BLTs......what's your favorite version?

BLTs are a personal thing, I've discovered, for some people. I like them lots of ways so it's easier for me to just say what I don't like. No Mieacle Whip or white bread, thanks. Toast the bread and add mayo on both pieces, not too much.

I don't think that I even have a favorite, all time version! I like a flavorful bread, not too thickly cut, a high quality bacon, fresh garden tomatoes, crispy lettuce...the greenest leaves if iceberg.

What do you hanker for in a BLT?

REALLY good on an oven toasted cibatta roll! Fresh from the garden tomatoes make any sandwich better! :)
Today for lunch I made blt wraps, those are tasty too!

I like BLT's just bacon, lettuce and tomato on toast, with a little mayo. But I like them even better as a Clubhouse with 3 slices of toast and turkey added to the mix. Yum! Now I want a sandwich.

Keep searching! By the middle to end of summer, lots of bulb companies will have their websites updated with new listings of bulbs... and the Fall 2008 catalogs will be available! If you Google "fall bulbs" or "amaryllis" or "hippeastrum", or any key word combination related to indoor forcing bulbs or bulbs for indoor forcing, you should get lots of results with tons of links to follow! Companies that sell Tulips and Daffodils often sell Hippeastrum bulbs, as well. I searched last fall for online catalogs and retail sellers of hippeastrum, and I found lots of links to stores and places to order from! One of my favorite places is Royal Colors... John Scheeper's is another good bulb company... Brent & Becky's, Blooming Bulb, Dutch Gardens, Nature Hills, Garden Import, and the list goes on... A Google search for amaryllis bulbs should net a good amount of places to begin looking! Here is a link that might be useful: Royal Colors

CALICO POTATO SALAD 1 1/2 lb red potatoes -- cubed 1 cup celery -- sliced 4 stalks of green onions -- chopped 1/4 cup red onion  sliced 1 Cucumber Thinly - sliced skin on 1-2 egg -- hard-boiled/chopped 1 jar of Pimentos 2 tbsp fresh dill- chopped 1/4 cup mayonnaise (more if desired) 2 tbsp mustard to taste 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tbsp olive oil 1/2 tbsp cider vinegar (to 1 tbsp) 1 tsp fresh parsley -- chopped 1/4 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp celery seed Add potatoes to a stockpot, cover with water and boil until tender. Drain and place in a serving bowl with next 5 ingredients; set aside. Blend together remaining ingredients, and toss with potatoes. I usually save the egg yoke to crumble over the top w/Parsley and Sprinkle Paprika over top before Serving. I put all the Cucumber Slices around the sides of the bowl so that they show. I serve it in a clear glass bowl, because it is so pretty and colorful. Peeps think your a Pro! LOL! IÂve been making this for 40 years. I change it everytime. But, this is the original. Sometimes I add sliced Red Radishs in place of Cucumber. I'm pretty sure I got it from a 1968 Betty Crocker Cookbook. Gayle

What is your favorite game?

Lyban, the kids I work with vary a lot in how much frustration tolerance they have and how much complexity they enjoy. Simple games like Candyland and Hi Ho Cherry-O are often popular, but because I cannot control how long they take to end, I don't often use them. My younger clients often enjoy matching/memory games like this one, which I use daily. For kids with short attention spans or low frustration tolerance, I use only half the pairs, to make it easier for them to succeed the first few times we play: I also use Jenga a lot with kids of all ages, if the child can tolerate the crashing sound when the tower falls; some kids cannot and that's what we work on but as a grandparent you're better off just playing for fun! "Spot It" is another of my most popular games, and they have a Junior version for younger kids: The regular game is a big hit with my clients all the way up to college age. Actually, that's true for almost all my games-- even surly teenagers love "little kid games". Hope this helps and sorry for the hijack and also that I don't know how to make smaller photos when I steal them from Amazon.

Good point! I was thinking of a window seat, but then the patio door opens up too close to it I think, so then I thought to extend the window down to span floor to ceiling, and have that corner with a bee expanded patio door and floor to ceiling windows. Still might be a bit awkward though...I wondered if the round table and the island made things too crowded. I guess another option would be to raise up those windows and put base cabinets below—couldn’t expand the whole space, but it could go at least the same length of the island?

Having been raised on white bread, that is what became out habit. When I learned about other breads, I switched.

One thing is constant (as far as I am concerned) is that the bread must be toasted. No other way to have a BLT.

The tomatoes must be home grown. Makes all the difference in the world.

My BLT is made on a potato bread dinner roll.
Lightly spread with Hellman's mayo
A leaf of green letttuce on each side, on top of the lettuce, then a slice of tomato on each side, and then 2 pieces of cooked Oscar Meyer center-cut bacon in the middle.

I like my blt with turkey bacon, romaine lettuce without the rib, ripe tomato slices, mayo, miracle whip, or avocado, and I prefer toasted sourdough, but I also like toasted white bread.

Exactly what the initials imply. B + L + T. White toast, sometimes a triple decker. 4-5 slabs of bacon. Mayo. Breakfast or brunch too.

I'm a big Duke's fan, too...or Blue Plate. Last year, I added a little wasabi to the mayo and it was a nice, spicy complement.

Ooh, BLTs make a great breakfast! What about with a fried egg in the middle?

I'll be picking my first Brandywine today! I've been eyeing it for days.

Well, my favorite way is white bread toasted, Miracle Whip and lettuce and home grown tomatoes. The bacon can be thick or thin. I think mayo and Miracle Whip are two different things and I like them both.

All this talk about BLTs made me crave one for breakfast!!!! So I fixed myself one...well Tony fried the bacon. Although we had Romaine in the fridge, I chose not to have that much cold this early in the A.M. the mayo was enough. It sure was good

Toasted whole wheat bread, heirloom tomatoes, bibb or romaine lettuce, and mayo. I also like to add avocado sometimes.
