How's your weather?

Been 95 here in wv today, sooo humid. Thunderstorm coming really dark. Hope the electric and A/C doesn't go off!! How's the Ohio people, any storms?

It's 67F here in western Washington and overcast, supposed to rain.

The heat everywhere else sounds awful.

It has been in the mid to high 80's here during the day....which is hot. My garden loves it!
The nights cool down to the mid 50's, fortunately.

Scorching hot every day, no rain at all in recent weeks. I fear for the butterflies that will come through this fall if this continues. We've gotten butterflies coming through lately that would continuously go from flower to flower for hours like they hadn't seen much to nectar from for a time. I can keep most plants blooming in the yard, but on the property and along the roads everything is shutting down pretty much and milkweeds have been going entirely dormant. Fortunately, some parts of Texas aren't doing better than we are. I'm raising a few GST cats and some Spicebush cats that turned up on my plants. I've released half a dozen BSTs lately and have 4 more chrysalises. So at least the swallowtails are back! But the male and female Queen that were in the garden for a few days apparently left no eggs on the milkweeds. So sad about that!

Spent Friday night with my two SILs, dinner (on them) at a nice Italian restaurant. We exchanged gifts. Saturday I put up our little (table-top) pre-lighted Christmas tree. I had a minor accident getting it down from the attic. The metal tree base fell and knocked me on the cheek, under my eye. So I sat with ice on it for a half hour. I recovered enough to finish assembling and decorating the tree. Made hero sandwiches for dinner for me and hubby. We got some snow (Long Island NY)- maybe 4 inches. . I shovelled twice so not much accumulated this morning (Sunday). Today I'll finish my Christmas cards and do some gift-wrapping. Not a lot of work left for me. I do enjoy December but I must pace myself, not do too much. This year I am NOT baking cookies. Too much work and I don't need to eat so much sweets and desserts.

Brad, it never fails to surprise me how different the weather is on each side of the world. I've heard the "experts" throw around things about El Niño for us this year, which would explain the warmer temperatures, but they're also suggesting that we may get more rainfall than average. It's a bit confusing. I think I'd like things a bit cooler here, want to swap? Sherry, so much snow! I didn't even realise it was winter for you yet. Or is it still Fall, and things have gotten over excited? Keep warm! Irisgal, your nights are surprisingly warm. Is that a nomality? MM is much prettier than the picture when its blooms are proper. It's in a shaded spot in my garden, so I can't comment on its colour-fastness or heat durability. Do you have problems with fade in your garden during summer?

Bart, I'm so sorry: that really is an awful feeling, and the heat just makes it worse. I hope you get rain, in good amounts, and soon. I know it's been miserable for you, and I suspect even worse since you live in town. Good luck to you! Seaside, the same to you: may rain soon come your way. About Mme. GS, I wonder whether our soil and conditions in general simply don't suit her. Mine has been in the garden for over a decade now, and she doesn't want to grow--unless she needs severe pruning which I'm not giving her. As I mentioned, roses growing close by are doing fine. About heat tolerance, I don't know how Malta is. I wouldn't call our heat all that severe compared with what I hear about in parts of California, for example, or the hotter parts of Europe (though I think our local area has gotten off lightly this year), so I don't think how a rose variety does here is indicative of its behavior in hot areas. It isn't a consideration I give much thought to: our climate is a relatively moderate one, and the temperature range seems to suit most roses. I'm more concerned about excessive sun and too open an aspect, including wind as well (trees! we need more trees!!); soil, and amount of water rose varieties need. Also susceptibility to cane girdler, which we have and which some roses simply can't deal with. Jackie, fog and coolness sound wonderful, and I hope you enjoyed them, though we've been fortunate. Your garden always sounds so beautiful and interesting. The "tempietto"--well, we'll see. It's rebar. Also it turned out considerably less elegantly functional than I had hoped. When I get the rose over it, if it stands up to winds and so on, which is an open question, I think it will be well enough. We need to get a bench in it. The black locust has been almost completely disposed of: still a few sawed-off branches on the ground to be chopped up and distributed. And the main trunk to be hauled away to a suitable spot. I hope DH and I together can manage it. I got most of the side branches sawed and lopped off the trunk, working from a ladder, then chopped up everything with the pruners, but the trunk, perhaps twelve feet long and almost a foot in diameter at the base, was stuck well up in a conifer that had a large rambler growing in it, and no way I could see to get a purchase on the trunk. I left the problem for later; DH employed some of his magic and got it down. How does he do it? He's a little guy in his upper eighties. Mr. Miracle. Anyway, the trunk is down, the conifer is free, 'Brenda Colvin' hasn't been destroyed. Life is good.

