REALLY!?!?!? I've never had one, but I'm happy it has helped you. Dental pain is so bad! You must be tired.

Oh no....I meant a month piecing it, not the entire process. When you get to the quilting or tying part, that's something else again. I wish I could say I don't have a desire to do a great number of quilts, but I'd be lying. I want to do almost every one I see and this forum isn't much more than enabling me. LOL. I am learning patience, and it's coooooooooooooooming slowly. I know in my heart that if I had taken up quilting just ten years ago, it would not have stuck. I happened on it through serendipity at the exact moment of my life were I make room in my day, no matter how busy, to go into my little world and work on my quilts. I can't NOT do something with something I don't like. I have to do SOMETHING with it, so the effort wasn't wasted, and that something should not be throwing good money after bad, by obliging myself months more of distasteful work. I do love this quilt, sigh, and that's the problem, it was just that for once, I listened to my little voice who said that I wasn't likely going to finish it. The pillowslips ....well I can see the end of the tunnel almost from the beginning and I'll enjoy them. I just wondered if other people got epiphanies about a quilt and what makes them decide it isn't for them.

Kat...I've been putting off having two root canal's done...I've had temp. crowns on these teeth for two years. I'm scared to have them done...and I'm afraid my pocket is a little empty too... I know I'm going to have to have them done but I just keep putting them off. patti

I've had several and its nothing to fear. There's some discomfort during the numbing process with the needle, but after it takes effect, you don't feel any pain. It is a 2 step process. For the first session, the root of the tooth is cleaned out and a temporary plug installed. An impression may be taken if a restorative crown is needed. The dentist sent me home with a prescription for a narcotic pain killer in case I needed it. However, in my case, the area stayed numb for a couple of hours and after that, I did not need any more pain management. In a week or two after the dentist is sure there is no infection in the tooth, he'll remove part of the temporary plug and install the permanent filling. If a crown is to be fitted, he may install a post on which to secure the crown. In many cases, the second session can be done without numbing since there will be no nerves in the tooth. The cost varies considerable depending on what is needed. The lowest cost is for a simple root canal and no work on the tooth, The next level up is if a crown has to be installed and the metal chosen for it (gold alloy is the most expensive). The 3rd cost level is when a ceramic crown (with post) is installed. I recently had this type since the entire top of my tooth broke off at the gum line. I mentioned that it was a 2 step process, but it can be more if the bone socket is infected around the tooth. The dentist will take measures to insure the infection is cleared up before proceeding (after the first step). This can take 2 to 3 weeks and the tooth is opened each time, inspected, and packed with medicine until the infection is gone.

HU--thank you for that comment. I am taking generic ibuprofen (Walgreens). I wonder how the generics could be ok but "Advil" not OK. Do you know? The few times I've taken Tylenol over the years, I didn't find it very effective against pain, so that's why I started with the ibuprofen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDITED to add: Saw the endodontist. He x-rayed and looked at the tooth and said it looks OK, the pain is what could be expected but that I was under-medicating. He gave me a prescription for 800 mg ibuprofen and Tylenol with codeine for nighttime sleeping. I'm relieved, mentally. The meds will help no doubt.

Been there, done that. Didn't even fill the rx for the hydrocodone on the way home since I felt much better.

They just put fear in my heart, because I've known so many people that had complications from root canal. I've only heard 1 or 2 people say they had no problems, that all went well. I've recently had 2 pulled and was so glad to get rid of them.

I've had some root canals and never had any problems with them. Once you've lost a tooth or two, you realize a root caneal is the much better way to go. It's not cheap to get either a bridge or an implant to replace a missing tooth and you can only do without so many.

Anyway, I'm glad it went well and you feel better!

:) here's another who had absolutely no trouble
with root canals - and I have had 3. Vannie - you
will have to "up" your count of positives.

It is so much better than losing a tooth. Keep every
last one you possibily can.

Glad it went well for you, Kat! I have had 2 of them, the one I had several years ago went just fine, no problem at all. The one I had a couple of months ago was very painful, the dentist had to remove 4 roots and he told me I was going to suffer. He was so right!

I just got back from the dentist this morning and am so RELIEVED nothing was amiss. I' a gagger, so even a cleaning is very stressful. I'm glad it's over for you, Kat!
