the Miss Julia books by Ann B. Ross? I bought the first 7 apparently there 10 in the series. I got hardcovered, large print for a buck a piece at a book sale at the Heritage Days I went to yesterday in our town. I hope they are good. They look like they might be an easy read funny mystery.

I've read them, Kitty. You're right - they are a fast, easy read but with a good story line and enjoyable and believeable characters. I enjoyed them very much - a nice break from some of the more "serious" books we do in book club.

If you enjoy the Miss Julia books, you might want to try the Ladies of Covington series by Joan Medlicott.

Yes! I've been reading the Miss Julia books for several years and they are delightful if you like light and funny with some side-splitting "Southern Expressions" thrown in. Reminds me of the way my Mom and my aunts talked. Enjoy!

It is a true story. The original title is Au nom de tous les miens. The sites that claim it is fiction are usually "historical revisionists" ie Holocaust deniers. Here is a link that might be useful: Martin Gray's official website

Thank you for the suggestions. Merryworld, I have a hold for the Kindle copy of the first Flavia De Luce book, and I'll check on the No. 1 Ladies Detective agency. Carolyn_ky, the library has some of the Charles Todd books and one is available so I have made a request. I've been making the library my first stop for books lately. I noticed that the number of new books and magazines are diminishing, so I am supporting all I can.

Thanks, Ocotillo. When you said you were reading them with appropriate English accents, it brought back memories of me reading the first two Harry Potter books years ago. I bought them in England when they were yet unheard of here in the US, and that is how I read the whole series. As soon as I finish my current book, I’ll go for it. I haven’t found anything else that seems worthy recently.

OH!!
Do you mean they're a series??? Ohmygosh, I just finished reading one and laughed so much!! I could hardly believe it, because ordinarily I do not read that type fiction at all. Hubby and I were browsing the books at a thrift shop and that was placed on a tabletop, looked "different", so I decided to give it at try, and am so glad I did!!
I want to read more!:)
It was so funny, and Miss Julia's definitely a hoot!!

thanks for posting this thread!
