I remember this murder. Lovely young girl, a camp counselor, went for a walk on her morning off and was reading a book, as I recall, when she was attacked. This sort of thing is so unusual for our area. I'm so glad the State Police kept on it.

I believe the suspect is a son of the opera singer. From the newspaper's website (complete with appalling number of spelling and grammatical errors):

Wayne County District Attorney Michael Lehutsky announced at a press conference, Friday morning, that an arrest has been made of a man suspected in the murder of Laura Ronning in 1991.

Taken into custody in Onley, Virginia, was Jeffery J. Plishka, age 46, who was an originnal suspect in the initial investigation. Ronning, a 24 year old Florida resident, was a camp cousnelor at Camp Cayuga in July of 1991. She was accosted during morning walk at Tanner's Falls, a wooded isiolated area north of Honesdale. She was raped and murdered by a single gunshot to the head.
