A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day,

drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As

they talked about life, about marriage, about the

responsibilities of life and the obligations of

adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her

glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance

upon her daughter

'Don't forget your Sisters,' she advised, swirling

the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. 'They'll

be more important as you get older. No matter how

much you love your husband, no matter how much you

love the children you may have, you are still going

to need Sisters. Remember to go places with them now

and then; do things with them.'

'Remember that 'Sisters' means ALL the women...

your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other

women relatives too. 'You'll need other women. Women

always do.'

What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman

thought. Haven't I just gotten married?

Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a

married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely

my husband and the family we may start will be all I

need to make my life worthwhile!'

But she listened to her Mother. She kept contact

with her Sisters and made more women friends each

year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,

she gradually came to understand that her Mom really

knew what she was talking about. As time and nature

work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman,

Sisters are the mainstays of her life.

After more than 50 years of living in this world,

here is what I've learned:

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time passes.

Life happens.

Distance separates.

Children grow up.

Jobs come and go.

Love waxes and wanes.

Men don't do what they're supposed to do.

Hearts break.

Parents die.

Colleagues forget favors.

Careers end.

BUT.........

Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how

many miles are

between you. A girl friend is never farther away

than needing her can reach.

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you

have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life

will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,

praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on

your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the

valley's end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk

beside you...Or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,

daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers,

Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended

family, all bless our life!

The world wouldn't be the same without women, and

neither would I. When we began this adventure called

womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or

sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we

would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on

to all the women who help make your life meaningful.

I just did. Short and very sweet:

There are more than twenty angels in this world.

Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds. Nine are

playing. And one is reading her email at this

moment.

Send this message to ten of your friends including

me. If you get 5 replies, someone you love will

surprise you.

Very nice. I am going to send it to my actual sister. One thing I have found out as I got older is it is harder to find "Sisters" to talk to and do things with. Everyone gets so involved with their lives, marriage, kids, jobs etc. But there is nothing like having another woman to talk to about all the things we go through in life. That is what I like about this forum. Lots of Sisters!

I believe that is true...but I screwed up...lol

Denny is my best friend...has been since the day I met him...

Along the way I've lost a lot of my friends..

Part of my problem is I've always gotten along better with guys then I have girls.

I was always a tom boy...I've always been strong and done hard work. I still enjoy getting outside and doing work that is hard...(hate house work)

I love having company...and wish I had more friends..but I don't like leaving Denny to run with them.

A lot of that has come since he had the stroke. At first it was because I was afraid to leave him...that something might happen...now I think it has become habit.

Plus...the computer has come into my life in the last 10 years...I guess I get my friendship here...

But I know I need some "real life"...lol...friends.

Good Morning. I have caught up on the posts and need to get an address for Jen. I e-mailed her via this site, but have gotten no response. I have her in the b-day exchange and I need to send her a package. NH Suzanne - big HUGS for you. I hope DH snaps out of it. Sounds like you have the best therapy for it all....taking a ride on our favorite horse...Sweet Pea. I have be MIA...sorry. I have had 4 teenagers in the house for the last week and a half. It has been very trying for us as DH and I are not used to kids. It is fun, exhausting and expensive. We have been boating this weekend and my neice got a nasty sunburn. A blister has formed on her back about the size of a quarter. I feel bad, but I witnessed all the sunblock being applied, so I guess it comes with the territory being in florida and all. We have them for three more days so I will post agin later.... two of them just got up, so breakfast duty calls.

I don't know that a picture would be helpful. The silk is now less shiny, it shrinks a couple of inches both in length and width. It just feels slightly thicker, and more substantial. The original broadcloth felt like tissue, and was very smooth. This is now a matte finish, and has a slight texture to it. As for the technique - I got it from the Singer Sewing Reference Library book "Creative Sewing Ideas". But the technique is on the internet, too. It's really simple. I wouldn't do more than 2 or 3 yards at a time, though. 8 yards would be too much for the washer. Wet your fabric with warm water. Fill your washer on the lowest water setting with HOT water. Add 2 cups white vinegar, and agitate for a minute to distribute the vinegar. Add the fabric. Agitate for 12 minutes on the most vigorous cycle, then let go through the rinse cycle. Dry on hot in the dryer. Repeat as desired to get the effect you want. I did my fabric 3 times, and also increased the vinegar in the last go-round. I'm very happy with the feel of the fabric, but I fear this red silk will continue to bleed forever. I will make the scarves, but I will include a box of Shout Color-Catchers with each of them, LOL!

