Treasure, good way to phrase it. I have been into genealogy for at least a dozen years. I have the privilege of having my parents until late middle age, but not having lived in proximity of my extended family for most of my life, knew precious little about them aside from disjointed snippets of my folk's recollections. There was a void I needed to fill. I can only imagine how it must have affected you and of course it was emotional. Copy those pictures as quickly as possible and share them with every relative you know. When I used to go to auctions, there were often boxes of family photos in the mix to be lost forever. There are also people who keep family photos to themselves and won't share, thinking they'll be safe forever. It only takes one generation down the line for them to be lost. My cousin out west and I had both started on a crusade to contact as many cousins and distant relatives as possible and get copies of photos they may each have in their possession and make them available in digital format to any of our kin. The more they're shared, the better chance they have of being preserved for posterity. I'm so happy for you.

Ok, I'm looking at this differently.. Sometimes mature adults do need someone to 'help them' This is not a teenager who is going to do the opposite that mom or dad tells them. At least I hope not. I have a guy friend who is in a mess with a woman and I am absolutely shocked that no one in his family "cares" enough to tell him how they feel. My friend is in his late 20's and I think he thinks what he is doing must be ok because his family never says antyhing. I think a little comment or discussion from them would works wonders. Even if he wants to act like it's not their business, I think he needs, and in the long run, would appreciate their concern and guidance. A 24 year old is mature enough in some ways.. but maybe not be so mature and worldly in many things. I find no fault into talking to your son about this. Now, there's a difference between talking/discussing and sermonizing. But if his relationship gets serious, pointing out the fact that he may possibly be responsible for the daughter if the mother's gets sick or killed, etc.. (I don't know wher the father is but I would guess at that young age that he's maynot be around at all). Explaining that children always come first and that braces trump trips, etc may not be a bad idea too. I can't imagine a 24 year old has any idea what he is getting into. I really think some guidance/education from his parents would be ok. And I think them staying totally out of it is the wrong route. If he's not mature to have a discussion with his parents about this, then he's difinately not mature enought to be a parent figure to a teenager. And, that's a huge problem for everyone involved.

Ok. Ik that this is like 10 years late but I'm 15 and I am dating a 13 year old boy that is about to turn 14 in August. There is nothing wrong with either of us. The reason I like him is because he has been my friend for a while and we just became really close and now we are together. Idk how mature I am but all my friends like him and my mom is absolutely fine with it and is super supportive. His parents are also okay with the age difference. My aunt was reading through this and told me that they should get feedback from the perspective of someone actually in this situation so I made an account just to comment on this. We really like each other and tomorrow is our 7 month anniversary so we have been together for a while. We like each other and that is all that matters. We also respect each other and have boundaries and we make sure that we are both ready for everything that we do. So anyone that sees this give kids a chance because you never know, it could end up lasting their whole life or being a heartbreak(but either way they will have ally more broken hearts). People say that they don't know what a girl could see in a boy that much younger but he is nice, respectful, cute, funny, polite, honest, mature, athletic, smart, he has pretty eyes, a good kisser, caring, encouraging, supportive and over all a good person. So anyone out there that thinks it is bad is stupid because clearly every situation is different with different people but some of them are good and good things come out of it when others are bad. But it is still possible to have a good, fun, and healthy relationship at this age with a gap in the ages. Give people a chance cause you only live once and you never know until you try cause we plan to be together forever and idk if it's really gonna happen but it might and if it does then all of this drama and debate was worth it in the end and I hope this helps at least one person cause I took time and effort to write this. Ugggghhhhh idk why people jump to conclusions about things. It's so annoying and it makes me so mad because I am personally in a situation like this and people can't say anything about it until they have been in the persons shoes and knows how they feel and what they are thinking so just think about it and give people a chance. Not all age differences are a bad thing and if it doesn't work out then it's just another lesson learned and you can move on with life because no matter what the ages of peopl in a relationship are there will be some good ones and some bad ones to follow so F off all you haters and judgers.

A recently learned tip: plan longer for electrical than you thought. In our case, we were updating from a 1970 basic (very basic AKA mostly inadequate even for 1970) lighting plan to 4" recessed cans, a new fan, pendants, replacement outlets (not moved, just new), and GFIs. We also added a light switch at the garage entry (why didn't we always have one there?) and moved a couple of outlets that were badly placed. We added a fan control switch on the wall so I don't have to lean over the table and stand on tippy toes to reach the pull cord. The electrician also moved some wiring from one circuit to another as the entire kitchen and adjoining bedroom were on one 15 amp circuit. There was one 20 amp circuit which was only being used by the dishwasher. Who knew? As I was replacing the umpteenth drywall patch, I was thinking we should have perhaps just taken out all the drywall to start with and replaced it with new when we were done! Probably not really, but we now have a lot of patches. I've gotten pretty good at the patch thing. The electrical was the big thing we couldn't do ourselves. We had the electrician all day Saturday, a long day, and Mon., Tues., and Wed. afternoon/evening for about 4 hours each day. Before things can move on, all those patches have to be done, redone, and sanded before the walls can be primed, which needs to be done before...you get the idea. Clearly I never seriously considered the amount of work involved to make all that nice, and safe, lighting happen. Allow adequate time for this step if you also have a big upgrade.
