and medical issues the rest of her life because of it. And it didn't show up right away.

Also--stop fighting with the insurance. You've got way too much on your mind to do that. Call your attorney first thing in the morning and let him handle your negociations. You'll do far better, and have much less stress. Having been through that mess with my DD? I'd say the best thing we did for her was to immediately hand everything over to our lawyer. She got much more than she would have on her own (even after his fees) AND we didn't have to deal with the insurance people/lawyers, etc from the other side. We didn't even open the letters and medical bills we got--just bundled them up and gave them to our lawyer. He was worth and earned every penny he got. I'd HIGHLY recommend you not wait to get in touch with yours. Much easier and cheaper for them to be handling things from the start, than to have to come in halfway through and straighten things out when they get in a tangle.
