Ah, good old United Airlines. I'll never fly them again after the experiences I had with them while on active duty. The first came while returning from overseas. Our flight had been delayed in Heathrow and then had to stop in Gander and got fogged in at that airport. We eventually arrived in JFK where I had to catch a connecting flight to Grand Rapids, MI. I was in my uniform (Navy wools) was tired, dirty and wanted to get home. The stewardess was the rudest person I ever encountered. I won't go into all the details but I did contact United to complain about her attitude even though she tried to "sweetly apologize" when I was exiting the plane. The letter they sent was a joke.

Then they lost my luggage twice coming home again from overseas! The last incident was after another long flight with connecting flights that didn't get me back to GR until 2 a.m. I wasn't the only one with lost luggage on the flight - 6 other people also had theirs sent somewhere. The worst part was we were the only passengers on the plane.

They can call themselves friendly all they want, but I don't buy it and haven't flown them since nor will I.

A few years ago while flying on Delta on a return flight are luggage flew somewhere else so we where not going to get it until the next day, wasn't so bad we where home. Filled out paperwork treated well they offered to send luggage in taxi to our home the next day. This is a story that you catch more flies with honey. While we were finishing up at the counter they guy next to us was being a total butt head (he was returning home also I think was on same flight as us) he was screaming and demanding a bunch of money and free travel vouches. They informed him he could pick up his luggage tomorrow at the airport. (was not offered the taxi delivery)

My husband used to travel for work a lot. His luggage was lost, they never found it. I know for a fact it had info as to who it belong to in the suitcase. If was never found must have been stolen, nothing of really great value so I don't understand. I think he got about 500.00.

They was a great video! I love the song. Not knowing all the facts, who to say but.... Great voices.

Very well done. Thanks for sharing!

That's great,
Being a airline employee myself I have to defend the United employees. They have been screwed by their employer and they are angry and bitter. 45 year employees and they lost their pensions. Health benefits, pay cuts all done to them. United treats their employees like dirt. That's why they are so mean.
Southwest on the other hand treats their employees with respect. They have the highest satisfaction rating.

Sorry, Donna, even though they have mistreated so bad, it is no excuse to steal and destroy other people's property. If everyone who received cutbacks, lost of pay, benefits did that it really would be a sad world.
My relative is in law enforcement. Had benefits cut back, loss of days working, and may loose his job if stupid 'Arnold" wipes out all the CA state parks and all law enforcement in the state will be envolved and would you want to request assistance and not receive it? It is already happening. Not enough to cover the state.
Yes they are bitter, but think of the people in MI and other states that are loosing everything because of the auto cutbacks. If they are really that unhappy, they need to either quite or go on strike, or go by the book. My relatives are flying United and so far have been treated fairly good.

I have been flying for over 30 years and have flown on most airlines, some of which are no longer around, and have never had a problem...I've never had a cross words spoken to me or have I ever had my luggage go somewhere else...I'm a real fan of airline travel...Put me in a plane any time....

It is too bad when they or any company cuts wages, benefits etc., but what makes it worse is when the higher ups in that company still get their bonus and actually think they should have it...

I just saw that on tv. The guy had his 3500 guitar broken and they wouldn't do anything about it. He tried and tried and nothing.

so, he made this fun video of it all.
shows the guy singing and his guitar broken at the top.

I thought it was a great idea of him to do.

Ditto per Donna -- my BGF is a United flight attendant and they have been treated like garbage, and they are paid peanuts.

LOL. Great video and the boys did a crediable job on the vocals too.

There is more to this story, an upside if you will. According to what I heard, after this video was made, the airline was so impressed with it that they paid the group for rights to use it. For what? They wanted to use it in their baggage handling training program - something about how NOT to do it.

Go figure!

The estimate to repair the guitar was $1500. They did not get that much, but they did net an undisclosed amount for the video.

The guy, a member of a band based in Halifax, was interviewed on CBC Radio One, on Friday's arts program, I think (or was it Saturday morning?). On a flight from Halifax to Nebraska for a gig with their band, a lady in a seat next to them spoke of seeing luggage being thrown around (at O'Hare?), and they saw an article shaped like their guitar being thrown ... and it turned out that the guitar was broken.

There was a good deal of passing from this person to that, including call centre in India, over an extended period.

It appears that it's a very popular item on the website where it's to be found.

It is a rather engaging song! I recommend it (and I only heard it on the radio ... without the message received by the eyes, as well).

ole joyful ... enjoyed incident-free flight recently and in thankful receipt of pensions for about 13 years

Why would anybody in their right mind put a musical instrument worth $3,500 through as checked baggage?!?

Everyone who has ever flown knows that baggage handlers have a lot of bags to handle and they need to do it quickly. They are not going to be white-glove gentle with anything. If you expect your checked baggage to be treated with respect, you shouldn't check your baggage.

Unless that guitar was in an American Tourister suitcase that can withstand a full-grown elephant standing on it, the guy should have taken it onboard as his personal item carry-on, and stowed it in an overhead bin.

lindsey,
you can't take it onboard unless you purchase a seat for it. If you try and they don't have a place in the closet for it they will check it.
mariend, I wasn't suggesting that because the employees are angry they were OK with breaking the guitar. There was another post about United's rude employees that I was responding to.

My own airline cut our pay and benefits by 33% in 2003. I was very angry for quite some time. I had to let it go for my own sake. It makes my day go much better when i am nice. Being rude is not good for my own mental health.
Donna

What a very, very catchy video- very well done!
