Magic gopher...How is this done? I don't get it!

If you have any idea how the gopher does this, please clue me in.

It came up on my screen but by the time I got to the third suggestion of what to do I forgot my number. LOL I saved the site and will try again later.

I also use transorb roundup. If I spray it and a few minutes later it starts to mist or rain, it still takes effect. Yes, it is a week or so before you notice any difference in the plants but it is very very effective. Someone said that the stuff that is in the local Cdn Tire and other hardware stores is a different kind...almost watered down...and you have to have no moisture for up to a week for it to take effect. Here the grass is definitely starting to grow. Today I want to mix up a batch of roundup and spray around the raspberries (they haven't leafed out yet and there are a few grass that I saw in there the other day). I only have to spray once with the transorb compared to the 3 times with the super concentrated stuff. It comes in a large jug and costs over $150 for the jug. When mixing it up in my backpack sprayer I put just over 1/2 a cup in a 4 litre milk jug of water. Two jugs of mixed roundup and I am ready to go. As soon as the roundup hits the soil it becomes inactive. What it does is make the plant grow so fast that it bursts its seams...therefore dying. Anyways, here on the 10 acres I have no quams about using it and absolutely would recommend Transorb. BTW, you can freeze roundup so, there is no need to store it in the house....important fact for us FNers. Been there and done the landscape fabric thing. Not any more. I use flax shives and find that they are wonderful. Easy to place down, a little layer will do you, cheap (a semi load just dropped off here for free since they wanted to get rid of it), makes a nice smooth surface and looks good. I am really interested to find out whether slugs like or dislike the little sharp flax shives. No problem on any plants that were mulched with flax last year. It will be a carnosa, no doubt. Susan, your Hoya is tolerant of low light conditions. That is to say, it will not die in your vampire abode. However, it will stop blooming, because it does very much prefer high light conditions. You basically have two options. You can either give it the best light you've got, sticking it RIGHT up against the window, and be content with its pretty leaves, or you can get some kind of grow light to supplement what you have naturally available. Other general care instructions are that carnosa likes to dry out between waterings. You'll want to water it until the water runs out the bottom, whenever you can stick your finger in a couple inches and it feels dry. It's best to err on the side of watering it too little than too much. It is a myth that Hoyas do not like to be fertilized and prefer to be neglected. The common species are just tough, so in other words, do feed it. ^_^ When you repot it, which should be done periodically when the soil is draining too fast or the plant just seems less enthusiastic than usual, try to use a chunky mix. Most people here use a blend of peat, bark, and perlite. You're so very lucky to have inherited a beautiful heirloom plant. It is not a difficult Hoya to grow, so relax and experiment and I'm sure you two will be bonded in no time.

. It's "F M" . . . . 'Friggin Magic . . . I've got a system designed and installed by ETM; been here a bit over a year now. And yes; your meter can indeed run backwards. I've supplied a VERY healthy percent of my annual electricity usage for my residence during the past year. Electric meters ( well, the "old fashioned" mechanical ones with the moving dial ) are really just a specialized motor . . . and when power goes OUT to the grid; it will run backwards. Net metering basically means that if you use a kilowatt hour ( kWh ) and then later on replace it with one of your own; you owe nothing for electricity. Also know that there is other interconnect stuff required; so as to prevent the possibility of hurting someone working on the lines during an outage trying to restore things . . It's quite involved technically as far as the equipment goes and how it works . . . but as an "end user" such as myself; it is pretty darn close to just let the equipment run and do it's thing. You are correct in wondering how it's done; the DC from the panels goes through an inverter . . . which has the ability to produce power JUST like the power company; and to "synch" up with it as needed. Such equipment must meet utility requirements and others as well. In my particular case; I also chose to have battery back-up; when the grid does go down; the switchover is so fast that you can barely detect it. It also reconnects when things are back to normal; automatically. I'm an electronics guy myself; and while the basic principles are fairly straght forward; actually doing it at the power levels involved, to everyone's satisfaction; is indeed a daunting engineering task. I've got 2800 w of PV panels, a 4 kW inverter; and about 1000 lbs of batteries that comprise my system. I've got a write-up I did if anyone is interested; email me with a REAL email address and I can send it along. I welcome questions too . . and rather enjoy showing it to anyone who has some interest in it . . . and right now, NY has some GOOD incentives for such systems . . when you toss in the tax credits as well; they all ended up covering ~ half the cost of my system . . . . It's certainly something you can start to do on your own, with the help of the Kitchen forum -- many of us here have done that. But to do that, you need to read through the link I posted before, https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5500754/new-to-kitchens-read-me-first#23482868 to understand how it's done here in the forum. It's also worthwhile reading through the archives to see how others have done it. Then, once you've done that, post pictures with more detailed measurements. Let us know how many people live in the house, how many use (or will use, if you have small children) the kitchen, what sort of cooking you do (do you just reheat takeout or love to bake or cook three meals from scratch every day), what are your sort of storage needs, what have you found difficult/awkward since you started using the kitchen last summer, etc. Also, what do you envision for the breakfast room space? How do you use your dining room? Do you like the dining room and living room set-ups as they are currently in your house, and do they work with your needs? Do you need a mudroom? Would it be better to turn the breakfast room into a mudroom area, keeping the wall that separates the space from the kitchen, and perhaps instead remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room? But whatever you, do NOT buy appliances next week, or you will have to plan around the appliances, rather than your needs. And do NOT skimp on the planning phase. Consider the time it takes as a great investment in a great kitchen that works for you and looks beautiful.

Well, it's VERY creepy!!! The little guy gets it right every time. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I had to write my number down so I wouldn't forget. Oh, and one time I thought I had tricked him, but I had forgotten a step. LOL!

That is creepy...The first time I wrote the number down...so he may have seen me. The second time, I kept it totally hidden from him, for sure. He still know what it was!

It's not magic--it's math. No matter what two-digit number you choose, when you do the subtraction, you end up with a multiple of nine. In the chart of symbols, all the multiples of nine have the same symbol (9, 18, 36, 45, etc.). Every time you play the game, the symbol changes, making it seem like magic.

There are dozens of versions of this on the web, some of which have been posted on this forum over the years.

OK, I stink at math. But that explanation makes sense...when I look at the numbers, I see that every 9th one has the same symbol. But how does the gopher know which symbol?

Am I making sense?

I'm guessing all the answers are the same...that they lead up to the same number.

I can't finish mine...I can't find any symbols...where are they?

When he mentions the chart, click again on the right facing arrow (where you had clicked previously). It brings up the chart.

The web site programming is designed so that every time you start the game, the symbols on the chart change, and the final page with the guessed symbol changes also, so that they always match. It's a simple "if, then" instruction. In other words, the computer code says something like: if xxx.jpg is displayed as the chart, then display [the corresponding picture] on the final page.

Does that make sense? Or did I just confuse you further? :)

I did it 3 times and he was correct. Then I did it 3 times without using my cursor to find the symbol and he was wrong. Don't use your cursor to find the symbol. Keep it off the chart and he will not know what you've picked. I think. :)
