Bless your heart, I got that in the middle of Dec. I finally recovered in March or April, not sure. I am so sorry. Meds did nothing.

I don't have it now, but have had something similar. My niece had it not long ago, and the doctor prescribed an inhaler. She said that the coughing irritates the bronchial tubes, which get inflamed, which causes more coughing. The inhaler helps to soothe the inflammation.

Helped my niece in two days. Something you might consider.

i had a coughing/cold thing during jan-feb and kept being told it was allergies. i did get Tessalon pearls which helped me sleep w/o coughing alot thou i did find delsum worked almost as well & it's OTC. it just took time to get better and all of co-workers and dh ended up w/ it, it ran around 6 wks. ~ liz

You poor baby, I sympathize. A vaporizer helps me, so does vicks rubbed on my chest and drinking lots of water. I hope it clears up for you soon!

It is an old wives tale but it works. Rub Vicks salve on the bottom of your feet and put on socks. Works for me every time.

I had the same thing about 3 months ago, inhalers helped but it still took about 8 weeks to recover.

Get to the drugstore and get some Muscinex for coughing, it thins the mucus so you can expectorate it, that will eventually stop the cough. My dr. wouldn't give me an rx until I said I would go to another dr. Within 8 hours of the rx I started to respond so he was wrong and it's wasn't a virus but a bacterial infection.

I have heard about rubbing vicks on the bottom of the feet but I've never tried it. I'd try it if I were you. I've also heard that the Muscinex works. Maybe try that also.

I had a similar thing last month. It took more than two weeks to get rid of it. Very thick mucus developed in my lungs. One night, I awoke having trouble breathing. It casued my blood glucose to rise.

What worked best for me was taking an expectorant to loosen congestion and get a productive cough. In my way of thinking, a cough suppressant is not a good idea because it defeats moving the congestation and compounds the trouble. Once the lungs begin to clear, you will sleep due to exhaustion if nothing else.

This is the first full week I haven't had "the cough". I got my first cold since last spring 5 weeks ago - had very mild cold symptoms and thought that within a week or so it would be gone....then the cough started and wouldn't stop. I took cough syrup, hot drinks....still had the cough. My ribs were bruised from all the coughing. Finally eased up into the third week of the cough. This week I'm down to coughing only 2-3 times a day....almost gone, finally!

I'm another big fan of Mucinex. Their cough formula comes in the green package, if I'm not mistaken. (I rely on their blue package regular formula to help with my asthma, as was recommended by my doctor)

I've suffered from bronchitis/croup all my life. Many nights I've had to sit in the floor with my head on an ottoman just to get a little rest from the coughing. My doctor gave me codeine which did nothing. Finally, I had a Dr. give me Tussionex ex rel. It is a narcotic prescription. If you are really suffering that much call your dr. back and ask for that medicine. Take it from a long time sufferer..it is a miracle drug. I hope you feel better soon.

I often cough from my spring allergies when I develop post nasal drip. I feel mucus running down my throat and it starts me coughing. Losenges and hot liquids help. I don't think it's viral or bacterial. But I would definitely see a doctor if you have trouble sleeping or develop any pain. If you are wheezing when you breathe, it's serious. Wheezing may be pneumonia or fluids builiding up in your lungs. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you're feeling bad. I've been fighting pneumonia for a little over a week. Still coughing after almost completing my antibiotic, still have a few days left of a prednisone taper. I probably didn't help by taking Nyquil type cold gel caps at night so I could get some sleep. I was working and didn't want to be up all night coughing. That stuff needs to get out and it's better to clear your lungs by coughing.

My neighbor had that crud last year. She went to the Dr. TWICE, was given different prescriptions and nothing helped. Then she remembered a cough medicine her Mom gave them when they were kids. Only 1 pharmacy here stocks it. She got a bottle and was completely well within 2 days. My sister had the same crud the 1st week in Jan. and I mentioned it to her. She got a bottle..and didn't even have to go to the Dr. The lady at the Pharmacy said they sell a LOT of it!!

It's Father John's Cough Medicine. There's 2 different kinds and my neighbor and sister used the one with the expectorant!
