Susan, that sounds so scary. This day and age, you just never snow what some of these people are capable of doing in anger. I think you did right by just going about your business and trying to tune her out. Dottie

I'm glad the employees had her, goodness knows what she would have done had she followed you out to the parking lot. I would not want someone like that to know where I live.

Yeah, she was really pushing for a reaction. I just refuse to play into the hands of someone like that. I was mostly listening to see if she was running up to me, or keying my car when we were in the parking lot. Then when i saw her standing there staring at me in the store, and being verbal instead of going about her business, I knew she was really trying to get drama going. She was just in a mood and if it wasn't about a parking spot it would have been about the way someone looked at her or something. Oh well, no harm done in the end.

Susan there is a particular Walmart here that DH & I won't even go in! We have had similar encounters in the store with some very strange people. I won't mention which location but it seems to get them all!
You did the right thing in just letting her spew. Any reaction from you would just have escalated the drama.

I had a similar experience in a supermarket lot. It was a young man, and I had my turn signal on.
He got out of his car, and started pounding on my hood. I locked my doors, rolled up the window and picked up my cell phone and showed it to him.
Then dialed 911.

Police station was only around the corner...and the officer took care of him - took his name and license, talked him down and warned him to stay away from me and my car.

Love my cell phone.

That's happened to me a couple of times-got to a parking spot before someone else and then got yelled at. Once I was in a store and there was no-one at the register but a woman nearby touching items on a shelf. I thought she was looking at the merchandise and thinking about buying. I stepped to the cashier and began my transcation. Then the woman roared "I was next!" I backed off, a little scared, and said, "Then you go ahead." She said "No, you've only got one item" and left me alone. I was more than a little bit frightened. You never know when someone might attack you.

I'm glad she was all talk and no action, Susan. Man, life's too short to get all upset like that over a parking space.

I get really annoyed at people who stop and wait for someone to load the baby and the groceries and then eventually back out because they want THAT spot, knowing that cars are stacking up behind them and causing a jam. And it's usually at a huge store, where they're going to be walking a half-mile in there anyway... geez, just park it anywhere and hoof it in!

Something like this confrontation happened to me in Penney's. I think there are nut cases everywhere and you just have to know when to keep quiet (which is most of the time). Penney's had their nice $14.99 t-shirts on sale for $5.99 and I picked up four of them and was waiting to be checked out. I wasn't looking at anything, but just standing there thinking if those were the colors I wanted. A young man was going to ring my items up and I was waiting. A girl was on the other side working and she looked over and said, "You should have gotten one of the girls from the floor to do that." She was talking to a young man over to my right that I hadn't even paid any attention to. I glanced over when she talked to him....just a glance and I was back to thinking about the t-shirts...never thought a thing about it. He said, loudly, "You looked." (in a very nasty way) I just glance over to see who she was talking to and looked back. I didn't say anything because I couldn't imagine that he was talking to me. What he was doing was dressing a female mannequin...I hadn't even looked to see what he was doing. I didn't say anything and he slammed the mannequin on the counter and said, "DO YOU LIKE IT?" Again, I said nothing and he again slammed it down and said even louder, "DO YOU LIKE IT?" I shrugged and said, "It's all right, I guess." The kid who was going to ring my purchases up just kept his head down and wouldn't look at this other guy...hmmmmm, I wonder how long he will have that job. I have a feeling if I had said anything more he would have done even more than he did....there are weirdos everywhere and there seem to be more any more than there used to be.

What is wrong with some people??? That's why I try to park further away from the store. Plus I get my exercise.

Still, it's upsetting.

Flamingo, sometimes the walk is not that far. I was behind a guy last week. He stopped to let a car back out and get their spot, I was behind him and the cars started piling up behind me. And get this. The spot next to the car backing out was filled but the one next to it was empty. He could have pulled into that one and only been one car away. Go figure.

this is just one of the reasons i don't shop there. to me, the few times i have been in a wal-mart, the store is just full of people like that. we do sometimes grocery shop at a Wal-Mart Neighborhood MarketPlace which is just food and much smaller. every single time we are there DH & i tell each other when he's done w/his master's degree we will pay someone to do these errands LOL. even that smaller store is full of rude horrible people ~ liz

This wasn't a "Wal-Mart" incident...it was a parking lot incident.

as to "people like that" in Wal-Mart stores...they're your neighbors, not mine.

It's so wise to simply not respond in any way to this kind of person.

We were stationed at a base which had a terrible incident happen in the Commissary (food store) parking lot. A woman pulled into a parking spot which evidently was wanted by a man. I don't remember if she scooted ahead of him or not.

He took a baseball bat and walked up to her and beat the holy heck out of her - it was simply terrible, she ended up with brain damage.

People who flip the finger when driving can end up getting shot by the person they are flipping off.

I think it's best to not react at ALL in public these days.

However, my husband and I will make the most extrodinary of comments to each other, very quietly of course ;)

The world has become a place filled with very violent and angry people - you can never anticipate who you might set off and how far they might instantly go to retaliate.

I'm glad this went no further than her constant venting, I believe you were very wise in your non- reaction to her behavior. She was really pushing you and wishing for the confrontation to begin.
