I am an odd one. I absolutely love soups. My favorite is chicken vegetable soup with homemade noodles. Yummy. If I could have two foods to live off of, I would like to have a piece of cornbread with my soup for dunking.(:-) My grandmother made great homemade soups (sometimes out of leftovers) and I still enjoy a good bowl of homemade soup.
Like your question.

Although there are a lot of foods I love, I can't imagine eating only one and never having any of the others. I know this doesn't answer your question.

I'm only 37 but miss my great grandmother's cooking the most. Every Sunday after church the whole clan would go to her tiny house and eat, everyone would bring something. It was heaven for a little kid who didn't love her mom's cooking. Fried apple pies made from her apples she grew, Greens, Poke, Turnip, and Mustard usually, Fried chicken, Chicken and Dumplings, Fried squash and okra, homemade Mac n cheese, chocolate pie, blackberry cobbler made with the berries from out behind her house, she grew a huge row of them and had a huge garden. I did not eat tomatoes then, but I would eat the cherry tomatoes she had with a bit of salt. My great aunt also would make us duck eggs fried in bacon grease getting the edges lacey like we liked and chocolate mayonaise cake. I have most of the recipes except the cobbler, making my mom look for it. My grandma made pretty good Purple Hull Peas and rice with a brown gravy. I cook very similar to this now, can't help it, it just tastes better to me. I don't really miss Kool aid or peanut butter and jelly, think I ate way too much of that and hotdogs as a kid at home.

What food could you live off of for the remainder of your life? Extra, extra rare steak. What do you think is your most visited website on your computer? Probably the Meeting House. Do you think Dr.Phil is inspirational? Not at all. Are you wearing socks right now?If so what color? Wearing Crocs and no socks. I will put some on in a little bit when I get ready to leave....white low cut ones. Are you procrastinating right now No, I'm cooling off. I have to leave in a few minutes to go pick up dogfood. My Monday's are always that...pick up dog food and go eat chicken and dressing at Cracker Barrel.

This is my 3rd attempt at sauerkraut. First time was too scary, and I abandoned it. Second time around, I was more adventurous, and scraped the "spooge" off the edges and then tasted the 'kraut. It was SOUR, since I'd let it ferment for a long time (6 weeks or so), but good. Other people's sauerkraut tasted bland in comparison. I'm going to check this new batch at 5 days, and keep checking it every little bit after that til I find "just right". I know it takes me a while to get used to new favors, so hopefully the more you drink your lemonade, sample the cheese, etc., the more you'll like it. Have you tried store bought Kombucha? I'd love to get that kind of flavor and fizziness in our home brew. That's great you have space for a back pantry kitchen, Building for the CATS. I think this is an ideal setup, really. AK Tillery's kitchen comes to mind. Our pantry is only about 4x4ish, and has no room for a back counter. I'm thankful for what it holds, but its use is somewhat limited. The Amish around here often have a second kitchen in the basement. This is their canning area, and is nice for when they host large groups for church and fellowship. One friend used her second kitchen for juicing as part of Gerson therapy for her husband's Lyme disease (He's doing GREAT!) She was really thankful that all that prep and cleanup could happen separate from her everyday kitchen. Your rolling carts and extended counter sound super helpful, loonlakelaborcamp. I hear you on nowhere to clamp things down, we had issues with that in our old house when we'd go to use the squeezo or the apple peeler. I love the idea of the canning jars at the backsplash. I think Mamagoose has this too, right? I have my spices under my cooktop, which is pretty handy too. I just need to break down and order storage tins to contain them more neatly. It's a mess under there right now. I don't think I mind the "working kitchen look" so much as I mind A.The lack of counter space. B.When there is clutter on the counters, the kids don't clean up as well (and neither does mom, frankly ; )) It's like the stuff all blends together, and it gets more full and disorganized by the minute, like Scoby's left too long in their dark swampy tea. : )

Week 110 - What was the worst food you ever ate?

I'm having the best time reading your memories. @Kippy. ROFL boiled lawn. I read it to my husband and he said, "that's just like your pennywort drink but worse". At least my drink has sugar in it to offset the taste. @jillius Durian smells really bad raw. Did the candy smell too? @mushcreek. I had to look up chitlins. OMG hog's intestines and guts. And it's served with my favorite foods, collard greens and fried chicken? Say what!! The name sounds like little critters running around, especially chitterlings. @mgmum Yes..... that's what I have nightmares and wrote about. Uni = RAW sea urchin. It looks like slimy, congealed barf. @flamingfish I used to feel the same way as you about oysters until someone introduced me to the right kinds of oysters. The oysters that I've learned to love are small and sweet. They're slightly chewy like clams and are delicious with lemon and a dash of spicy red sauce. Even my husband likes them and he is afraid of any food that isn't processed or packaged in a box or plastic. Those kinds of oyster are pretty expensive though so we only eat them when in San Francisco at a specific oyster bar during their happy hour. The oysters are $1/each then. @ Bob. if it's really "Cow fetus in placenta sauce" , you definitely beat the goat's eyes. @mrspete. Oooooh a Scots for hubby. I adore Scots and their accent. I will take your advice and NEVER try haggis. I don't need another memory scar. By the way, have you seen Outlander? @artemis "one could not remotely begin to guess which nodules were peppercorns or bits of lead shot!" - Too funny. @blubird. Yuck and just curious. Why are the ingredients no longer allowed to be sold?

Good question. I would answer different things at different times. Recently, I had to change my diet and have found that foods I would have thought I couldn't do without, I don't miss that much. On the other hand, foods I felt weren't that important have become major "treats" -- such as yogurt.

But, to answer your question -- right now I'd say that I could live on the grape salad recipe that I got from this forum (sorry, I can't remember right now who posted it). It is so delicious -- manna from heaven. ;>)

With my son it would be pasta. He could eat that every night. I like variety and can't stand having the same thing twice in a row.

Vegetable beef soup!
Having the same thing over and over would be really hard, but V B soup would almost give variety.