In my opinion, it all boils down to maturity of the children and age-appropriateness. Tell children what is appropriate for their maturity level. My DS's mental maturity is vastly different from FSD's. Even FDH and BM have commented on it. Not that it's bad, but we have to handle things differently with each child. FSD is probably about 2 or 3 years behind in her maturity, mostly due to excessive sheltering from her parents. For instance, she was talking to a friend on the phone (in my bedroom, rolling all over my bed, while I was folding clothes) this past summer and her friend was talking of going to Greece with the extra-curricular group that FSD used to belong to before she moved. This friend told FSD that they have nude beaches there. FSD said "is that the name of it? Like Galveston Beach?" Her friend told her that it was a beach where people don't wear clothes. She says "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH, I get it, EWWWWW". I don't necessarily believe that nieviety (sp?) to be a bad thing. Actually, I find it refreshing in a world where too many people grow up too fast. But there are other things that her immaturity causes massive problems. Homework, schedules of her different activites and so on. DS, on the other hand, is over-aware of what goes on between his father and me. For instance, last year when X and I were going through CS issues, DS tells me in the grocery store "can I have yogurt? We have the money now that my dad is giving us more." He then proceeded to tell me how his dad was going to have to get another job and wasn't going to be able to be involved in his sports anymore due to having to work more. UGH! I hadn't been talking to DS about what was going on, but X did so I had clean-up duty. So I say "Okay, bud, here's the deal. Dad hasn't actually paid any of that money yet and the courts haven't decided exactly how much more he will be paying. So we will not be spending any more than we have to. And in any case, the courts won't ask Dad to pay any more than he is able to". I only told him what I thought he should know and could handle. Nothing more. I could've said "Well, your DAD has 2 vehicles and we only have one and he's complaining about having to pay a few more dollars to support HIS son when he's been getting away with it for the last 3 years. Oh, and by the way, he thinks his motorcycle is more important than you. He makes sure to make that motorcycle payment, but doesn't make sure to send his money for you." I could've said that. But that would only hurt my DS who looks up to and loves his father.

Is it a "townhouse" or a "condo"? Depending on which it really is, different rules would most likely apply. If it's a condo, than yes, in most cases anything outside of the interior walls of the unit is considered common and maintained by the Association. Townhouses are a little different though in that the homeowner is typically responsible for their own exterior maintenance needs. It really just all depends on what is written in the CCR's for that particular development/Association. To get the issue clarified, you may want to contact the Association and just ask. In regards to the law suit I am not an Attorney but based on the amount of money involved, something like this is monetarily small and would most likely be handled in a small claims court. If that's the case, your sister would just need to present her side of the story as well as any documentation to support it. To get restitution for her trees, she would need to file a counter suit for the damages and depending on the court, often times, both suits can be heard by the same judge at the same time. Filing a small claims lawsuit is neither difficult nor expensive. The process and/or forms can normally be found on the website under small claims for the county you live in. That said, depending on the situation, you may want to look into seeking the advise of an Attorney just to ensure you have accurate information and fully understand what you need to do to protect yourselves.

Gayle, you are so right. I have 1 sister, 3 BFFs, a SIL, and a cousin that I would do anything for and they would for me. I can't imagine life w/o these women. We have gone through thick and thin, births, deaths, marriages, divorces, chemotherapy, radiation, waiting for biopsies and just basically hard times together. We've also gone through joy and fun and happiness and fullfillment and lots of love together. DHs are nice and sons-in-law and sons are nice, but I do love and cherish the girls in my life. Not to mention 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters. I truly think friends are a gift you give yourself. God bless mine and yours.

What a perfect day for you to post this, Gayle. I've lost all 4 of my sisters but think of my girlfriends as sisters now. Today is the 8th anniversary of the loss of my dear twin sister, so I'm really thinking about "sisters" today. Just trying to stay busy...

Main Man's oldest Daughter sent this to me. I am as close to her as I am my own Daughter. She is actually more like me than my own Daughter.

I treasure my Aunts, Great Aunts, Cousins, Second and Third Cousins, Nieces and Great Nieces. We try to get together for lunch every other month throughout the year. The younger ones call us the Ya Ya Sisters.

I am fortunate to return to my Childhood home where many of my Lifetime GF's live. My Mother and my Grandmothers were wonderful friends.

Plus I spent yesterday with my BF on the Lake. We laughed our old hineys off playing with her GS in the water.

Within the next month I have a Second Cousin who is moving to the country less than 1 mile from my House. I am really excited to have her near. Her Sister has cancer and she isn't doing well.

AWWW Gayle...you post the most loving things...this is a keeper and since both of my REAL sisters don't have puters...I'm gonna print it out all nice and mail it to them!
