I'm not sure how it's done, but you can set up a "Group" on Facebook. I see a lot of "Praying For" Groups.

Just thought of something..if you do set up a "Group" you will want to add Administrators, so they can add/remove information when you can't.

I agree with starting a "group". It's so easy, even I figured it out no problem. Set it as "private" and invite everyone on your friends list that you would like help from. They'll automatically be in your group. When they see the group listed on the left side of their screen, they'll also see any new posts. There won't be a calendar, but I'm sure you can make one up on paper and let people know when you could use the help and keep tabs on it that way. You may even scan it and upload it as a picture in the news feed. You would have to rescan it and reupload it every time there's a change though.

Just a thought==do you belong to any church, club, etc as sometimes they have people who can help also. Can't remember what city you live in, but are you near a large hospiital or university? Sometime the younger interns and people studying to be in the medical fields can step in for a few hours but do not know about paying them--depends on your situation and theirs. Several years ago, when my former neighbor was in a similar situation, his wife made a large calendar, put it on the wall, and wrote down everything and everyone, times, appointments, meds, phone numbers etc. She said it really made a difference.

Instead of a calendar, you could set up "Events" for the days you'll need help. There's even an option that allows the friends to choose Attend,Not Attending or Maybe! That might would work and all the members would see it.

I just set up a group, under community, but its all tied up with my regular page.... everytime I try to go to HOME of the group page, I end up on my regular page. I guess I'm too tired tonight. Will look at it again tomorrow.

If the doctor has insisted you have someone with you 24/7, isn't your insurance carrier required to provide you with someone? I guess I know the answer to this as I dealt with a lot of angst when my sister was sent home from the hospital unable to care for herself. We lucked out, but really, what do they expect???? Most everyone has to work and people don't have giant families with capable maiden aunties available to stay with you for an extended period anymore. You sure do have my sympathy with this situation, Kat. I wish I had a good suggestion for you.

I agree with sjerin; check out coverage for home health care. It could at least fill in when you don't have a friend or relative to be there. Good luck! I wish I could help you!

Kat, contact your local Area Agency on Aging--if they are as good as our local agency, you will be amazed at the things they can do and the volunteer (and information) network they have. You have to be 55 to obtain services, but you can lie about your age...you don't have to tell them you are only 39 (winking, cuz I know your birthdate)! Then I would contact charities, such as the Cancer Society or Salvation Army; local churches; local hospitals that have volunteers, etc.

Let us know how you make it, and maybe we can come up with other ideas if these don't work out.

I'm not sure setting up a public facebook account...telling the public you are at home and very sick is the best idea. If you are sure to set up the page as private, I guess it couldnt' hurt. But, I think most of your helpers (elderly people who are retired) may not have facebook pages anyway.

Unless you have a very close relative who can take off weeks to be with you, I don't think you are going to be able to coordinate volunteers to always be with you. People just don't have the time. I have a good friend on bedrest for a pregnancy, and to even get people over there everyday for a couple hours is hard. You probably need to come up with a different solution if you have to have someone there with you constantly.. I would think you may have to hire a nurse, or helper of some sort. Good luck.
