Why Not Freeze Your Credit Rating?

We did this many years ago as an identity theft precaution. It's been no problem at all. If we need to let someone access our credit history, a phone call and a password to one of the three credit rating services manages that. They can 'unfreeze' for any amount of time you wish. They can even open the report only to a specified inquirer.

Maybe lots of people do this; I don't know. Are there reasons NOT to do this?
