When you have a great great day and it ends with a smile and good thoughts!

That's exactly what my day was today.

Quality time with GS!

And his mother, my former DIL, called me after I dropped him off, to tell me what a great day he had.

How good is that!

So glad you had such a good day. I like hearing happy news. Lucky you to have your GS so close you get to spend time with him and I bet he can hardly wait to go on that cruise. Nice of your former DIL to give you a call and tell you what a great day he had. That was so thoughtful of her. Sometime just a little act of kindness can mean so much to the recipient and the person doing it has no idea just how meaningful it is!

Got another estimate - this one for American Standard equipment. They wanted $6500 for the 13 SEER, and $7400 for the 14 SEER, installed. This estimate was to replace main unit only, no electrical panel replacement, no thermostat, just the box. The first estimate did include measuring output at each register and damping/ adjusting to make them all output equally. (the house is a long (102') Ranch, and the u nit is on one end. There is s noticeable drop-off on the far end...) This second estimate did not include that. Both were for R410 systems. I do not have gas available, and am not interested in putting in a tank. I am in TN, and our electric rates are about as low as it gets in the US - under $.08 per KW... The first estimate was from a big, very professional company that has been in business for many years and have offices all over the country. The second was a small local shop that, after talking to, I do not have much confidence in. The first was very thoroughly written out in detail, the second, just a phone call with "... it'll be about $6500 - $7400, depending on which model you want...", despite asking specifically for a written quote. While still on the phone, the second guy wanted to know when he could come over and get started. What advantage does the variable speed blower give me? What is the difference between the XL13 and the XB13?

flwrs_n_co, those drips aren't lacquer, they're water. They wet the sink prior to taking the picture so you can get a better idea what it will look like when it is lacquered. Same thing you do to stone to mimic what it would look like enhanced. I know because I went through this process with my sink. They do the patina on the apron, then wet it down, take a picture and let you decide if you like it before they apply the lacquer.

You've got it right, Glenda. It just doesn't get any better than that. I've had a good day so far. Got the hair and nails done. I'm attending a retirement dinner tonight which will be lovely, I'm sure, but difficult in some ways. There are 4 of us retiring.

may_flowers and sprtphntc - I seldom buy either. I have been buying and looking at a few things lately. Both my mother and my MIL downsized this year and I got a few small pottery pieces from each of them. I wanted to display them but none of them really went together and so I was looking for other pieces to set them off so I was prowling consignment stores and antique stores. So much of it was pretty but not suitable, but when a piece "spoke" to me and I thought "yes, you will set off and add to my enjoyment of my great-grandmothers water pitcher", that's when I bought something. palimpset - exactly. I agree with you. I too prowl real estate listings (used to frighten my DH) but I don't want a new house. Appreciating things does not mean having to own them. mudhouse - oh I really like that imagery of "stocking the visual library in our minds". I'm going to use that line on my DH the next time a situation arises. Then watch him try to figure what I'm saying - he won't get it, poor guy. romy718 - Perhaps like your daughter, I just want to convey my joy in seeing something that I think is, for me, pretty. I don't expect the person that I'm with to agree with me because I do know that we all have different tastes and different definitions as to what is visually pleasing. I guess I just want them to see my joy in seeing something that I find to be pretty and I want to share that - not to buy but just to stop, take a minute and enjoy looking.. Oh, and to be clear that doesn't actually happen all that often. And kevinmark - you're right ,not every gorgeous accessory is meant to buy. I suspect that if one did that the joy of owning pretty things that one found joy in would somehow be diminished over time. For me anyway.

Glenda, I'm glad you had a great day with GS. But I have to take issue with your comment that things can't be much better. Your life is about to take a big turn for the better real soon--when you and PJR board that ship for Alaska! I'm so happy for both of you, and I know it will be fantastic. Of course, we expect pictures! Hugs to you both!

Yeah! Life is good, isn't it? Enjoy your cruise. We went on the Princess cruise/land tour 5 yr. ago for our 25th. So very beautiful.

I ate/drank it all and was luvin' you bad until I figured out that the road kill was some kind of fake Alabama hoax! At fist I thought it was freeze dried possum but it soon became obvious that you had slipped me some kind of spoof of a roadside concoction completely devoid of any protein whatsoever!!!
You just DON'T DO GEORGIA boys that way!! Still, the RC and moonpie was good.

THE KISS!! I remember seeing THAT! How long ago was that?

Glenda...are you wanting Liz to post the pic? She doesn't get around these parts much anymore, but I *think* I may have it somewhere. One of our sweet (now deceased) members emailed it to me. I'd have to do some searching on my other computer..but I might can find it if you want to "re-live the memory"!!!!
