Fennel is a great suggestion. It is a pretty and "airy" plant. The caterpillars that visit my fennel are the eastern black swallowtail - the picture below is of one such caterpillar on my fennel. Fennel is short-lived but asparagus is another "airy" herb plant that is very long-lived and needs little care. Berries of all types are great suggestions. If you are planning a garden for wee ones, take some care with elderberries. Only the *completely* ripe fruit and flowers are edible. The rest of the elderberry (incl. the unripe berries) is toxic. Howdy Folks, I just read all of the comments on this thread and I can honestly say there is a huge point folks are missing when it comes to the perspective of any white or off-white color. Whites are often difficult because we aren't completely aware of how they are effected by variables such as... Other whites, other colors, and lighting. Let me explain. When it comes to Benjamin Moore's OC-17 White Dove, the color pigments often utilized in the majority of their paint bases are Y3(Oxide Yellow) & S2(Gray). The balance of these colors are combined at a particular fraction to make the color which results in them balancing each other out whilst adding a bit of depth because many customers often express the disliking for "bright psych-ward whites" such as OC-65 Chantilly Lace. White Dove's balance often results in just a soft white without being too this or too that BUT like any other off-white color... White Dove will have exaggerated undertones in the presence of Whiter colors whether it be your ceiling color, trim color, OR the presence of some kind of White furniture/decor within the room that is being painted. When whites are brought together they compete, and when whites compete they exaggerrate their differences within the scope of the human eye. The best analogy I can use to help explain this is the white napkin analogy. When we brush our teeth and smile in the mirror we are often satisfied with the end result being our teeth are clean and white, however if we were to immediately place a white napkin next to our teeth, the perspective would change because the white napkin's placement next to our teeth would show how our teeth are not as white we thought they were based on the initial perspective. They often look more yellow or dingey next to the whiter napkin. This is what happens with the pairing of white/off-whites. So if you're experiencing too much yellow with your White Dove or any off-white, here is the best advice that can completely shift the perspective and even completely solve the issue. Rule 1 : There can only be ONE white/off-white to avoid competition. If a white of some kind is in the room then make sure it is all the same white. So when I paint White Dove on the walls, make sure it is also on the Trim, doors, and Ceilings. This will create uniformity, thus diminishing the competitive contrasts and making it look immensely less yellow. It is encouraged to change the sheen/finish based on the application to provide a more subtle and elegant contrast such as Eggshell on walls, Flat on ceilings, and semi-gloss on trim. Just make sure whoever is tinting them at the store makes sure they all match in tone. Rule 2: Make sure there are no unwanted blues, greens, reds, or mainly purples within the area. All of these colors mentioned, especially purple, will pull out yellow due to the laws of color science. If they are in your decor, or flooring they can heavily influence what your eyes see. TLDR : Whites do not go together often due to their lack of depth contrast which often results in color competition or the exaggeration of unwanted undertones such as yellow. If you have White Dove up on your walls and it appears too yellow... paint your trim and ceilings the same color to alleviate the off putting tone your eyes are being forced to see because of the comparison. If it is still yellow after that then there is another variable within that room that is either pulling yellow tones out of the White Dove or reflecting yellow tones onto the off-white's surface. OR the color is just not for you.

Been a while since I checked this forum but this thread reminded me of how I saved a marriage. In 2002 friends of mine moved from Illinois to Florida. The home they built in FL was ready but the home in IL was still on the market. SO they moved anyway hoping the IL house would sell quicly. Most of their posessions were moved but some furniture was left in the old house for staging. Months later the house sold and the husband flew back to IL to pack up and move what was left. The small U-Haul he rented was not quite big enough so he weeded out what he thought was unimportant (basement furniture, odd pieces in the garage, etc.). The day after he put those items out on the curb, I went by on trash day doing my weekly "Pearl diving" (my kids call it garbage picking). I took home a square game table about 20" square with a swivel top. Needed to be refinshed and I was in the process of packing for a move to Florida so I put it in my basement. That table made it to Florida in 2003 and then moved back to IL in 2005 when I moved back. Never did get it refinished. Anyway - was talking to the guy who threw it out ( we all remained friends thru the years and emailed each other regularly) and he was telling me that he and his wife were having marital problems since their move from IL. He said she had never forgiven him for throwing out her Aunt's table - it was the only thing she had to remember her favorite Aunt. Well guess who had that table? I had the extreme pleasure of telling him that I had it and he could pick it up on his next visit back to IL. You would have thought I pulled him from a burning building - which I guess is what he felt like. Needless to say he made the trip to IL in record time and table is safely back in his home. Neat story huh?

re: adellabedella_usa I have ordered a DNA test in December, 2017. Results are expected soon. I ordered "family finder" (autosomal) and" Y-DNA 37". The FamilyFinder is good for discovering relatives up to 2 to 3 generations away. Beyond that, positive matches thin out too much to be very relevant. The Y-DNA is the male chromosome trace and that can go back much farther. The Y-DNA 67 marker was available, but I had reached my Birthday gift limit. What I need to find out is how much Scotch & Irish is in my background and if there is any Native American. There are a few anecdotal family stories that need checking out. I suspect one tale is just that, a tale, and another statement by my mother that we are largely Scotch/Irish may be that she did not know all the facts. So far, I have documented one Scot and one Welsh with strong suspects of English women in my background. There are so many other loose ends in my history that I can only guess at my genetic makeup. I do have my grandmother's line (on my father's side) traced back to the Franklin(s) of Acton, England, and that was near the time when the spelling of FrankLine (land holder) streamlined to Franklin. That Franklin witnessed his father hanged for being a Presbyterian after which, he decided to try life in the colonies.
