I Got Some Good Deals Today!

I am going though my closet and getting rid of some of my old clothes. I bought myself 11 brand new tops with tags and two pair of pants for $.50 each. I also bought 3 fleece brand new jackets for $1.00 each. Two hard cover big cook books, Taste of Home each for $.50. Twelve waffle weave no slip place mats for $.10 each. I am going to put those under my foam topper to help keep it in place along with the shelf lining I have under there. Amber and I had so much fun! That is the only sale we went to. A really nice, I think Fireking yellow cookie jar for $2.00. It has yellow and red fruit painted on the side. A good collectible. I just love going to her sales! Anyone else been out and about going to any sales?

haha, thanks, taureau. Thanks, Sammy. I have a couple of photography websites I go to and read up on how-to's and such. I subscribe to 2 photography magazines. I also browse bookstores and camera stores for instructional books, and have about 5 or 6. I just bought one Saturday that I'm excited to have, and can't wait to give a try - it's about classic Hollywood portraits (from the 20's through the 50's) and how to set up the same lighting. My daughter has picked out a picture of Norma Shearer that she wants me to try to duplicate: photographer George Hurrell and I found one of Vivien Leigh that I want to try with her: photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull Wish me luck! haha Sis

I wish I could help you, but they are being made locally. I am in New Brunswick (Canada), so its probably not local to you. The cab maker told me he has had a hard year for business (likely due to the economy) so I think he might be giving me a break to get some work. I have heard some really good things about his work. He has been doing this for 25 years so I feel good about him!

Thanks. I was really excited when I spotted that "fishtail". They had several Rubras and one Chelsea mixed in the bunch. I took a chance with the other one hoping it might be Hoya but it's pretty just the same. They were all marked down to $9.99 because the water in the garden shop was turned off and they were dry as a bone and the soil was hard as a rock. The Chelsea needed a little help too as it must have fallen over at one point and no one fixed it. Half the pot had barely any soil and the other half had so much soil the cuttings were coming out. They held on as the soil was so dry and hard. It certainly proves how hardy the Carnosa family is. The only down side of these plants were that I found 2 stink bugs in the lipstick plant. This is why I quarantine and go over every inch of any new plant I get. i read fishtails are hard to keep alive. Any special tips that would help me? I love the DS-70's but manage to lose stems because the is moist/wet on the meter yet the leaves seem to dry up. All my Carnosa varieties (publicalyx) are thriving. Thanks again.

You did great ! I saw an ad for a garage sale July 11. I'm planning to go and will let you know what I get. Last year I got some great old cookbooks, and a brand-new shower curtain and iron.

There were only 8 Garage Sale adds in the paper for today, so I didn't bother. People around here take "Going To The Lake" very seriously for Independence Day!

Those were some really great deals you got!

Didn't go today. I usually wait until Friday. There's not a lot listed in the paper for tomorrow, but it only takes one GOOD one! LOL

Spent most of the day cleaning up and loading the stuff that I have to take to the flea market booth.

Sounds like you're ready for stylin' and profilin'! You did good!

I am going to bed early so I can go out again in the morning with Amber. Yes, it only takes one good sale to make me happy! Hope you all have some good sales to go to soon.

I scan Craigslist for garage sales daily. Some are great. Some are not. Craigs allows the person to list almost all the items they are selling and you can get a "feel" for a sale before driving all the way to get to it. I have found that if they list a lot of baby clothes and toys they are not going to have a lot of furniture and housewares or any 'collectibles'. I never find my size in clothing at a garage sale. I have great luck finding clothing at Goodwill though.
