Oooh.........baby pictures!!!

I'm a little cross-eyed from my 160-mile round trip to the hospital, but I couldn't wait to share with you the pictures I took. The baby (named Joseph, after his dad) was so alert and calm the whole time I was there. Fun to photograph. Here he is at ten hours old.

I would be happy to ID any pics you manage to get, MB, if I can. Your brownish birds on the ground with yellowish underneath are very likely palm warblers. They spend a lot of time on the ground, picking around, and bobbing their tails up and down. It's a common behavior for them that is a good clue to their ID. Palm Warbler: We have two races of palm warblers here in the winter. The western (above) and the eastern, with more yellow and a more noticeable rusty crown. I see more of the plainer looking western variety for some reason. I wish my white wings stayed all winter, but they always disappear for a few months. I know they don't leave the state, but they relocate to some other area, I guess. Maybe following a food source that is ripening somewhere. I'm happy they are back. I know they are nothing special to many folks, but I love them. They can say "Oooh, baby, oooooh," in my backyard all day long. (Or as *I* hear them: "Ku-ku-kujoooo.") Bluish gray on top without a crest makes me think of blue-gray gnatcatchers. They often travel with warblers and titmice. They are more slender than titmice and have a longish (proportionately) tail with white on each side. They actually look like a miniature mockingbird. Love them! Do these look like your guy? Mary Ellen, I have yet to return home from NY... :( so sad that my hubby is now home from his business trip and I am still up here hard at work. Even MORE sad that I can't open the box from you. On that note, I can't wait to have that box as well as several different seed swap envelopes waiting for me. Having mail and packages other than bills is like getting a Christmas Stocking from Santa as a child. I'm sorry that several of you have had thus far a negative expirience with this very first swap. :( This is my first Round Robin Exchange Expirience and have only joined this one and The Celebrations One. Veeja11, Just to be sure that you have not been misunderstood- are you not familiar with "internet protocal (SP?)"? FYI- It is very dangerous to be posting personal information on the internet; not just on this site, but any. To post the personal information of someone else- especially without their permission is practically spitting in their face. These days it is very easy to get SS #'s, bank account info, etc..with just a first and last name of an individual. I REALLY hope you have learned your lesson. Personally, (I'm sure you're an adult and I don't have to tell you), I really think you should apologize. Few of us seem very upset in these last few posts- Just please lets all keep in mind that reading what someone wrote does not always protray how they feel. Tone of voice cannot be read. Well, I just had to get all that out cause I felt this thread REALLY going in a negative direction. I really hope "The Petal Pushers" don't fall apart and can stick together for a bit. On a lighter note- Sassy- so glad to hear you're feeling better. Give your Kenzie BIG hugs and kisses from my Kenzie too...they're just about the same age. My McKenzie has just started rocking on her hands and knees. It is sooooo cute! I'll post pics as soon as I can. Making it small enough to see on the monitor... If you use Firefox, there's a neat little extension you can download called ZoomImage. You can right-click on an image that's too large (or too small) and have it resize it to where it fits the screen. Or you can blow it up temporarily on your screen with one click so you can really look at details. It's absolutely wonderful.

I never cared for her. In case you ever want to make the mash recipe: FULL RECIPE, THEN DIVIDE BY 8 FOR 1/8 RECIPE 1/2 cup dry black-eyed peas 1/2 cup dry pinto beans 1/2 cup dry kidney beans 1/2 cup dry split peas - a mix of green and yellow 1/2 cup dry garbanzo beans 1/2 cup dry black beans 1/2 cup dry soy beans 1 cup dry great northern white beans 1/2 cup dry wheat berry grain 1/2 cup dry pearl barley grain 1 cup dry wild rice Rinse the beans, grains and rice, then soak them overnight (8 hours or so) in a large pot, covered with about an inch of water. Do not change the water before cooking as you want to retain as many of the nutrients as possible. In the morning add or remove water as needed to cover the mixture with about one inch of water. Bring the water to a full boil and boil for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pot, continue to cook for 20 minutes more. Ideally there will be just enough water to cook the beans, with very little extra. 3 medium sweet potatoes 4 medium white potatoes Scrub, quarter and then slice these into 1/8 inch slices. Then steam these lightly in a steamer, stirring every few minutes to cook them evenly. 3 pounds frozen corn 3 pounds frozen peas 3 pounds frozen carrots 3 pounds frozen green beans I add these to the hot beans and potatoes. It cools them off and stops the cooking process while barely thawing the vegetables. I like to cut the carrots up a bit, just because my birds prefer the different shapes and I think that they tend to be a bit large most of the time. 1/2 pound fresh parsley 3 medium zucchini 4 large tomatoes 1/2 pound of mustard greens 6 large bananas 6 medium apples 4 peeled oranges 1/2 cup cranberries (fresh or frozen) 1 mango (peeled and pitted) 2 papayas (peeled, leave the seeds in) 1-1/2 pounds of green grapes I run these items through a food processor to chop them a little. Do not process them too fine, the birds prefer the chunks of things. An alternative Is to slice them up by hand (this will add more time to making the mash). 1/4 cup dried pumpkin seeds 1/4 cup sesame seeds 1/4 cup dry powdered kelp 1/4 cup alfalfa powder These things I just put in whole (or powdered as the case may be). I mix this all together thoroughly and then freeze it in sandwich bags in daily serving portions. I take one bag out of the freezer and thaw it in the refrigerator for 24 hours, and serve it the next day. I do not recommend the use a microwave to thaw or warm this mash, as this may destroy valuable nutrients and according to some researchers it can also change the molecular structure of the foods. I�m not sure if it does or not, but it�s easy enough to avoid nuking these foods. You can warm it by placing it in warm water. Posted by: "Adrianne" : 2 - 3 rinses before the initial overnight soak. Keeps the water clearer, removes toxins that the legumes produce as they soak/germinate and increases digestability. I also do not use red kidney beans, and have cut back on the black beans as well, as they are more difficult to digest. I use navy beans for the white beans and substitute adzuke (also called aduki or azuke) beans, mung beans and lentils, as they are much easier to digest.

Susan, what a beautiful family! The photos are perfect and your grandson looks so alert for a newborn. And he has hair too. Is he Joseph Jr?

Not sure yet if he'll be a true Junior or not. Depends on what middle name they choose.

I was so tired when I posted those pictures--I'm glad I got them right. LOL Actually, I'm still yawning. My cousin Dave made a changing table for the baby, and we're hoping to get together today so I can pick it up. He's pretty sure it'll fit in my 4Runner.......I hope he's right.

Baby Joey and his parents are rooming together at the hospital for the duration of their stay (until tomorrow). They have a large, attractive room (with a view, yet), the same room in which the baby was born. He's an enthusiastic nurser. :-)

He's adorable. Looks like he's ready to get on with it. I guess babies can't see when they're newborn, but he sure looks like he can. Posing for the camera already--cute and smart :-)

I LOVE the smile on your DS's face! We already knew he was handsome, but that's a super smile.

Birthing suites are just *the best*, aren't they? I think we'll see more happy, relaxed babies (and parents) as this becomes the norm.

Wow Susan, you must be thrilled. They are a fine looking family. You just don't hear Joseph as a baby's name much these days and I really like it. He's a doll and he does look very alert and aware for day one brand new!

Chisue, they live four miles away. BUT.....plans are underway for them to put a two-story modular house on the property they own, which is very close to me. They'll be my nearest neighbor! I probably won't see their house from mine, but I'll be able to see their lights at night. I like that idea. :-)
