Time to head out (vacation time)

Almost every Summer I go backpacking for a week in the Bighorn mountains of Wyoming. Usually my sons go with me. They're in their late teens and early 20's and that makes me the "old man" who has trouble keeping up with the young whipper snappers. I've learned to carry the map with me and that way when they get to a fork in the trail they have to wait for me to catch up so they know which way to go.

Now, the kids have had the nerve to go and get all grown up on me and get lives of their own. They are all busy with other stuff this Summer. Early Monday morning 2 friends of mine, my brother, Joel, (from the greenhouse) and I will be heading for the mountains of Wyoming. This year I'm the "kid" at age 52. Joel is 55, Roy is in his late 60's and Bill is 78! What was I thinking? We'll be carrying packs that weigh 30 to 35 pounds and hiking 5 to 9 miles a day at elevations of 9,000 to 11,000 feet. Bill is a very young 78 and he's been working out on the treadmill since February to get in shape for this trip.

Here are a few pictures from previous trips to give you an idea of the country we'll be in.

Bill and Roy are fishermen so we hope to supplement our meals with some trout.

Some of the waterfalls are beautiful. That's my son Jason in the upper left part of the picture.

Someplaces it gets pretty rugged.

Another waterfall.

A pristine alpine lake.

Think good thoughts for us this coming week.

Thanks.

Ron
