Leslie, I know this is a bittersweet time for you. Having a loved one pass away on a holiday must stir such mixed emotions. Your dh must be on your mind so much today. Just wanted to give you a hug.

My previous house in the Seattle area was built about 60 years ago and had solid wood (i.e., one-piece) gutters milled out of clear, old growth cedar. They were nice-looking and you didn't have to worry when you leaned a ladder against them. However, if you don't keep them cleaned, they can still rot, especially if they are not cedar. Further, this kind of gutter is very hard to find and costs a huge amount compared to other materials. If you are talking about constructing a gutter out of pieces of wood and siliconing the joints, I would discourage you from doing this. Wood has movement due to moisture and even silicone will fail in a short time under wet conditions like this. If you don't like the look of metal or plastic gutters, you might use them anyway and box them in with wood for the aesthetics.

You can add me to the list. I'm about 30 min. from Cleveland. We should all make a list and put it in a file on our computer so we can check it before we leave for somewhere. Then we can send emails to those who would be on our route, just in case. In fact, I have a list going for those who are willing to let us stay in their driveway, have campgrounds close or just to stop and visit along our travels with the motor home. Tami

thinkdesignlive- thank you that’s a great suggestion. When I center the rug should it be centered in the actual room or centered on the fireplace. unfortunately the fireplace is not centered. Also the rug will hand over in the main walk way to the foyer is that okay? I believe that’s why I have it currently pulled to the right more if your facing the tv. I was afraid of impeding that walk way and being half on rug half not while walking thru.

I forgot I had posted this. It was about Leslie's dh who passed away 10 years ago while they were at the cabin on July 4th. I was just thinking what a difficult holiday it must be for her.

Thank you so much for thinking of me. Yes, it is a hard time every 4th of July. About the only thing that makes it a little easier, is I know he loved it there too.
