Is It Too Hot For Any of You to Be Baking Today?

It is plenty hot here today, but outside, 97. My kitchen is 70 right now and I have the oven on. I am baking some cornbread. Will give some to Amber's and I will keep some.

I also baked up another Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie and have the pork barbecue simmering. I still have some other kitchen jobs to do today. How about you, what are you doing?

Well, nowhere near what you do, but I actually have blueberry muffins in the oven. I don't usually do muffins but blueberries were only 99 cents a pint and I couldn't resist. Air conditioning is on!

I don't go near the oven when it's hot out. We have AC, but still, no. I'll prob. make a jello cheesecake or something cold like that.

hey t hanks for the encouragement on the fountain. I've always like these two little blue pots and never knew what to do with 'em. not I really like the water running over the edge of both. I also really like "alley cat blues". It was an extra from Marietta's and isn't it funny how you'll get an extra and you didn't realize you would like it so much? sometimes the extras I get are just stuck in dirt until the next club daylily sale. and other times. KEEPERS! so far Midnight SMoke RIngs and the Alley Cat BLues are my favorite extras I got that I was so glad to have. anyway thanks for the comments. I got to get back outdoors and move some sprinklers etc etc

My son said he was listening to his satelite radio afew days ago and heard a station in Iowa giving instructions on how to cope with the heat the next day. The recommendation was to drink plenty of water and stay in doors if you could because the temp was expected to be between 92 and 94 degrees with a heat index of over a 100. Poor hawkeyes! According to my electronic weather stations, of which I have 3 of, my heat indexes top 120 to 129 every single day. My house is surrounded by large oak trees of which I have read can expire up to 300 gals. of water aday and we all know that moist air holds more heat than dry air. I have a small creek just to the west of my house and my neighbor has a pond about 200 ft. to the south of my house. Add all these things together and and I have heat indexes of 124 on average, every single day. This spring I planted 100 pine trees of which I've lost 15 so far. Ive lost 3 blueberries and one Northstar cherry and a Mars grape. Every morning im up before daylight wondering in which direction do I water today and please Lord don't let the well motor go out. The Rose of Sharon hedge row has yellow leaves but the crape myrtles out by the front fence are wilting and please God dont let me forget the watermelons in the garden or the birdhouse gourds that wilt every single day and oh my gosh I forgot the blackberries. I know I'm not alone in this. Everyone reading this has the same problem. GOD help us all. And now that ive had my morning whine, i'm off to water. I hope we all get a nice rain soon.

Although it seems like a forgiving dough - I can taste that I cheated on the overnight ferment. Sorry your casserole dishes aren't big enough. I bake in a toaster oven so when my bread rises it burns on top. Another reason P a L'A is good - it spreads out more than up. I brush the bread with some slightly salty water right before it goes in the oven. But I lose that lovely floury rustic surface. Do you have a pizza stone? That helped me get a better crust back when I last had an oven - now I use it in my grill to make pitas. Also I read somewhere or another about using a SS restaurant dish lid as a cloche though I've never seen one large enough. I am currently jealously watching a neighbor build a stone wood-fired bread oven by his pond - the ultimate bread oven. He says he will advise me when I am ready to build one - and I definitely do not lack for rocks. However right now my 'yard' is festooned with logs, brush and firewood piles. Hopefully in the near future the logs will become a woodshed and I can move the firewood inside. Then maybe a bread oven - which will entail moving rocks. I'm tired just thinking about it all. Making some tea and toast and taking a nap.

golly, Julia.I wish you could, too.Its been so hot here this week. 95 yesterday with a heat index of 103.I told my daughter yesterday sure hope we not fixing to have another summer like we had a few years ago, when it got to 112 degrees,have no idea what the heat index was that year, but, it was so very hot.I wonder how the folks in arizonia survived the heat they get every year . A few years ago, my uncle and aunt sold out and moved from Illinois to Arizonia to get away from the cold and snow every winter..They only stayed a few months out there till thy sold out again, and moved back to Illinois.He said he would take the snow any day, rather then that h eat out there.he said to go out for a evening drive, you go north one day, then go south the next day, to keep one side of you from getting too burnt. You brown one side one day, then brown the other side the next day.said he will never complain about the snow and cold again.

We're invited to a backyard barbecue and my lemon bundt cake was requested. I made it first thing this morning.

I have to bake bread, and I'll make sure I get it started very early in the morning.

It was 34C yesterday, and 29-30C today, which actually feels comfortable!

Yes, it's way too hot to bake.

BUT I'm having company for lunch tomorrow, so did bake a cheesecake this morning (while boiling some chicken, as well). My kitchen isn't AC'd. Now I'm holed up in the living room with the room AC, and will probably be here the rest of the day. DH even brought me my lunch! (he's so afraid I'll have a kidney stone attack because of the heat).

Yes, it is too hot. The house is cool, but the idea of baking makes me hot :-) I am going to turn it on later to make biscuits.

Isn't sugar cream pie the official pie of Indiana? Florida's is key lime, but I'm not crazy about either of them.

Pleasant and cool in coastal Southern California so far. Our summer seems to run a month late, with the hottest Santana conditions usually in September. So if I were inclined to do so, I would bake today. But in the Santana hot windy weather, I avoid heating up the kitchen.

No way! My kitchen doesn't have A/C so I have been eating cold meals or something that can go in the microwave.

Too hot to heat the oven...ugh. Bad enough I had to break down and do a load of laundry and then turn the dryer on (low heat). Hung the towels outside on the line tho, they were dry in two shakes.

What I love here on the beautiful central coast of California is our climate.....never too hot or too cold.
But we complain when it gets below 40 or over 90......not too often.
