We have a Boxer from a rescue group, white with freckles. He is very sweet and a great companion for our Lab mix.

He was two when we adopted him, was already housebroken and knew how to walk pretty well on a leash. We had to teach him to sit, however, and not to jump up and hug people.

Yep,I forgot to say he's already housebroken and he's learning to use the doggie door ,but he does have to scooch down a little.He LOVES Larry,he was a guys dog.The guy gave him up because he has to much energy for him,he didn't have time to train him,he said.But he sits and lays down,you can take food from him(my personal test,I insist on my dogs giving me something when I ask)He does jump on you but going to work on that,and he has to learn that the back seat is his in the truck,not the front on my lap! We worked on that today.He walks fairly well on a leash.I know we'll find little things that need worked on,but we can do it. We worked on Rover when we adopted him,he had an agression issue that didn't show up for a while but he's over it now.I think by tomorrow afternoon,the other dogs will accept him.They're all pretty lenient...Rick and Miss Em will get over their bad selfs pretty soon.They just have to show him they're the bosses.It will work out,I know it will.

Sounds like you have a winner!! We are getting ready to adopt again, after losing our Cody to megaesophagus in December.

We traveled cross-country with him (cockapoo) 7 years ago. We used a traveling harness which was lightly padded in the front, and attached a leash that we looped a seatbelt through so that he could move around on the back seat, but not reach the front. He had no problem getting used to it. Even just going to the vet or wherever in the car with him he ALWAYS rode in the back seat with a harness with a leash attached to a seatbelt.

Yup, I got a pair of boxers, shorts that is, LOL! They have little bicycles all over, and I wear them as pj bottoms.

This is a WIN-WIN situation. Yes, there are so many beautiful, wonderful animals in shelters who need homes. My pet peeve (well, one of them) is people who breed dogs and cats to sell for extra money. I say, get a job and quit making money off the backs of poor defenseless animals. For every animal you bring into the world, means one less home for an all-ready born animal in the shelters, waiting for a home......or death.

Chubby Rat, you are a good person, and I'm sure Shadow will be a terrific addition to your family. Good going!!!

Congrats, CR. I think everyone who has had one will agree, boxers are wonderful dogs.

And you'll be able to change his name, he's still young enough to learn. Just decide what you want to call him and then call him "Shadow Whatever" for a while, emphasis on the 2nd part. Eventually, you can drop the Shadow. Ideally, a name that rhymed with Shadow or at least ended in the "O" sound would make it easier.

Wasn't Hooch a Bloodhound? The St. Bernard, Beethoven, drooled a lot, too, as I recall! lol Heck, Nosey Parker drools while she's making bread on me at 3 AM. :)

Hey, FYI- PeeWee had an MRI Thursday and immediately had 2 disks in her neck removed! Poor little thing has been having a rough time of it.

We have a pretty, little boxer named Akaia. We call her Kaia for short. She's just under a year and active as can be. We're working on some of her behaviorial issues. She's such a great protector of my girls and she's just an absolute love.

Flamey,I think Hooch was a Mastiff or at least part. I loved that movie! I know,my PITA drools while he fluffs me at night too! Maybe it's a white cat thing! LOL! I didn't know Boxers drooled so much,I've never been around one much.Or maybe he drools more than normal because of his jaw?

Glad you had a good night, CR. For the first time in about 3 years, we're not having to take anyone out at night. It seems so odd. Paisley had bladder issues and needed to go out 2-4 times a night.

PW has to stay at the vet's for a couple more days, I hope she's doing OK, too.

My friends have a boxer.. that dog drools a lot and licks constantly! The joke is that "He can't hold his licker (liquor)!" lol Thanks for adopting Shadow CR! I'm sure he'll fit right in with your crew.

Congratulations on your new dog. Adopting where you are must be really reasonable priced. We just adopted two poodle/shnauser mixes that were 3 years old and paid $150 each and then had to give them their second shots. We named them Shadow and Metoo. Shadow follows me constantly and Metoo wants to join in. They were named Bruins and Sabres. Fortunately it didn't take too long to change their names and have them learn them.

My neighbor has a beautiful brindle boxer named Rocco. Poor little guy was taken away from his mom way too early and often left in the yard to fend for himself. My cranky old Rotty/Basset became his surrogate mom. She'd lick him thru the fence, then he'd reach through with one of those clever boxer front legs and try to pull her through the fence to him.
He's a sweetheart, though. My tomato patch is right next to the fence and when I'm out picking, he's there begging. He likes the little yellow ones best.

We have a wonderful boxer named Max, Ds got him right before he joined the Marines, then couldn't understand why he couldn't have him back after 4 years lol. I LOVE this dog! He's great with the other animals and young children. Best breed in the world as far as I'm concerned.

My life was saved by not one, but two boxers!

When I was very small and still in my crib my mother was on the phone trying to have a conversation while I was napping. But our brindle boxer dog Mike kept coming up to her barking and then would run back to my room. He did this several times.

Mom finally told her friend that something was wrong and she needed to go check on me. She found me in my crib, blue and with a dry cleaner bag sucked down my throat. She removed the bag but was certain I was dead when my father, a professional Golden Gloves boxer and part time Seattle sheriff walked in the door for lunch. Having taken CPR classes, he knew what to do. And here I sit, 57 years later because of the two boxers in my life. :-)

CR - we adopted an 18 month dog and changed it's name. It really didn't take very long - of course dog treats helped.

Hi CR... we have two, six year old sisters, Bella and Sasha, Bella is fawn, and Sasha is reverse brindle. We lost our first Boxer, Jenna, a brindle, to the Rainbow Bridge when she was 11. They are such sweet dogs. THEY don't seem to realize that they are dogs though. They think they are people. Very loving, and protective. Both our girls are big girls, nearly 100 pounds. But happy and very active.
If Shadow pulls when you walk him, with the collar, you might try a harness. We have used harnesses for all our boxers. They are very strong dogs, and the harnesses fit around their chests. Easier, for me, to handle them. Good luck, have fun with him.

Both my dogs from Petfinder had different names but I didn't care. It's important to me to find a name I like saying since I say it so many times a day. My Ziggy was called Bailey and my newest dog was called Parker which I changed to Walter 'cause he looks like one. No problems with either of them learning their name. Say it often and it will take less than a week.

What a day!! How fun that you weren't expecting to get a dog, just go shopping and you came home with one!! Talk about excitement. Glad everything is going pretty well. He seems like he will be a lot of fun! Congratulations.