Eastern Ohio reporting in. It was in high 90s today. A fast moving storm just now getting ready to head on out. One county south of mine had tornado warnings. Over 100,000 people without power. I'd have liked to had more than the sprinkle of rain I got, but I didn't get anything severe for which I am very thankful. Temps have dropped over 20 degrees. Surely wish we could get the much needed rain without all the other to go with it.

101 here today and I'm hating every minute of it. I need to walk the dogs now because we couldn't at our usual time. It's 90 now. HATE summer!!!

Hot, hottie, hot, hot, hot -- and humid. Actually, we've had worse humidity than this, but it's still pretty heavy out there.

I participate in a program to save electricity during periods of high demand. My outside AC condenser gets a radio signal to turn off for about 15 minutes. The blower keeps working. I don't even notice it but I get a credit on my utility bill for it. I also get an email when there is going to be an "event" and I got one this afternoon.

Pretty darn warm upper 90's and low 100's... but thank goodness, the nights cool off to the low 70's.

We had a lot of wind this afternoon and then the rain came and now it has cooled off to the low 70's and it is nice to have gotten the rain we did get. Drove out and looked at the garden this evening after coming home from a Vacation Bible School program and things are really looking good. Picked a tomato again while out there. Green beans are starting to really bloom.

105 here today in central Missouri. Terrible. Our AC is set below 70, but it is 85 degrees inside with the unit running constantly... the AC just can't keep in this heat.

Carol's weather sounds perfect... even the 50 degree nights.

Georgia - official high yesterday was 106. At times, my car thermometer read as high as 113. When I got home last evening at almost 8, it was still 102 on my deck, in the shade...

Supposed to be even warmer today and tomorrow - oh, joy! Please pray for my 15-year old air conditioning system :)

We had a quick thundershower Friday morning, by the afternoon it was 89 or 90 and humid. We do have air conditioning in our home, so it's comfortable. Ssaturday it's still early but it looks cloudy out. Heat is predicted. Oh I'm in Long Island (Lawn Guyland) NY.

We had a horrible thunderstorm last night, and the power went out about 9:30. Fortunately, it came back on at 5:30 this morning. I was wondering where I was going to spend today, because I certainly would not stay here, with temps nearing 100.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the predicted thunderstorms today and tonight don't knock out the power again.

Hot (upper 80s) and humid here during the day; nights are cool so that is great.

At the present them is 78, but it will rise to 100 before the day is over. My weather watcher shows it is suppose to be triple digits here in Kansas until the 8th. I am staying cool, thank fully the AC does it's job without running all the time.

Y'all better come to Florida to cool off :-) Our high yesterday was 92, but the humidity was really low for a Florida summer day. Weather report calls for 93 tody and a low of 71. I had the windows open this morning for a while. I like to let the fresh air in whenever I can.

90 now and supposed to get to near 100. It was 101 yesterday. Not a drop of rain and we need it so bad. If we lose power we are toast as it will kill all my koi in my ponds like last year. There have already been nine people killed in the storms last night and much damage..

Anybody want some rain you can come here and take some of ours. I'm in PNW (Canadian side) and it is, yet again, pouring rain today. We broke rain records (higher than normal) and temp records (cooler than normal) and sunshine records (less than normal) for the month of June. July doesn't look any better so say the forecasters. My garden does not look happy.

Now granted, I don't want the high temps that some of you are suffering through, but some sunshine would be nice.

Over 100 evry day in NE Texas and no rain since I dont remember when
cool in the house.
