Growing up my Dad always called me Sunshine.

My Mother was called Tip or Tipper by her family. She would get so mad at us kids if we called her that.

I had an uncle I called Grover. Dont know why, nobody else called him that.

I have an aunt everybody calls Tom. (??? Her real name isn't even close)

I call my step grandkids Bubby and Sissy.

I don't have one now, but when I was a kid my three brothers called me Donna Iguana. Dad called me "Last Word Lizzy". Neither are very complimentary, are they?

Mine is Charlie, my grandson, "Little Bit", a granddaughter "Anna bananna", another "Molly mooch".

Newhomeseeker, I love the nicknames you have for your kitties Some of my kitties have nicknames, but not all Crazy bipolar kitty living outside has lots of names. She used to be very skinny and missing lots of fur when she first showed up in the neighborhood...And when she would get in fights, her fur on the back would stand up, while she did not have much fur anywhere else. Hence, the nickname Mohawk Cat. She is also Skinny Cat and Psycho cat. Her name is Violet, and she is now a beautiful long hair chubby (spayed) girl. But she still gets to keep her nicknames My main cat in the house, Pixel, has lots of nicknames. She is gorgeous, a long hair black girl, with the attitude of a queen. So, she is Miss Pixel, Pixella and Pixelina (after Angelina) Prissy Miah is often called Mimi...I do not think she cares for Mimi though Then there is Mishka (Little Bear, in Russian), an overweight and rather sensitive male (19lb! , quite a lot for domestic shorthair) So now he is Fat Boy, Chubby or simply Chubbs. Foster kids are Fuzzies, Midgets, Fuzzy Butts, Sidekicks, Chipmunks, Silly kids, Ratlings, you name it When my kitties behave, they are all Babies, but when they get me mad - I call them "Rats!!!"

So many people with issues with parents...sad. I was loved, I had toys and gifts,dresses, dolls, books, sport stuff, games,I lacked for nothing . But as I got older, I think I tried to "recapture" my childhood. As an adult, I loved antique shows, flea markets, garage sales. Any time I saw something we had in our house growing up, I had to buy it. I even bought too many rose bushes and planted them in my garden, trying to re-create my Grandma's rose garden. I now have a linen closet stacked with doilies and tablecloths I'll never use, sets of fancy glasses too fragile to use, things like that. Oh, and on the funny side, my daughter cleaned out my bathroom just yesterday. She found eleven bottles of Listerine. I don't know, I hate the stuff, it burns... I remember buying one bottle because it did everything, whitens teeth, freshens breath, makes gums healthy, strengthens the enamel. I'm just always looking for something to make me happy.

Husband had a couple of nicknames for me when we were dating and in early married life but have forgotten what they were. lol He just calls me by my given name these days. He never liked his first name and goes by his middle name, Richard and that's what I call him but his friends all call him Rich, I never have. We do have some nicknames for our kids. Firstborn son, Kody, was called 'sonshine' for several years, ages 2-5, for his happy ways but that faded with time and he's now just Kody and is 52 years old. Middle daughter, Kandra Sue's nicknames are Kankan or Susie and she doesn't mind, celebrating her 50th birthday tomorrow. The funny one is our youngest daughter, Kyla. When just a tiny baby she would make the funniest little squeaking noises and we started calling her 'mouse'. She's now 46 and we still call her 'mouse' and sometimes her husband calls her that as well. Many years ago when she was on the swim team and swimming in some of her first meets at the age of 3-1/2 to 6 we would be yelling 'go mouse go' when she was in her lane and people would look at us like we were nuts. :) BTW she won her first ribbon in the age group 6 and under at the age of a couple months before turning 4, and swam backstroke at that time as she didn't like putting her face in the water. :)

Pop used to call me Suzie Lizzie....later in high school I was ACK, shortened from my last name, and I'm tall, therefore bigack!

Bigack....I've always wondered how your moniker came to be, and what it meant. Glad I read this thread! :)

Years ago I had surgery and had some tubes in for drainage. They were in my neck. My then hubby said I looked like Frankenstein, so he called me Frankie for quite a while afterwards.

well mine is pretty obvious, Raven, due to my raven black hair and that comes from my Cajun heritage so RavenCajun. Over the years it has had its variations from Rave, to Ravenous, to RC etc.

My nickname was Dottie because I was so small when I was born. 4-2, My Grandpa said I was no bigger'n a dot, so I was Dottie or Dotty, depending who was spelling it. my Brother was always called Bunky, I don't know why and my Sis, Theresa...Tessie when she was little, but for some reason my kids called her Puppy. Now she's Terrie. My first son was called,,,Get em' because he always wanted someone to chase him and get em'. Second son was always big for his age and Hubs called him tiger, which got shortened to Tag, and daughter was always her Daddy's Peach so she was Peaches for a lot of years. I like this post, I think (for the most part) nicknames are terms of affection.

I was always called Sis...still am by my brothers and their families. Everyone else calls me Dottie.

DH calls me sunshine, always has. My kids used to call me Honey, still do when they want something. My oldest has started calling me Big Momma D.
My dad always called me Sug. Hmmmm I don't actually know how to spell it. It's sugar shortened. Shoog?
I'm Dani to a lot of people. Auntie Dani to DB's kids. And when my Grandparents were still alive, I was Dani Honey.

In the 60's in the Bay Area it was common for people to have nicknames. I was given mine when I was around 12 but it followed me into the era. So much so that I would be recognized in certain circles where ever I went. Once even when I was visiting in Hawaii. It was like having a passport. Opened a lot of doors. Got me into places like concerts etc. More than once I'd overhear people talking about me. Once a person asked me if I knew me. LOL Pure poppycock and I found it quite amusing that my reputation was so much bigger than I was. LOL

I gave up the nick around the time I met DH. Very few people are alive today that know it and I keep it that way.

Interestingly it is a very common nick today but during that era it was mine.

My husband and some of her Aunties still call my 16 year old step-daughter, Emi-doo because that's what she used to say all the time when she was little and wanted to do things for herself.... Emi DO!

LOL it wasn't a nickname that stuck, but when my late son, Brian was about 5, someone asked him what his name was and he said, O'Brian. I guess it came from being a 'trying' child and Mom said in exasperation...Oh, Brian!

Being Canadian I probably wouldn't recognize it/you anyway, so it'll be our little secret :-)
