BLTs......what's your favorite version?

BLTs are a personal thing, I've discovered, for some people. I like them lots of ways so it's easier for me to just say what I don't like. No Mieacle Whip or white bread, thanks. Toast the bread and add mayo on both pieces, not too much.

I don't think that I even have a favorite, all time version! I like a flavorful bread, not too thickly cut, a high quality bacon, fresh garden tomatoes, crispy lettuce...the greenest leaves if iceberg.

What do you hanker for in a BLT?

REALLY good on an oven toasted cibatta roll! Fresh from the garden tomatoes make any sandwich better! :)
Today for lunch I made blt wraps, those are tasty too!

I like BLT's just bacon, lettuce and tomato on toast, with a little mayo. But I like them even better as a Clubhouse with 3 slices of toast and turkey added to the mix. Yum! Now I want a sandwich.

Nothing compact about 'Grosso' - in fact, it is a larger growing hybrid and is often used as a hedging plant. And won't be as hardy for you as any of the English lavenders (Lavandula angustifolia). Some of the best dwarf/compact lavenders are some of the oldest selections - 'Hidcote' and 'Munstead'. Other good choices are 'Blue Cushion', 'Twickle Purple', 'Folgate' and 'Sachet'.

Keep searching! By the middle to end of summer, lots of bulb companies will have their websites updated with new listings of bulbs... and the Fall 2008 catalogs will be available! If you Google "fall bulbs" or "amaryllis" or "hippeastrum", or any key word combination related to indoor forcing bulbs or bulbs for indoor forcing, you should get lots of results with tons of links to follow! Companies that sell Tulips and Daffodils often sell Hippeastrum bulbs, as well. I searched last fall for online catalogs and retail sellers of hippeastrum, and I found lots of links to stores and places to order from! One of my favorite places is Royal Colors... John Scheeper's is another good bulb company... Brent & Becky's, Blooming Bulb, Dutch Gardens, Nature Hills, Garden Import, and the list goes on... where is your favorite statuary place?

My absolutely favorite place is Fraziers Concrete in Hempstead, TX not far from Antique Rose Emporium. They have acres and acres of concrete statuary and are wonderful people to deal with. Here's my little story about them that I copied from a 2010 post: Frazier's is truly an AMAZING place, in more ways than one!!! Amazing in the sheer number beautiful designs in concrete in their acres of displays and amazing in their dedication to customer satisfaction. Several years ago my friend Barbara and I went there and purchased quite a few items. As they were loading my minivan the tires began to look overloaded. I didn't think they could handle the last thing to be loaded -- a huge angel bird bath my friend bought. Barbara said she'd come back for it in her husbands pick-up truck. Well, it was TWO years before we were able to get back with the truck. In the meantime she had lost her receipt, but lo and behold -- they still had her bird bath! It was sitting in the the hold section with a big sign on it that simply said "Woman from San Antonio." ... :-)

What a great post, the stories are all so touching & humanitarian. Anything I was going to say about my favourite things in my yard would just sound so trivial & shallow in comparison. But I will share anyways. I do not have a fantastic landscape view, wildlife is limited, I have a subdivision lot to work with. Some of my neighbours think I spend an unhealthy amount of time gardening & that makes me odd? But I have spent the last 7 years with my husband, my son & 4 dogs in 2 different yards & I realize that I'm very grateful & fortunate to have that. We do spend a lot of time in our yard as a family. And slowly each year we add to it; for our enjoyment. Last year my husband spent a number of weekends building me a shed & veggie garden. It turned out great, but it was a lot of work for him after putting in 60 hour work weeks. So I really appreciate his weekend sacrifices to make me happy. And we all enjoy the veggie patch, it's great for little ones to learn about food. Even my husband is getting into gardening. He now wants to watch Monty Don & other gardening shows with me instead of watching a banal sitcom. It has really become something we are bonding over. We are planning on doing some garden tours together this summer. That would not have happened a couple years ago. It is just so nice to share that enthusiasm with someone else. The more he gets into gardening the easier it is to convince him to spend money on plants and the landscaping. So that's a win-win for me! He has also surprised me a few times by picking up potted roses or garden items that he knows I would like. To others that would seem so unromantic, but a handy garden tool or flower is right up my alley. And it proves he is listening to me! As for actual favourite things in the yard there are a few. We have a glacier boulder in our front yard. That was the reason I got him to go to the open house in the first place. We lived in the area & my husband said he wished we had a big rock on our lawn when we would go for walks and see other landscaped yards. So when this house went on the market, I told him about it and said it has the biggest rock in the whole neighbourhood. We bought it at the open house & it all started because of a big rock. And it's fun for the kids to play on too! I also have a couple plants that were from family. They are not anything fancy, but one is a plantain lily that my grandfather grew, than my mom has a chunk of it & now I have a chunk of the one my mom has. So it's special to me.

Having been raised on white bread, that is what became out habit. When I learned about other breads, I switched.

One thing is constant (as far as I am concerned) is that the bread must be toasted. No other way to have a BLT.

My BLT is made on a potato bread dinner roll.
Lightly spread with Hellman's mayo
A leaf of green letttuce on each side, on top of the lettuce, then a slice of tomato on each side, and then 2 pieces of cooked Oscar Meyer center-cut bacon in the middle.

I like my blt with turkey bacon, romaine lettuce without the rib, ripe tomato slices, mayo, miracle whip, or avocado, and I prefer toasted sourdough, but I also like toasted white bread.

I love my BLTs with melted Velveeta on one of the pieces of wheat bread and plenty of Hellemans Lite Mayo Wrights Thick Sliced Smoked Bacon, I prefer Romaine lettuce big homegrown tomato (prefer beefsteak, & cut out of the middle)and salt & pepper. oh and a bib to catch the tomato juice & mayo mix...lol

Exactly what the initials imply. B + L + T. White toast, sometimes a triple decker. 4-5 slabs of bacon. Mayo. Breakfast or brunch too.

I'm a big Duke's fan, too...or Blue Plate. Last year, I added a little wasabi to the mayo and it was a nice, spicy complement.

Ooh, BLTs make a great breakfast! What about with a fried egg in the middle?

I'll be picking my first Brandywine today! I've been eyeing it for days.

Well, my favorite way is white bread toasted, Miracle Whip and lettuce and home grown tomatoes. The bacon can be thick or thin. I think mayo and Miracle Whip are two different things and I like them both.

All this talk about BLTs made me crave one for breakfast!!!! So I fixed myself one...well Tony fried the bacon. Although we had Romaine in the fridge, I chose not to have that much cold this early in the A.M. the mayo was enough. It sure was good

White bread toasted and buttered, bacon crisp...no fat, leaf lettuce, slice of homegrown tomato and Hellman's mayo.

Toasted whole wheat bread, heirloom tomatoes, bibb or romaine lettuce, and mayo. I also like to add avocado sometimes.
