Update on my Mom-Brain Cancer

My Mom has brain cancer that has metastasized from ovarian cancer. She has finished her first cycle of the radiation and it was very taxing. She lost her hair(as we knew she would),is very dizzy, has a little trouble with dementia(maybe as a side effect from the cancer?)and is incontinent(sp).She has pneumonia in her right lung. The Dr. has also raised her pain meds to the next tier level -more potent.At this point, we can just try to keep her pain at a somewhat tolerable level.

Oh yes-I cannot remember if I told you she is on a feeding tube because she is unable to swallow.

We got the results back of her PET scan(full body). It revealed a questionable spot on her stomach. This could be cancer or scar tissue from the ovarian cancer(I am claiming the scar tissue).

She will not go back for another MRI scan until July 10th then it will be known if she will do more radiation or what the course of action may be.

I know I asked for them already but please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Great news about Terri. I have learned to love pink as well as not complaining about having another birthday....at least I am here to have another birthday! Saturday I did my 3rd Relay for Life walk.....with my daughter and granddaughter with me. The first lap is for survivors and the second lap is for survivors and their care givers. Lots of sniffling going on for those 2 laps. If Terri has Relays in her area encourage her to go....each year I attend is a greatful year. I bared my head as soon as I felt comfortable doing so....when I flung the wig I never looked back to see where it landed! Because of my job I was forced to "cover my head" longer than I would have liked to....but thats OK cause it's all back and now I complain about how often I have to get a hair cut. I will keep Terri in my prayers as it takes a good while for life to get back to normal.

I will definitely pray for her. I will now ask our Lady, the most Blessed Virgin Mary, to intervene to God on young Katie's behalf. I will also ask Pope John Paul II who should be a saint in the near future. Through his intervention, God has cured at least one person for sure (a nun who suffered from Parkinsons like John Paul II did, was cured from one day to the next in 2005, a few months after he had died). The Church continues to investigate many other possible miracles accredited to his intercession. So I shall pray for her cure but God forbid, if she is taken, she will be with God in heaven.

Hi, Kay. Yes, she is going through all of the paperwork, and she is getting a bit overwhelmed. My dad left everything to her, and my sister-in-law, who is an accountant, is the executor of the will. She is doing most of the work, but they are waiting on the official death certificate before the house can be put in my mom's name. She can't sell until that is done. She also has to get rid of the car, since she doesn't drive, but one of my brothers needs a trade-in, and he is going to buy the car from her ( at a fair market price, of course). My dad did have his affairs in order, and all of the investments were in my mom's name anyhow, so she doesn't have too much to do. Right now she is slowly going through the house getting rid of things she won't need in an apartment. They lived in the same place for 44 years, so it's quite a big job, although in recent years they did begin to clear out a lot of junk. The biggest job is already done. My dad was into model trains, and had a huge set-up in two rooms in the basement. He had literally hundreds of cars, plus little villages, etc. He kept all of the boxes, but it still took us the better part of a week to dismantle the whole thing. The trains are going to be divided up between my brothers, and my mom didn't have to do a thing. We have been very fortunate that there have been absolutely NO arguements over money or disposing of posessions. I have heard so many stories about how a death in the family can bring out the absolute worst in people, but this is not the case for us. All of my brothers and I just want our mom to have as smooth a move as possible, and to end up with as much money as she can get. She is anxious to sell, she finds there are just too many memories in the house, and she wants a fresh start. Hopefully, she can be settled in her new place before the winter weather begins.

Oh Nancy...my heart aches for your mom & you & yours. It is such a battle but with all of your love, encouragement and attention for her, the Drs' wisdom & meds to ease her pain and your mom's optimism..it's through all of our prayers that she find healing & comfort!
