Frozen waffles. My kids eat them almost every morning and can do it themselves. They each make them when they get up and I do not have to be involved. Independence and very little mess-- gotta like that!

Canned beans are helpful compared to soaking overnight.

Frozen vegetables.

Washed, chopped lettuce--but I rarely buy it because it's too expensive.

Bottled salad dressing.

Boneless chicken.

Salsa in the jar.

Most of us use these foods all the time, but to me they are convenience foods because they save on preparation.

Gee until Socks mentioned her list, I never thought of them as being convenience food. I was going to say that we don't eat convenience food, cause in my mind they are the frozen meals in a box type stuff, and rice and pasta in pouches, etc etc. which we don't eat.

But I agree with Socks, I eat those as well.

I just thought of something. I buy the big bag of packaged pancake mix at Costco. Krusteaz. It's wonderful. Making from scratch intrigues me, and I've seen some good-looking recipes, but at $7 for a large bag, I figure it's not worth taking the chance they don't turn out.

There are a lot I could name, but probably one that I use most is bread. Ketchup is another, really just about everything you buy except produce is a convience, and that can be too if you think well I could have grown it and picked and gotten it ready to eat.

Can you imagine making your own mayonnaise whenever you wanted a sandwich?? Yikes.

I use it for:

creamed potatoes.

Butig (sp?) brand wafer meat, a couple hard boiled eggs and some cooked peas, stirred into prepared gravy mix and served over biscutes, toast or mashed potatoes,

Cream soups, like corn chowder, seafood chowder, chicken wild rice or potato.

Served over sausage & biscutes.

I would have said waffle mix and canned vegetables, but after reading all the replies I realize I use a lot of convenience foods... canned soups, frozen pizzas, mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.

I love the Tuna Helper Tetrazinni or however it's spelled. I don't put tuna in it (ewwwwwww), I put chicken in it. You know...the roasted ones from the deli? I also add onion, red, yellow or orange bell pepper...yum! Sometimes I add sweet Italian sausage. I make it with less water and more milk...sometimes cream. It is really good doctored up.

That's the first thing that comes to mind.

Contessa restaurant quality meals--dinner in a bag. They're pricey but I wait for them to go on sale. Once they were on sale and had $2 off coupons so I paid $2.99 and stocked up. They're great if you don't feel like cooking. Last night we had the chicken stir-fry. Lots of chicken with broccoli, water chestnuts, carrots, mushrooms and baby corn in a sauce. They cook in about 8-9 minutes. The Paella is the best we've one tried. Delish!

Frozen French fries. Ever made FF's from scratch, from whole potatoes? Wash, peel, cut, cook in oil (twice). It's so much work, when you can just dump a couple handfuls of fries on a baking sheet.

Milk...my days of milking cows are over.

I like the bags of frozen shrimp and/or chicken dinners too. They cook in 10 minutes. It's a great way to use up bits of leftover chicken. I always bolster the fish or meat by adding more. That plus a roll or salad and you've got something tasty for dinner.

I suppose just about everything in my fridge, freezer or cupboards is a 'convenience food' compared to time before canned goods. Heck, *butter* is a convenience food! (I have a print of my mother at a churn when she was about six years old -- around 1910.)

Bertolli's frozen pasta with sauce. The shrimp with linguini is great, also the three kinds of ravioli with garlic sauce. I keep one in the freezer for those nights when I'm too tired to cook.

tonight it was one of $5 chickens from costco. had dinner tonight, lunch for dh tomorrow, shredded the rest, and will make chicken fried rice on tues...not bad...

oh, jannie ... it is a pain to make homemade french fries but I'm telling you, it is *SO* worth it! We have them every couple of months.

My favorite convenience food is ... McDonald's double cheeseburger with a side order of fries. Yum!

For home use, packaged flavored pasta or rice wins. And I couldn't cook for long without Campbell's cream soups to mix in with something. And for snacking? It's a can of Pringles.

Guess I'd have to say Biscuit Mix..add milk & you have biscuits! I also really like alot of the packets of seasonings-for particular dishes or sauces..to add to my own flavorings.
But, the one I use constantly, is in the dairy case...the rectangular carton of Mashed potatoes--SO good, the real thing & called "Simply Potatos"-unlike the instant granules of days gone by. I hated them & refused to buy them. The arthritis in my hands deters me peeling potatoes for mashed & these are the best & SO convenient!

Suzieq, homemade mayonnaise is so easy. I posted a recipe the other day, and Marilyn_Sue made it and her family really likes it. It has the flavour of miracle whip, and we really like it.
Put it in jar, and it's right there to use.

Jasdip, I am going to have to make up another batch of the mayo as I have used the first one up! I put it in my cucumber salad, tuna salad, deviled eggs and my apple salad. I would think you could adjust the ingredients to just your liking, say if you like it sweeter or whatever. I know it will be great in potato salad. Can't find time to get everything done I want to do!

My favorite convenience food is Del Taco's Deluxe Cheddar Cheese Fries. It's more convenient than going shopping and oh, so good.

Panko bread crumbs in a box. They have less additives than some of the other crumbs, and they are very crunchy.

I like Braum's, individual packages of frozen chili. It's a little thin, but that is the way I like it. Chili, crackers and a glass of milk.

My favorite convenience food is the contents of a grocery store. Everything there is convenience food when you think about it. Otherwise you grow your fruit & veggies, grow and butcher your meat. There, they do the bulk of the work for you.

Are snacks convenience food? If so, I like Wheat Thins, Pretzels, Potato Chips & trail mix.

Oh I forgot to say microwave popcorn. It's my dinner sometimes. Like tonight. Got a movie from Netflix today, so it'll be popcorn/wine/and the movie.
