Just stay indoors and drink plenty of fluids. Drink even when you are not thirsty. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

I wear long sleeved shirts and pants inside it is so cold and sit on the porch to get warm...100� everyday.
I happily spend the money for A/C I average around $180 a month

Are you keeping an eye on your blood sugar? I agree with the fluids, be sure you are drinking enough.

Heat does me in too. Maybe we should run away to Alaska. LOL!

we eat lighter and have more fresh fruit (ouch on sugar, i know) and have been making smaller meals...dh does get tired of salads, so tonight is a hot dish (made on stove top) chicken over rice...wish we had whole house air, but don't (ac in master, and lr)...we have this super powerful fan that if i angle it just right, cools office and kitchen...

Pammy, you have my complete sympathy; in fact, I'm feeling just as you say you are. I have no energy, don't want to cook or do much of anything else--like clean the house. My solution is to stay inside in A/C as much as possible--and long for October!

Aside for sitting in a cold tub of water during the hottest part of the day, or swimming pool, or kiddy pool. All only options for those of us who do not have to go to work. I drink ice water and then eat the ice. It helps for an hour or so after drinking. I also do not do anything strenuous. It cools down enough here for me at night that a ceiling fan and the ac work well enough. We're having triple digit weather here so the afternoons are impossible. Strange, strange weather we're having this year. I thought last summer was bad.

You can wet a light towel then drape it around your shoulders, so that it's touching the back of your neck. I feel for you! We are only in the high 70's today.

Minnie--$180 per month for keeping the AC on cold??? Consider yourself lucky because we'd probably pay three to four times that much.

I take iced water with me all the time. Even when I go to water aerobics. It's all melted by the end of class, but we do keep it poolside and take water breaks.

I am going to tell a tale out of school so to speak,,,LOL

while I was stationed at Blytheville Air Force Base in Blytheville, Ark I married a sweet young lass from Cleveland, Ohio. Having lived her whole life on the shores of Lake Erie she was accustomed to cool breezes off the lake in summer and she found life in a little one bedroom cottage in Arkansas in mid summer just a bit too much. Especially when you consider we had no AC and she had been a severe diabetic since early childhood.

Privacy at out little cottage was no problem because our house and front yard faced a 500acre cotton field, so to pass the hot afternoons Dana used to lay on the living room hardwood floor butt naked with a small fan blowing on her and spritz herself with a windex bottle full of cool water. One day, while doing that she fell asleep and as the sun slowly lowered in the west it slowly creeped in under the porch and through the screen door. By the time I arrived home from work at 8pm that night she had managed to sleep there in full sun until she had the worlds worst sunburn on her unmentionables.

To this day, every time I hear someone complain about the heat I remember that incident and think to myself, it really couled be much worse.....LOL

On the other hand, when its hot I also think back to winter time. When is the last time you had to get up early to shovel sunshine off the walk and driveway so you could get out in the morning??

I am like my mother and been doing this as long as I can remember.

Besides having the air conditioning on, plus ceiling fans, I have oscillating fan in my living room and in my bedroom for circulation.

My electric bill has been $88 all summer. I'm on budget and it dropped from $92 to 88 last month. Keep my daytime temps at 78, and turn off central at night. Turn on my window unit in bedroom, shut the door and go down to 61 for good sleeping.

Pammyfay, wear light weight, light colored, loose fitting clothes and stay hydrated. I like to open the windows at night and then close them all up, including the shades, come daylight. Fans help too, and stay out of the sun.

It's probably a combination of things. Not eating "right", possibly not getting enough hydration and depression will affect you too.

The other caution that is sometimes overlooked: If you're really getting dehydrated, water alone will not rehydrate you. Low fat milk and sport drinks can be better choices as they have sodium, protein, carbs and electrolytes that the body needs and uses to reabsorb fluids. I don't know of anyone here (including myself) who actually does a serious exercising like sports players in training camps, but in those cases water often won't do it. It just doesn't get absorbed. I was sipping water nonstop when I was dehydrated the last couple of times. This kind of weather is a serious health concern.

Summer or winter I still go outside and get some (semi) fresh air regularly. I think it helps but of course no clinical proof. Seems to affect how I feel. Moving around, getting out and going to work even helps so I happen to believe a change of air makes a difference. Although I can sure be outside a lot longer in the cold than in this sauna atmosphere.

Often a change of your routine can bother you. People often have a resistance to change so trying to keep your normal routine going as much as possible will likely help IMO.

Whether you go out to eat, get take out, have something delivered or find snacks you like, I am also convinced that when weather is bad it's important to eat. Yesterday and today I went out early and had a big breakfast. For me, that's my eating for the day. I'll be drinking fluids during the day. Now, with diabetes, a one-meal a day is not the best. Generally it's best to eat often. I suspect a connection between malnutrition and dehydration too. The doctors didn't dispute it either when I was in the hospital so like I said, there's a number of things that have impact.

Said it before and I'll say it again, I'll take 20ð over this any day. I've never received nor seen a case of severe sunburn in the winter. May not have to shovel snow, but there's always BS to be shoveled! ;)

Keep cool, calm, collected and hydrated.

A tub or inflatable pool filled with nice cool water. Get a book, a glass of something yummy and cold and lay back and relax for an hour. I have a small inflatable pool on the patio, but a bath tub full of cool water would do just as well. I find a long, cool soak really helps keeps me cool for a long time. If you don't have a tub or pool take a nice, long, cool shower, then sit and relax. It really refreshes me!!!

Eat light, maybe a little more often. Take Gatorade or Powerade and mix with water. Don't forget other juices, but you can dilute them also. Even if you are diabetic, juices are still good (DH is diabetic), ice tea etc. Wear hat to protect your head from the heat. Cool packs or wash cloth on back of neck helps.

When I golf and the temps are in the upper 90's or 100's I always bring some wet towels on ice with me. I throw a couple of pieces of mint in the bag along with the towel and ice water. Put the cold towel across your thighs and behind your knees. It brings the body temp down immediately. I don't have much of a problem with heat, but I always have the towels with me in case someone in my foursome has a problem. It has come in handy many times. Anyone who has ever golfed with me knows now how to get through a round of golf during a Virginia summer. Try it, you'll be amazed.
