Something weird....kind of long

My daughter had to return her leased car...

She bought a new car about a month ago...(remember...I posted that they hit a deer with her new car..)

The leased car had to be turned in last week.

She has been really stressed about what they might have to pay for getting the new car fixed. The repairs have gone from 10 thousand to 17 thousand. and half the work has already been done or I think they would total it.

When you lease a car they check it all out when it is returned and you have to pay for repairs..

Well...she scraped, dented it backing out of the garage, it had stains on the seats (always hauling kids), broke the jack, and a few other small things.

She said she has really been praying that the bills won't be too high because of all the things that have been happening.

Yesterday she got the "bill" on the leased car. It was blank...so she called to see how much she owed. They said she owed nothing and in fact they were sending her a check for 250.00. and that the car was in great shape.

She checked online and the pic. of her car looked fine...she thought maybe it was just the pic. so she drove over to look at it...

The car looks like a brand new one...no scratches,no dent, no stains...and yes it was the same car.

What is your take on that???

Patti, I would have to think that her prayers were answered. And too, that the lease company is being fair. I've leased cars thru my business for nearly 30 years, the condition on the return is subjective, but they expect normal wear and tear. A scrape, a stain or two, even a minor ding are often overlooked. Scrapes can be buffed out, stains are cleaned up. I have never had a charge on return when I have relinquished a vehicle.

They really should have done a checkup while she was present and given her a form at that time. Did they do so?

You really have to ASK? LOL...I'd say Someone gave her a YES to her Prayers!!!

I go down the road and across the river to a nice wooded area. I hope they don't bother anyone else and being in the city, there areen't a lot of gardens around here. "City" being a relative term. We are 3 miles from the center of Bangor (36,000 folks) but have an easment and then woods behind us so we also have lots of wildlife. This time of year we see wild turkeys almost every day, and deer frequntly ( yesterday as I was taking the dog for a walk about 4 feet from us three deer crashed through the yard and across to the woods--Katy got very excited) In summer in addition the the woodchucks, squirrels, and chipmunks we see racoons, skunks, and once a fox and once two young moose were in the street. My next door neighbor had a bear take his bird feeder.

While DOM may make some sellers/builders a little more anxious to negotiate maybe offer some builder incentives, if the price is in line with comps you might find the seller willing to wait until the home buying season to rev up again shortly, about the time you are ready to make your offer in fact.

Tinker, I love the new set but the old set is my favorite. I have a Canadel set that is 7 yrs old with matching bars stools. Have never been crazy about it and the table scratches easily which I was assured it would not. I felt like I had to keep this set because I thought it was expensive, but I think I will justify getting rid of it soon as well. Your house is just lovely! You have done a terrific job creating a cottage feel.

You said it's been a week between when she turned it in and when she went to see it so they may have buffed it and removed the stains during that time. I imagine they want to get a fast turn around on the inventory so other people could rent it out. Did she ask whether they worked on it? I guess it's possible a divine being took out the scratches but I'm more inclined to think it was the workers. :) I'm glad to hear she didn't have a big bill though. I know how much of a relief that can be!

No it hasn't been a whole week...I can't remember when she took it in for sure. I know Denny followed her over to bring her back.

I know they didn't give her anything that told her how much when she took it over.

And CB...I know it was prayer. I've seen what prayer can do.
This daughter is the mother of my grandson Brad who was born with a kidney that didn't grow or function. Was told to never let him play contact sports. Then when they were doing one of his yearly check ups (when he was about 7-I guessing..memory is older than I feel) the kidney had grown to catch up with the other one and was a functioning kidney.

The key to it is "you have to believe"...it's called "faith"

Well, you could find out for sure if you call them and ask if they did anything to it. But I guess there's comfort in believing it's an answered prayer? :) I don't know, I'm not really religious. I'm more inclined to believe rational explanations but I'm glad made both of your days a little brighter. That's the most important thing.

It is amazing what a dealership can do with a car. Scratches can be buffed - small dents can be pulled out. The have suction type cups to do this - or can drill a small hole and insert a tool and pull out the dent, then repair the small hole. We hit a deer with one of the cars - and the damage wasn't bad - just a ding and some scuffed paint. In half a day at the dealers bodyshop it looked like new!~

They really do some terrific work on the interiors too - I had a spot on the carpet of my car that nothing would take out. The dealership used something and you cannot tell anything was ever there! Amazing! And it only took a short time for them to do it.

So good to hear things went well for your DD's car - yea! Sometimes things just have to work in your favor!

We rented a car in Utah. As we were heading over a mountain, we were hit by a hailstorm. Then we came across roads that were just gravel. I was scared to death that the car would be damaged by the gravel so I got out and took a look at the car. It looked like someone had sanded the bottom. We never heard a word about the hail damage. I think the companies expect normal wear and tear and the price of the cars reflect that. That car was the most expensive one we ever rented.

My take on it is the same as yours Patti. I'm so glad she didn't have one more thing piled on her right now. Now I almost believe there's such a thing as an honest car dealership. Many are not.

Well, I hardly think it was divine intervention, although if that's what you wish to believe, it's fine with me.

The stuff you describe is "normal wear and tear". She had an honest leasing company.

Mary C is correct - the stains, dings etc were considered normal wear and tear.

Believe me - leasing companies are not in thr business to do anyone favors! She must have taken good care of the car while she had it.
